“Weiwei, are you sure you don’t need me to go back with you?”
Inside the airport of the capital city of France, Yan Shaoxuan held the hand of Shengsheng and stared at Xia Weiwei worryingly.
Xia Weiwei glanced at the boarding time before she took the hand of Shengsheng from Yan Shaoxuan. She then shook her head and replied to him, “No, thank you. You’re tied down by the project. I can take care of myself.”
With mixed feelings in his heart, Yan Shaoxuan fixed his gaze on Xia Weiwei and recalled that night when she gradually calmed down in his arms and revealed her unexpected encounter with Xia Zhengyan and the truth about her mother’s death she had overheard. Yan Shaoxuan was in shock as well because he had seen the happy life of the Xia Family when he was little. If it happened to him, he would find it hard to accept such a brutal truth as well, but on second thought, Xia Zhengyan conspired with Xia Mo to frame Xia Weiwei and surely, he could have killed his wife too.
What truly shocked him was that Xia Weiwei brought up the next day that she would return to her hometown to find evidence and avenge his mother’s misfortune. He could realte because he was very clear about how important her mother was to Xia Weiwei. However, the thought of her probably coming across Luo Chejue greatly discomposed him.
It took him four years to get her to accept him and he didn’t want to put anything on the line at the moment.
After the airport broadcast rang out in the terminal announcing her flight started boarding, Xia Weiwei stepped forward to hug Yan Shaoxuan and to comfort him. “Shaoxuan, let’s get married after this.”
Yan Shaoxuan wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her on the cheek. “Okay. I’ll meet you as soon as I finish work here. Wait for me.”
After over ten hours’ flight, they returned to Jincheng.
Xia Weiwei rented a fully furnished apartment for her and Shengsheng, where she held Shengsheng in her arms and sat dumbfoundedly on the sofa.
She had believed that she would never return to this city again. The minute she set foot on this piece of land, the past arose before her eyes so vividly that she could hardly breathe, especially knowing that man was here too.
Xia Weiwei did not plan to investigate her mother’s death on a large scale nor would she go near places where Luo Chejue might show up. She was not afraid to see him but she tried to avoid any possible risks for Shengsheng. If she could stand to be away from her, she would not bring Shengsheng with her at all.
Thinking of Xia Mo and Luo Chejue, she dared not imagine what they would do once they knew about Shengsheng. Xia Mo had killed her baby and her mother and Xia Weiwei would not let her get away with it, but for the sake of Shengsheng, she had to act with caution because she knew very well what the Luo Family was capable of.
Xia Weiwei intended to entrust a famous private detective with the case, and go to the hospital where her mother had stayed to make some inquiries. She still remembered the name and looks of her mother’s doctor, who should still work in that hospital if he was bribed by Xia Zhengyan back then. Perhaps he was even promoted to the dean of that hospital. The problem was how to make him talk…
“Mommy, don’t frown. It’ll make you less beautiful.”
Xia Weiwei held Shengsheng’s face and said affectionately: “Shengsheng, would you like to go out to play?” Shengsheng loved playing. She was daring and vivacious just like her when she was a child, but Shengsheng had been quiet along the way, docilely nesting in her arms. This child was so sensible and thoughtful that it made her heart-wrenching.
“No, I want to stay with mommy.”
“Shall we go and see your grandma?”
“Okay.”
Not until they arrived at the cemetery did Xia Weiwei remember that her tombstone seemed to be there too. When she was thinking how to explain it, from afar, only the tombstone of her mother was seen standing there.
Xia Weiwei took Shengsheng’s hand and approached.
“Shengsheng, this is your grandma.”
Shengsheng blankly put flowers in front of the tombstone when Xia Weiwei saw another bunch of flowers there. It looked like someone had come not long ago.
Who would it be? Without thinking much, she turned her gaze to the two pits by the side. They should have been the tombstones for her and her baby. Huh! She knew that it must be Luo Chejue who did such a thing although Yan Shaoxuan did not mention it to her.
She was wiped out so completely and resolutely that even her child was not spared!
