The flight back to Paris overnight left Xia Weiwei with overwhelming fatigue. The aftereffects of her previous poor health condition made her gasp for air with her hands covering her chest at the door of her house. However, at the thought of seeing Shengsheng immediately, all her tiredness seemed to dissipate. She adjusted her breathing, smiled and opened the door.
The floral fragrance found its way into her nostrils. Her eyes were feasted with the red color. The floor was covered with a thick layer of petals, which filled the room with fragrance. Only a small path was paved amidst the flowers. At the end of the path stood Yan Shaoxuan with a bouquet of roses in his hand, whose figure dazzled in a gentle manner like silvery white moonlight. Behind him was a carefully arranged dining table illuminated by candlelight, romantic and warm.
The curl of Xia Weiwei’s lips froze for a second, then grew wider again. She walked towards him, a trace of unease rising in her heart.
With open arms, she gave him a gentle cuddle, “Shaoxuan, I’m back.”
Yan Shaoxuan looked at her tenderly and handed over the flowers in his hand, “Welcome home, this is to celebrate you getting the award.”
The two got along with each other with an extreme sense of ease, for they always gad a tacit mutual understanding.
Xia Weiwei took them with a smile, and the next moment the man in front of him was on one knee, holding up the diamond ring in one hand, which was dazzling. She suddenly froze, and his eyes full of love and admiration made her froze on the spot.
Yan Shaoxuan slowly opened his mouth and said the following words one by one with extreme seriousness: “Four years ago in the hospital, you said you were on the verge of death and did not want to be a liability to me. You asked me to take good care of your baby, in case anything undesirable happened. I also said I would wait.”
“Three years ago, in the claustrophobic room, you stubbornly resisted the anesthesia brought on by the tranquilizer, holding my hand and saying, word for word, that I could not marry a mentally disturbed wife, and I said I would wait.”
“Two years ago, in the studio, you said that your heart was dead, that the disability of both of your legs had made you unworthy of me, that you only wanted to devote the rest of your life to raising your baby, that you could not respond to my feelings, and asked me to find my own happiness, and I said that my happiness was you and I would wait.”
“Shengsheng is growing up gradually, and you have completely moved on and started over. Weiwei, please give me a chance to stay and take care of the both of you and spend the rest of our lives together, okay?”
Yan Shaoxuan’s words shocked Xia Weiwei to a great extent, instantly reminding her of all that he had done for her these years. Four years ago, that shot missed her heart, thanks to the prayers of her mother in heaven probably. But after all, she got wounded in the veins around. She was about to give up in the operating room. It was Shaoxuan who held her hand and told her that she was pregnant, which gave her the strength to carry on through the highly risky surgery.
She almost spent the full ten months of pregnancy in the hospital. After the surgery, she suffered a huge loss of vitality. The doctor said that this baby might exhaust all her strength and what awaited her might still be death. It was still Shaoxuan who carefully took care of her and got involved in every moment of the baby from conception to delivery. When she begged him to take care of the baby as she was in difficult labor, it was the first time that she had seen his tears. He begged her not to give up and, in the end, she survived.
However, she was bound by her past, and her fragile nerves were tossed and turned into intermittent mental disorders. In the secluded room with no daylight, it was again Shaoxuan who cuddled her in the explosion of her repeated paroxysms to prevent her from autotomy. But he himself was left with scars all over the body. His soothing voice became her salvation.
After she started to get back to normal, it was still Shaoxuan who accompanied her to recover little by little, massaged her legs day and night until she recovered, and it was also Shaoxuan who encouraged her to pick up her hobby and helped her achieve her present achievement.
Confronted with such deep affection, Xia Weiwei was speechless. If it weren’t for Shaoxuan these years, she would have died long ago. Deep down, she felt grateful to Shaoxuan for everything he had done for her, but also full of guilt because she knew she could not give him what he wanted. She turned him down three times but this time, she could no longer speak words of refusal.
Xia Weiwei was greatly touched and twitched her lips slightly, hesitating to say the word “okay”.
Out of the blue, the sound of something shattered came from upstairs, and Xia Weiwei’s turned ghastly pale instantly, with no mood to reply to him. She rushed upstairs, screaming “Shengsheng!”
