Albert’s eyes were instantaneously tainted with darkness when Regina’s subtle mood shifts fell on them.
Even though that guy treated you badly, you couldn’t let him go?
Regina drank her porridge quietly, an unexplained emotion swirling in her chest. Even after a night of rain, the humiliation she endured yesterday has not subsided in the least. All of the sarcastic glances were indelible in Regina’s heart.
Hannah could use such heinous methods on her simply because she disliked her.
Regina retained all of this in her heart. She would personally retrieve it one day.
Her cell phone, which she had left aside, rang while she was thinking about it.
It was an unfamiliar caller.
Regina smirked. Noah’s voice could be heard on the other end of the line after the phone was connected.
“You have a lot of courage, Regina. I wasn’t expecting you to walk away like that. Didn’t you want to be a part of the Martin family?”
Regina frowned tightly, and her tone was not polite.
“If I’m not mistaken, Noah, you shouldn’t be so kind as to talk to me about these irrelevant words!”
A few people laughed: “You are not a dumb woman. That is the only aspect of you that does not irritate me. Please work with me! You must despise Mandel after how he treated you yesterday. I can offer you anything you desire, much more than what that man provided you, as long as you work with me. You’ve been rejected by the entire Martin family, and only I can help you.”
“Cooperate with you?” Regina snarled, “You want to marry me, an outcast who has been in prison? Some people believe you are affectionate, while others believe you are madly in love with me!”
“Oh!” Noah scoffed, his tone becoming considerably harsher: “Don’t take yourself too seriously, Regina. Naturally, I have a goal in finding you to cooperate. If you ignore my offer, I will not simply stand by and watch the next time.”
Regina began to experience headaches after Noah hung up the phone. The troops of the Martin family were divided. She could see that, while Mandel was very well placed, not everything could be manipulated to master. What was the point of Noah being insane and foolish?
And there was no guarantee Noah wouldn’t do anything else to her now that she knew his actual face.
Regina’s heart sank with terror as he considered this. With Mandel’s unpredictable nature, it was hard for him not to see Noah’s actual face. After all, she could readily tell that he was acting insane.
If so, then there can only be one possibility.
That was Noah’s intention to let her know.
“What are you thinking, Regina? The porridge is starting to cool.”
Above her head, a soft voice called out. Regina froze as she noticed Albert give her a peeled apple.
Regina smiled and was about to say thank you when a cacophony of commotion outside the door interrupted her.
“Make that terrible doctor appear! I’ll ruin your hospital if he doesn’t come out.”
Regina asked with some curiosity, “What’s going on?”
Albert remained silent, smiling gently. He stood up and tucked her into bed.
“I’ll walk outside and see. Take some time to relax. As a doctor, I won’t let you out of the hospital in your current mental state!”
He hurriedly opened the door and exited after completing his speech. Regina set down the porridge bowl she was holding. She wasn’t sure if it was all in her head. She had noticed an unusual sharpness in Albert’s eyes just now.
Albert went out for a long time and never came back.
Regina was bored laying in the hospital bed in the afternoon, so she went for a walk.
As she approached the hospital hallway, she noticed crowds encircling the entire facility, and the gate was closed, prohibiting patients and their relatives from entering and leaving.
Banners hung everywhere, and the serious and clean medical structure was as boisterous as a city center.
“How is this going?”
Regina was perplexed when he saw a group of plainly clad persons besieging the hospital in an unusual manner.
Regina drew a young man who appeared to be quite young and quietly inquired as to what was going on here.
“It’s none of your business, little girl. You should return to your ward and stay there!” The young man was thoughtful. When he saw her alone, he was concerned that she would cause trouble by observing the fun: “Our family member was previously treated here, but it was clearly an infection that was misdiagnosed as an ulcer, delaying the optimal treatment time. Now that he is unconscious, we must locate this facility and hold them accountable till the end.”
Regina agreed cautiously. It was discovered to be a medical problem. Albert hasn’t shown up in a while, so he should be dealing with this.
Albert came in late at night with a lunch box. He placed the lunch box gently beside the bed, opened it deliberately, and a blast of aroma gushed. Regina, who had no appetite at first, became suddenly famished.
“Your mental state is quite poor. This is the soup that I prepared for you. Take it while it’s hot!”
Albert smiled warmly as he delicately passed the soup to Regina’s hands.
Regina felt a little self-conscious “You’re so preoccupied with work that you don’t have time to look after me. I’m perfectly fine. Because of your excellent medical expertise, I am now fully recovered.”
Regina wasn’t sure if it was her own illusion, but she plainly saw Albert’s eyes dim instantaneously.
“This is a therapeutic diet. As your doctor, I am naturally accountable for your health.” Albert’s lifeless eyes flared once more, and he insisted: “It’s all finished. It’s a waste of my time if you don’t drink it.”
Regina couldn’t help but take up the soup and drink it quietly.
The soup was delicious, and the smells of the herbs and food combined to make her feel much better.
It was merely that while holding a bowl, she had an uncanny recollection of Mandel. He was so callous and overbearing that he wore this apron and cooked for her in her cramped quarters.
The soup made by Mandel was also so delicious.
“Why are you crying, Regina?” Albert reached out two fingers to wipe her tears away. Regina responded awkwardly and ducked back “It’s fine. I was just thinking about my mother. I’m not sure how she’s doing now…”
They fell silent for a moment as she recalled her mother. Albert continued to talk after a time.
