Lola’s pov,
Lola covered her eyes and screamed, waiting to feel the simmering hot flames on her body. Time passed and she felt nothing. When she opened her eyes again everybody was standing around her with concerned faces.
“You okay Lola?” Tristan asked.
Lola looked left and right in confusion, “Where did it go?”
Fenna frowned, “Where did what go Lola?”
Lola’s eyes were fully dilated, and her heart was racing, “The flaming wolf that jumped out of the flames?!”
Silence followed as nobody spoke and just looked at her awkwardly. Lola scanned their faces looking for some recognition somewhere, “Nobody saw a wolf erupt from the flames?”
They all shook their heads and looked at her like she a fucking mental biscuit. Fenna and Tristan exchanged a look before Fenna put her hand on Lola’s shoulder.
“It’s getting late maybe you need some rest, Lola. Come on I will take you back.”
Lola rubbed her eyes and wondered whether she was going insane. She was lost in thought during the walk back and didn’t speak a word. Fenna dropped her off at the door of the house, rambling on about something but Lola did not process it.
She walked into the dark cabin and leaned against the cold wood of the door. She closed her eyes and tried to get rid of the vision imprinted in her brain. For some reason, the wolf had given her the chills. All she wanted right now was to find Noah and lay in his arms safe and sound.
When she opened her eyes, she noticed the cabin was braised in silence. There was a small tea light burning in the kitchen and Lola approached it carefully. Her senses were sharp and on full alert after her experience with Marc.
“Noah?” she shouted but she got no response, so she slowly walked to the tea light and noticed a letter next to it.
“Follow the light to find your beasty man out of sight.”
Lola grinned because it had to be from Noah after she called him beasty when she was hammered as fuck and he carried her home. Excited she walked to the terrace and found a trail of lights leading to the lake. She followed them and gasped when she saw the lake was filled with floating lanterns, lighting it up against the dark sky. She laughed when she found Noah on a floating raft at the edge of the lake. The raft was covered in blankets and pillows and there was a big basket full of food and drinks. Noah laid there on his side with a rose in his mouth, looking at her all smug.
Lola chuckled, “I should have brought some paper and pencils. You are in the perfect pose the be drawn as one of my French girls.”
Noah pouted as he stood up to help her onto the raft, “Aw I thought I was the image of sexiness and manliness.”
Lola wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him, “Oh yes always. The spitting image of a god whatever you do.”
Noah playfully spanked her on her ass, “Do I now?”
Lola laughed and wiggled herself out of his arms to dive into the basket of food. She got all excited when she found chocolate-covered strawberries and immediately started eating them. Noah shook his head laughing while he pushed them off the side onto the middle of the lake.
“I see where your priorities lie, pushing me to the side for some chocolate. You are a pig.”
Lola mumbled with a full mouth, “If I am a pig then you are a pig lover.”
Noah grinned and stared at her naughtily before jumping her. He took small bites off her skin and tickled her at the same time, “Let me taste some of that bacon then!”
Lola laughed loudly as he mercilessly tickled her till she was out of breath.
“Stop, stop, stop! You win,” she panted.
Noah grinned proudly and got up on his arms looking down at her. Lola laid under him and stared deep into his gray eyes. He just looked at her with eyes full of love and warmth and it seemed like he wanted to say something but was lost for words. Her stomach started to flutter and all of a sudden, she got nervous. There was something about the way he looked at her that made her feel so many things at once. She cupped his face with her hands and pulled him toward her until she felt the soft press of his lips. She closed her eyes and embraced the feeling of the soft and tender kiss. Everything around her just seemed to disappear as she leaned in even closer. Savoring every second that seemed to last for hours.
When he finally pulled away, they just smiled at each other shyly knowing they just crossed a line where there was no return. Lola gasped when she noticed stars dropping from the sky like fireworks.
“What is going on? She asked stunned while looking at the sky with wide eyes.
Noah pressed himself up and turned around to look at the sky.
“It’s what they call starlight night. Every once in a while, there is a night filled with falling stars. No one knows why but it is said that it is a sign from the gods to notify us that something big is coming.”
Lola gazed at the flickering explosions of light dropping from the sky.
“It is beautiful,” she said full of amazement. She faced Noah for a second with a happy smile, “Thank you for this surprise. I love it!”
Noah smiled at her warmly and sat down, he patted between his legs, “Come sit here. We don’t want to miss it all.”
Lola sat down between his legs, and he pulled a blanket over them before he wrapped his strong arms around her. As she sat there in his arms looking at the sky she wondered if she should be honest with him.
There was no doubt about it anymore that they cared about each other. Maybe it was time to tell him the real reason she ended up in his life. She knew she could trust him so why was every cell in her body urging her to keep this information to herself?
