Regina remained unable to control her emotions as long as she thought of Mandel lingering in Cecily’s room in the middle of the night. Her stern demeanor offers no opportunity for compromise: “I stated that you are uninterested in my affairs. I’m leaving right now.”
After speaking, Regina turned around and left.
“Don’t you want to know where your mother is?”
A chilly voice poured down from behind her like a basin of ice water from the depths of winter.
“What exactly did you say?” Regina abruptly turned around. Her brilliant eyes were fixated on the man before her.
“Don’t you want to know where your mother is?” Mandel responded word for word with a sneer.
“Tell me where my mum is.” Regina’s eyes brightened with delight. She gripped Mandel’s sleeves tightly with both hands. She didn’t realize how many tears she had poured for her mother. Regina was clutching Mandel as if it were a life-saving straw, refusing to let go.
His tall stature was abruptly obscured, and strong masculinity surged toward her with undeniable dominance. “Stay in the ancient house and give birth to my child with peace of mind, and your mother will be safe and sound,” Mandel stated eloquently and indifferently, lifting Regina’s chin.
“What happened to my mother? How is she doing now? She is still sick…”
Regina became enraged after hearing Mandel’s statements. How could such a shameless and domineering man exist in the world?
“Aren’t you afraid that your legitimate fiancée will be particularly disgusting when she sees me?”
“If Miss Green knew you had brought a pregnant woman to reside in the mansion, her expression would be quite thrilled!” said Regina, forcefully raising her head to meet Mandel’s stare.
Hearing this, Mandel’s expression really changed.
Regina’s eyes were pierced by the tiny alteration in his demeanor.
He did, indeed, care about Cecily. It was definitely a good ending, so why did she experience some heartbreak?
“I caution you not to play pranks,” Mandel’s piercing eyes fastened on her.
Regina’s head was tossed aside when he finished speaking.
“Don’t worry, your mum is now fine. Her condition has been stabilized. If you want to know where your mother is, just stay here and raise the baby.”
He left Regina a handsome back while also leaving highly menacing comments.
Regina’s chest puffed up and down, and her resentment nearly exploded, but Mandel left her no opportunity to flee or refute.
Yes! She was desperate to find out where her mother was. Her mother was her closest relative, even her only one. She could do anything as long as her mother was protected.
Regina took a long breath, trying to expel all the negative emotions in her chest, but she did have some good news regarding her mother. Mandel replied her mother was fine now, so it couldn’t be that horrible.
Since he wanted her to stay here, it seemed like that was the only way for now.
Regina returned to her room after contemplating this. She wasn’t terrified of them, but she didn’t want to be bothered by them.
Regina returned to her room to relax. It didn’t take long for the vibrant sounds outside to wake her up. Doris just carried the washed fruit to Regina’s chamber, just as she was wondering.
So, Regina inquired, “What occurred outside, Doris? Why is it so animated?”
“It’s not a big day, Miss Miller.” Doris set the fruit down and said with a smile, “It’s only a bit different. The Martins are having a family feast today.”
“Family feast?” Regina’s lips pursed. She didn’t give a hoot about the days that didn’t have anything to do with her.
She sat up, her untidy hair in one hand and the sheets in the other, and read a book.
However, not long after, the room’s door was opened from the outside.
Mrs. Martin wore a delicate teal gown with her hair carefully groomed. In high heels, she took a more majestic and elegant step.
“You are also the Miller family’s lady. What time is it, and you’re still dressed like this? Wouldn’t it be ridiculed if others saw that our family is a shelter and that anyone can come in?”
Regina smirked. When she saw Hannah condemning her so arrogantly, she felt a surge of rage flood up her spine.
“It has nothing to do with you what kind of person I am. I don’t need someone to pass judgment on myself.”
Regina responded nonchalantly. Her tone was light, and she didn’t even take her gaze away from the book she was holding.
Hannah took the book from her grasp and tossed it aside, sarcastically smiling: “Martin’s family is having a family dinner today. You will dress up later and walk downstairs because you already reside here. Don’t blame me for forgetting. If the Martins are humiliated, I have a plan to humiliate you.”
Hannah walked away with a frigid snort, leaving Regina with a melancholy expression.
What did Martin’s banquet have to do with her?
What about the Millers? Frank did not see her as his daughter from the day she was imprisoned and her mother was abandoned by him. She was merely an instrument to be used. Her defense of the Miller family’s honor was unnecessary.
In the old house hall.
Crowded, luxurious and extravagant.
Cecily grasped Hannah’s arm and went to welcome the visitors in the main hall. She appeared to be a mistress.
“Auntie, do you think Regina will come down tonight?” she inquired uncertainly in front of Hannah.
“Humph!” “Don’t worry, she’ll come down,” Hannah snorted softly as she set the mug down. A clever glimmer then flashed across her eyes.
When the banquet was about to start, Regina still sneaked into the hall.
In the end, she still couldn’t be ruthless and ignored the Miller family.
The Martins deserved to be considered a really aristocratic family. A family supper, on the other hand, was quite colorful and extravagant.
The persons who could appear in this hall were practically all the city’s most powerful people. The people in the entire hall controlled two-thirds of the city’s economy and trends, and this was not an exaggeration.
Regina donned a modest uniform that seemed out of place among the many beautiful and glittering luxury gowns. Uncomfortably, she tried to escape everyone’s gaze while looking for Hannah’s figure in the crowd.
