Cristelle felt her heart had been broken into pieces. “What are you trying to emphasize, then?”
“You went to that place without thinking about the babies. You’re selfish, Cristelle.”
Selfish? Cristelle bit on her bottom lip, suppressing the hot anger burning in her chest, “If you think I’m selfish, maybe you shouldn’t come to see me anymore. I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable, Mr. Bradley.”
Cristelle stood up from the couch, “Please leave my apartment. After all, I’m such a selfish person. Maybe one day I’ll do something to harm you as well.”
“What’s wrong with you?” Linford huffed, “You’re insanely unbelievable! Maybe that’s why Candace got sick! It’s all because of your twisted personality!”
Candace?!
Cristelle almost fainted as she felt the sharp pain in her chest.
How could he say it was all her fault?
Cristelle’s eyes went red instantly, “Linford! You have no right to say that! You don’t know what you’re talking about!”
“Actually, I have all the rights. I am their father.” Linford also raised his voice.
“Don’t you walk around and tell everyone that you’re their father! Where were you when Candace got sick? Where were you when I sent her to the hospital in the middle of the night? Where were you when we were homeless on the street?!” Cristelle screamed, “Now you’re suddenly claiming to be their father? Where have you been when we needed you the most?!”
Linford went frozen.
A sudden regret held him as he looked the woman in the eyes, “I’m sorry. I…I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Cristelle huffed and looked away, avoiding making eye contact with him.
Linford felt his heart had been broken into pieces.
He would never abandon them if he remembered them. He just lost his memories.
But explaining the whole thing just sounded feeble. Besides, he didn’t even know where to start. The temperature in the room suddenly became stiff.
“Mommy!?” Inside the babies’ bedroom, Cody was woken up by the noise. He ran out of his room instantly, hugging Cristelle’s leg tightly.
“Cody, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to scream,” Cristelle only realized that her son had been in that room all this time. She carried him in her arms, pressing a kiss on top of his head, “Why are you still wearing pajamas, baby? You just woke up, didn’t you?”
Cody nodded, rubbing one eye with the back of his little chubby hand, “Mommy, I’m hungry.”
“But it’s already noon. What have you had for breakfast?” Cristelle carried her son to the kitchen as she asked.
Cody shook his head, “I didn’t eat anything.”
Cristelle’s tone got sharp, “How could you not eat? Don’t you remember, honey? If you still want to get bigger, you must have breakfast.” She cast a cold stare in Linford’s direction.
Was this how he had taken care of the babies?
“He said he still wanted to sleep,” Linford explained, “I saved some food in the refrigerator for him.”
“Cody never delays if it’s time to get up from bed. This is all my fault. I should’ve woken up and cooked breakfast for him myself. I bet it must be torture for you to take care of the babies. If you don’t like Cody, you don’t have to force yourself to take care of him,” Cristelle spat out those sharp words with the softest tone.
She found herself only getting more and more disappointed with this man. She really didn’t want to see him anymore.
“You’re unbelievable!” Linford clenched his teeth.
Cristelle brought her son to the kitchen, “What do you want to eat for lunch? I’ll cook something for you.”
Cody hooked his arms around her neck, “Mac and Cheese.”
“Sure. Mommy’s cooking it for you right now. Go back and put some clothes on, will you?” Cristelle put her son down.
Cody left a kiss on her cheek and walked away.
Before he could reach his bedroom, a huge thud suddenly brought the boy to look.
“Mom!” Cody screamed in fear.
Linford instantly dashed into the kitchen and found Cristelle lying on the floor, fainting.
“Cristelle? Cristelle!” Linford called her name as he carried the woman in his arms, turning to Cody, “Go find the doctor. He’s in 1402.”
Cody ran out of the apartment instantly.
Linford put Cristelle on her bed, feeling her forehead. She was burning. He didn’t know if she was sick or if it was still the drug.
Soon, Drew brought Candace back to the apartment.
Candace’s eyes went red when she saw her mommy lying on the bed.
Cody pulled his little sister into a hug, telling her that everything would be alright. Linford cast a glance at the boy, noticing his hands were trembling. He was clearly also scared.
“How is she?” Linford asked.
Drew sighed. “She’s clearly still fatigued, and she has a fever. I need to put her on a drip. I’m calling my assistant right now so he can bring the things I need here.”
Linford let out a breath, “Sure, thank you.”
“What? Am I delusional, or you just said thanks?” Drew clasped a hand on his mouth.
Linford’s face darkened, ignoring him. His friend could be considered a genius, but he was too dramatic sometimes.
“Doc, will Mom be okay?” Cody asked as he looked up.
“She’ll be fine. I’ll put her drip later, and she will wake up after it’s done. You two must be good. So she will be less worried,” Drew sounded serious.
Linford cast a glance at the boy before saying to the doctor, “Could you make some macaroni for the boy?”
Cody wanted to say he didn’t want to eat, but his stomach suddenly started to rumble.
Drew ruffled Cody’s head and went to the kitchen.
Cody and Candace both stood beside Cristelle’s bed, refusing to leave. Linford held the girl in his arms, “Let Mommy sleep. We can play outside.”
Candace shook her head, pushing at him, so he put the girl down. Candace wanted to be here with her mommy.
Cody pulled Candace back, huffing at Linford, “This is all your fault! She wouldn’t have fainted if you didn’t argue with her!”
Candace’s eyes widened in surprise.
