She turned away with a wound.
It was getting darker and darker, and the black clouds that had gathered began to fall, accompanied by pounding rain.
The street surrounding her seemed to hang in a veil of water as she stood on the brink of an empty road. Her vision grew hazy.
Her clothes stuck to her body, and the wound on her face hurt.
Regina, on the other hand, as if she hadn’t noticed, couldn’t help but recall the man’s icy demeanor.
The harsh remarks of the man seemed to reverberate in her ears.
Her nose gradually became sore, her eyes turned a little red, and unfathomable frustrations filled her heart.
Her heart was more like being beaten with a whip, leaving a shallow scar.
She was buried in thought, not realizing she had arrived in the center of the road.
A bright light flashed into her eyes, and a harsh trumpet boomed in her ears.
At the next moment.
Her entire body shot into the air like a white dove, and her wings torn and plummeting to the chilly tarmac.
“No… I can’t die!”
Regina longed to stand up, but her body felt depleted of vigor.
She was aching all over.
Her eyelids, on the other hand, were heavy.
All she saw was a pair of gleaming black leather shoes before collapsing into a warm embrace.
“Have you come to save me, Mandel?”
At the moment she closed her eyes.
Her thoughts couldn’t stop picturing a handsome, chilly face.
In the ward.
Regina opened her eyes slowly. Her nostrils were tinged with the odor of sterile water.
“How are you?”
A gentle voice sounded in her ears.
She cast a sidelong glance and noticed a man standing near the hospital bed. His gold-rimmed glasses framed his erect nose, and his brows were warm.
“Did you save my life?”
Regina took a few moments to look into the empty side.
It was only her and the man in the ward.
“Do you want to find a man named Mandel? When I saved you, I heard you yell his name…”
The man suddenly smiled.
Regina quickly rejected it before she could continue her sentence. “No, I have nothing to do with him,” she responded with a smile.
What was she thinking?
Mandel was the one who drove her out, and she was still hoping that the man would save her…
He couldn’t wait for her to walk away from him.
Regina’s eyes were bitter, and her heart throbbed slightly.
After seeing the feelings in Regina’s eyes, the man grimaced slightly but said nothing.
“Thank you so much. Regina is my name. I will compensate you for your generosity.”
Regina said gratefully.
“It’s all right, my name is Albert Thompson. This is my personal hospital. You can stay here for the time being, and the nurse will assist you in notifying your family to come over later.”
Albert appeared to be an 18th-century gentleman who made people feel at ease.
“Well, thank you.”
Regina did not object and was appreciative once more.
As for family, she had none except her mother.
Albert remained, and his thick black brows wrinkled. “Dr. Thompson, is there anything else?” she couldn’t help but ask.
“Do you realize you’re pregnant? It’s been more than a month.”
His voice was soft, but it hit Regina like a thunderclap.
“What did you say?”
Her pupils were slightly dilated, and her eyes were filled with disbelief.
“I discovered it while operating on you. Fortunately, the accident did not cause you to miscarry.”
Regina’s thoughts were blank. She could scarcely think and had just one thought.
She was pregnant with Mandel’s child…
She wasn’t in the best of moods for parenting. Her eyes were filled with fear and bewilderment.
“No, I can’t have this baby.”
Regina’s lips whitened and she mumbled.
She abruptly removed the covers. Regardless of her wounds, she took her hand and hammered up her abdomen, as if this would make the baby vanish.
She had hardly lifted her hand when a huge, warm hand gripped her wrist.
“Look at me.”
She couldn’t help but gaze up into those warm eyes when she heard a gentle voice in her ears.
“If you don’t want the baby, there are alternative options. Your body has not yet recovered. Therefore, you cannot be overly concerned.”
Albert had a cheerful expression on his face. As a doctor, he was looking after his patients.
But his heart seemed to be drawn emotionally by her as well.
“Can I not have this baby? He’s not going to be pleased…”
Her lips trembled slightly, and her voice trembled as well.
“It’s OK.”
Albert examined Regina’s slender shoulders. Even her shoulder blades were visible through the linen. His heart was bitter.
“If you want to abort the baby, you need at least wait for your body to recover so you can think about it.”
As a doctor, Albert delivered the only advise he could.
He left the ward after he saw that Regina’s mood had settled.
Regina gently smiled as she patted her abdomen.
She had thought about it.
If she has a child, she must dress her baby up and give him the best life possible.
“Hello, a person claiming to be a member of your family has arrived.”
A nurse said as she walked in, holding a record book.
A trace of doubt surfaced under Regina’s eyes.
The sound of stiletto heels suddenly appeared, moving closer and closer. Caroline was there.
“It’s a good thing you’re still alive. What a waste of my time purposefully coming over here.”
She was full of impatience.
“How did you get here?”
Regina looked at Caroline warily.
A bell rung unexpectedly.
Caroline gazed at the phone with a mix of trepidation and joy. She cautiously answered the phone.
“Hello, Mrs. Martin. What can I do for you?”
Regina was unable to hear the voice on the phone. She could see Caroline’s face becoming increasingly humiliated.
“Snapped.”
Caroline hung up the phone.
“Mrs. Martin just called to express her dissatisfaction with you. She claimed to have seen you brazenly seducing Mandel.”
Caroline nearly smashed the phone. Her eyes betrayed a strong desire to kill Regina.
“Examine yourself carefully. He is a nobleman, and you are a woman who has been imprisoned. What credentials do you have to be worthy of him? Even a common man would not want to marry a woman like you!”
Caroline insulted Regina with an acidic and rude tone.
Regina ignored her and closed her eyes.
“Did you hear me or not?”
Caroline was irritated. The Miller family’s economic problem was delayed as a result of Regina’s departure.
The longer it took, the more dangerous the Moore family got.
“What else do you expect me to think of you when you sell me to the Martins like cattle?”
Regina opened her eyes slowly. Her tone was firm and cold.
“You are already like your mother, who likes to lure people, therefore it’s not bad for you to marry a maniac,” Caroline mocked.
After hearing the words.
Regina clenched her fist. The sharp nails pierced into the flesh, and a vague pain pervaded.
“You’d best behave and listen to me for the sake of your mother’s medical bills.”
Caroline approached the wrist, which was covered in white bandages. She gave a faint smile before snapping her wrist and folding it outward with force.
“Ah!”
Regina was unable to move. The sound of pain couldn’t help but spill out from her throat.
“What are you doing?”
