Chapter 39

Book:Alpha's Desire Published:2024-5-1

“Where is she?” Layton asked in his weak tone.
“She’s in her room, she said she didn’t want to accompany you.” Layton signed.
“You were right, I shouldn’t have killed him.”
“But you tried to protect her, I don’t blame you.”
“Just get her to a safe room and make sure you’re by her side.” Strider nodded. With everything that was going on Gemini was sent to a panic room accompanied by Strider.
“You would have been with Layton. Isn’t that always what you wanted.” Gemini took a book from the shelf.
“Not in this kind of situation and as I said I just want to be alone for today.” She took her time examining the book.
“You know just cause you were raised by humans it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t move on,” Strider spoke up and Gemini felt the need to tell him the truth.
“There’s something about you Gem. You just do not like us. Where are you really from?” Gemini hesitated, she always knew Strider had suspected her but she never thought he still didn’t trust her.
“I told everything about me, why don’t you trust me?” Strider shrugged.
“You can never be too sure you know.” Strider chuckled.
“But it doesn’t mean you can’t trust.”
“You just don’t know this world, this world is much cruel than you think.” Most people always had a tough past for them to be saying those words and Gemini wondered what his past was like.
“I heard you had a tough past. What happened?” Strider didn’t respond. He didn’t want to be reminded of his past but Gemini begged him to tell her.
“It wasn’t so long ago since I met my mate, we met unplanned and after some failed attempts to get a mate. We got married instantly and moved on together.” Gemini never thought that Strider had a wife before, he had always seemed uninterested in love.
“What happened to her?”
“She passed……I just don’t want to talk about it.” She understood how painful bringing back memories was.
“It will feel better if you say spit it out.” Strider smiled he hadn’t thought of releasing his past but he did like the thought of it.
“She was killed cause of disobedience, all I remembered were flames and smoke which made it hard to see. I heard her crying out for me so I followed her fading voice and when I got there I saw him with her blood in his hands.” Strider tried to remember the rest of his past but couldn’t.
“I don’t remember much the flames were too much for me to handle but luckily I was saved by the same person who killed her.” Strider tried his best to hide most of it but Gemini knew Layton was the one responsible for it all.
“It’s strange how you still walk by Layton’s side even after what happened.” Most people did question his loyalty to the alpha.
“He saved my life and I vowed to always be by his side.”
“But all that would have never happened if he didn’t order it.” Strider smiled, he didn’t know why he stayed by Layton’s side but Strider knew why Layton kept him by his side.
“I don’t even know why I protect him but unlike me, he needs me on his side more.” Gemini sighed, it was a shame what had happened to the girl and she wasn’t sure she knew Layton anymore.
“Where were you and Layton good friends back then?” Strider denied, he wasn’t a big fan of Layton in the past but he neither hated him.
“I didn’t like his company but I didn’t hate him even after her death.” Gemini felt that Strider was not telling her the dull story or truth even for wolfs it was strange, she did expect Strider to hate Layton since he was a wolf, and wolves are not trusted fans.
“I wonder why you all are like this.”
“We like learning from others’ mistakes and once Layton killed his parents the rest wouldn’t risk it so they had to do what was best even Layton himself accepts the statement.” Gemini couldn’t help but imagine the scene.
“It’s really sad, I never imagined people could be so heartless.”
“So you see why I had to advise you, he would not hesitate to take a beloveds life I’d it meant losing his role.” Gemini thought as she listened carefully at Strider’s words.
“It was still kind of him to place you by his side, being a beta is a huge role.” Gemini tried to support Layton.
“It is important you see the good in him after all you are his wife but just don’t get too comfortable.” Gemini did see it was important she took his words.
“Have you always been in a pack?”
“No really, my parents were killed when I was just a kid but luckily one of the Enduro packs members found me and took me in.” She felt sorry for him.
“I know how that might feel, I lost my father well he also got killed and it was really hard for me to accept it.” Images of her father flashed into her mind.
“What happened to your mother?” She also remembered that she told them that she was an orphan.
“I don’t really know, she disappeared after my father’s death.” She felt happy that both she and Strider had something in common.
