CHAPTER SIXTY-FIVE.
Jamal was surprised to meet Adele waiting for him in his private parking lot once the elevator opened up.
“Adele.” He called, frightened as he stepped out of the elevator and rushed over to Adele who was standing by one of his cars.
“Adele” he called yet again and she looked up at him with an anxious look in her eyes.
“Jamal. What happened between you and Danielle. The entire office was talking about how you had your guards throw her out of the building. What happened?” Adele asked worried and Jamal rolled his eyes as he groaned in frustration. He had thought something more important was bothering her.
“Oh… that.” Exclaimed, Jamal sarcastically. “That was nothing.”
“What do you mean nothing? One of my colleagues said she was wailing like a widow whose children had been seized by her in-laws. You… you can picture that scenario, right? You can picture how devastated that widow would be, right?”
“Adele, why the hell are we talking about a distressed widow right now?” Jamal chuckled and Adele only got more furious.
“We are not talking about a distressed widow, we are talking about Danielle. What did you do to her?”
“I did nothing to her!” Jamal defended himself and Adeke gave him a doubtful look.
“You did nothing to her and she was crying that much?”
“Adele.” Jamal called tiredly. “The thing is, Danielle has a habit of barging into my office and telling me things I am not interested in hearing. Today was the worst of all. She was screaming and causing a scene and that was the best I could do, call security to send her out.”
“But… Jamal.”
“I would love for us to continue this conversation in the car.” He said and looked at the driver he came with. “You are in charge.” He signaled Sean who went ahead to choose the car they were going to drive home in.
Once they were all strapped in, the driver kicked off and Adele turned to look at Jamal.
“Uh-huh!” She signaled and Jamal groaned in frustration.
“Can’t you just forget?”
“No, I wanna know what happened. What did you guys fight about?” She asked eagerly.
She knew she was somehow prying into his business, but she was too curious to keep her mouth shut. She wanted to know what they fought about. When it came to Danielle, she wanted to know everything that was going on especially as she had sworn that she was never going to let Jamal end up with her.
“Well…” Jamal’s voice interrupted her thoughts and she looked up at him.
“She isn’t very pleased with the fact that you have started working at the conglomerate. The other day, she came to confront me about it and I made her understand that I am trying to bring you close to me again because I want us to get back together. She didn’t take that well. She went ahead to call you all sorts of names and gave me many reasons which, according to her, are enough to make me like her and not you. I didn’t take any of that to heart. But today, she showed up again and did the same thing. She talked nonsense as usual, called you names, and asked me to choose her over you, which is just insane, because I only have eyes for you, Adele!” He said looking at her Adele and she struggled to bite back her smile so Jamal wouldn’t know she liked what he just said, but her cheeks sold her out by turning tomato red.
“Yes, Adele. I have eyes only for you and I want to be with you and you alone. No one else. She got even more furious when I told her that and started causing a scene. So, I had no choice but to send her out the hard way.” He explained and a wave of relief washed through Adele.
She was happy to hear that Jamal was not interested in Danielle.
“Well… the both of you are childhood friends.”
“No we are not!” He quickly cut her off. “Shannele and Danielle are childhood friends, not Danielle and I.” He corrected and Adele nodded with pursed lips.
“I see… but, she helped you a great deal. Without her help, you’d still be at your father’s mercy right now or he would have already flipped and ruined your reputation. Don’t you think you owe her?”
“I have paid my debt to Danielle.”
“How?” Adele asked and Jamal chuckled.
“You have no idea the huge sums of money I have been giving to her on a regular basis. Adele, you are my wife, but you haven’t spent even one quarter of the amount of the money that girl has taken from me. Because she had a means to help me, I gave her money without thinking. Her father’s company was at the brink of going bankrupt and the news was already going viral, but I brought his company back to its feet and used my connections to make the news die down. Danielle is a runway model for the most famous clothing lines in the world today because of me. She owes her career as a successful international model to me and there are other little things I don’t want to mention. I have rewarded that girl for everything she did to me. Right now, she’s asking me to be with her because she likes me and wants me for herself, not because she thinks I owe her, because she knows I don’t.” He explained and. Adele let out a heavy sigh.
The world of the rich was really complicated.
Parents seeing their children as threats and plotting to ruin their reputations. Girls using crooked means to lure men into marrying them. Mother-in-laws who could be called Monster-in-laws.
Everything was pretty messed up.
“If that’s what she is trying to do, then she’s really pathetic?”
“I’m glad there’s someone who finally understands me. There’s no way I’m ever going to end up with that girl. That will be over my dead body!” He was totally disgusted by Danielle especially after finding out that she had slept with his father.
There was no way he was ever going to sleep with a girl his father had been with. That was just absurd!
“I’m sick and tired of them all. My father, my mother and Danielle. They are giving me a pretty hard time.”
“You’ll overcome the challenge.” Adele casually told him and he looked at her in total disbelief.
“Is that all you have to say to me?” He asked annoyedly and Adele nodded.
“Yeah! What else do you want me to say?”
“Nothing much, just try to comfort me.”
“Comfort you?” She scoffed. “I’m going through almost the same thing, remember? I got harassed the other day by the same woman you just mentioned. I have a lot on my plate already!”
“About that! I totally forgot to confront Danielle about it. I’m going to meet up with her and give her a sound warning and for my mother, she’s never going to try anything like that again because grandma gave her the talk of the century. She has still not recovered from all what she just found out.”
“I can only imagine what Grandma told her.” Adele Said, laughing and Jamal joined her.
They both knew how fierce their grandmother could be with her words. She was the queen of putting people in their rightful place.
“Grandma said a lot, don’t you worry.”
“You know, sometimes I wonder why this is happening to us. It’s like the entire universe is against us being together.” Adele spoke in a sad tone and Jamal gave her a long stare before clearing his throat to talk.
“What I know is that nature has its way of setting things right at the right time. We will overcome and in the end, we will prevail. We will get through this.” He spoke with all confidence as he gently placed his hand on Adele’s and she smiled.
The rest of the ride went on in silence. They both buried themselves in their thoughts and only snapped out when Sean parked in the driveway of Adele’s apartment.
“We are home.” Jamal announced and Adele smiled. Her heart fluttered when she heard him refer to her apartment as home.
As she turned to open the door and step out, he held her hand back.
“Any problem?” She asked concerned as Jamal flashed her an apologetic look.
“Please don’t get too mad.” He pleaded with puppy eyes and Adele got confused.
“What do you mean?” She asked confused and he let go of her hand and opened his side of the door.
“Let’s go out first.” He said, stepping out of the car.
When Adele stepped out, she was shocked to see Sean taking boxes out of the car boot. Her mouth flew open in shock when she understood what was going on.
“What the hell, Jamal! What is the meaning of this?” Adele asked, petrified and Jamal carelessly shrugged his shoulders.
“Since you have refused to move in with me, I might as well just move in with you.”
