Xia Weiwei pushed open the bedroom door just to see Shengsheng staring at her with wide eyes, next to the shattered glass on the floor.
Xia Weiwei was relieved, and she didn’t know whether it was because she saw that her baby girl was fine, or because she had once again avoided Yan Shaoxuan’s marriage proposal, and she was feeling pretty bad.
The four-year-old girl kept her head down and meekly admitted her mistake, “Mommy, I’m sorry.”
Xia Weiwei smiled and tenderly held her most cherished baby into her arms. The fragrant softness of her skin made her heart settle down in an instant.
“It’s okay, as long as you are all right. Next time you need to be careful, ok?”
Shengsheng nodded heavily, her big, glazed eyes streaming with joy: “Mommy, I miss you so much!”
Upon hearing this, Xia Weiwei’s heart went totally soft. This time, she had been to Milan and the two had not seen each other for more than a month. After Shengsheng expressed her feelings, she quietly leaned into Xia Weiwei’s arms. The room was silent but filled with thick warmth of kinship.
Xia Weiwei kept stroking her daughter’s fine, soft hair and said warmly, “Shengsheng, why do you want to go on stage?”
“I want Daddy.”
Xia Weiwei’s hands froze for a while, and the figure of that person appeared in her mind, and the tip of her heart suddenly ached.
What followed was a fullness of guilt for her daughter. When Shengsheng was two years old, Xia Weiwei told her that Yan Shaoxuan was not her father, but did not tell her who her father was. Perhaps due to the influence of foreign circumstances, she was mentally precocious and had never mentioned it after that.
It wasn’t that Xia Weiwei hadn’t thought of telling the truth. She knew how thoughtful her daughter was and that she would definitely be able to understand, but those things were too cruel for a child.
Should I tell Shengsheng that her father sent someone to kill her mother? Or should I tell her that her existence was not longed for and that she was born because of hatred instead of love?
Four years ago, Xia Weiwei thought she would never have the chance to become a mother again, but the coming of Shengsheng gave her the last glimmer of hope in the ocean of despair.
She’d give up anything for Shengsheng!
So, she opened her mouth and said, “Shengsheng, do you like Daddy?” Her Daddy was Yan Shaoxuan.
Shengsheng didn’t hesitate to reply, her delicate voice crisp and loud: ”Sure! I love Mommy and Daddy the most!”
Xia Weiwei looked at her exquisite and flawless little face and was slightly out of her mind: “So, Mommy and Daddy will get married and Daddy will be Shengsheng’s only father, okay?”
As soon as the words were out, her heart was completely settled, and the last paucity of hesitation vanished when she heard her daughter’s excited but cautious words: “Really?”
After thinking it over, Xia Weiwei nodded Shengsheng’s nose and said, “Of course.”
Shengsheng let out a cheer and leaned back into Xia Weiwei’s arms. The little one thought to herself: she wanted to appear on TV on her birthday in a dress designed by her mother. Her father who had never seen her before might see it. She wanted her father, but she also wanted to see Mummy and Daddy happy!
Xia Weiwei hugged her downstairs and saw Yan Shaoxuan greet them for dinner naturally and normally as if nothing had happened,
His thoughtfulness had never changed.
Xia Weiwei watched him take Shengsheng from her arms, and Shengsheng nuzzled his neck affectionately: “Daddy, where are my favorite sweet and sour pork ribs?”
Yan Shaoxuan was full of affection: “How could Daddy forget my little Shengsheng’s favorite dish?”
This scene, wasn’t it the life that she wanted? With the smiling face of Shengsheng, it would be enough.
Xia Weiwei called out “Shaoxuan” with a determined look in her eyes.
“I’ll give you the answer after Shengsheng’s birthday.”
