Linford sent his assistant to bring some delicious food to Cristelle and the babies later.
Most of them were kids’ favorite dishes.
“Candace, you’re not scared of Mr. Bradley?” Cristelle asked casually.
Candace, holding a drumstick, shook her head.
So she was not afraid of Linford?
This was her daughter’s first time willing to get close to a stranger. Cristelle was curious, “Why is that?”
Candace blinked and shook her head, focusing on her food.
She also didn’t know why. She was just not afraid of that man.
Cody huffed, “It’s probably because that man is good-looking.”
Candace blinked and shook her head again.
Cody kept asking, “Who’s more good-looking? Me or that weird guy?”
Cristelle only sighed upon hearing the questions her son asked.
Cristelle stayed at the hospital for only one day before she brought the kids back. The first thing she did was to change the lock.
After that, she cleaned the apartment.
And then, she made a decision. She wanted to quit her job. She’d rather give up her perfect job so that she could spend every hour with her babies and keep them safe.
However, an unwanted guest somehow decided to visit at this time.
It was her uncle Ingrid’s husband, Cyrus.
“Cristelle… Please don’t take this to court. Rose is still so young. She didn’t mean to do that… And Ingrid, she’s just an idiot,” Cyrus stopped Cristelle when she tried to throw away the trash.
“Cristelle, I know you’re a great person. They were just messing with you. They never mean to hurt Cody. Please just let it slide. I’m begging you right now.”
Cristelle didn’t want to argue with him at the gate. So she brought him back to her apartment. Cody and Candace were playing with Legos. Candace hid behind Cody’s back the moment she saw the middle-aged man. Cody also looked alert, asking downright, “Why are you here? Do you also want Mom’s money?”
Cyrus went red, “No… Of course not, I’m just here to visit you guys.”
Saying that he extended an arm, trying to hug Cody, but Cody pulled away.
The boy felt a little disgusted, “We’re doing great. Now that you’ve seen that, you should go back.”
Cyrus’s arm faltered awkwardly, forcing out a smile, “I have something important to discuss with your Mom. You guys are too little to understand.”
Cody sniffed. Of course, he understood what Cyrus was doing here. He must be here to beg for his Mom’s mercy.
Cristelle didn’t want the kids to get involved, so she said, “Cody, bring your sister back to the bedroom. I’ll tell you guys when this is finished.”
Cody huffed and took his sister away reluctantly.
“Have a seat,” Cristelle gestured at Cyrus, pouring him a cup of tea.
Cyrus started to talk instantly as he sat down, “Cristelle, Ingrid, and Rose should’ve never done that. That was so stupid. I am your mother’s brother. Would you please spare us?”
Cristelle only sighed, “Mom’s heart would’ve been broken if she saw my children living like this and me.” Her sister and herself used to be spoiled Friesley sisters. Now, her sister had gone missing, and she was living a life like this.
Her Mom would’ve been so sad if she got to see all of that.
“I know… It’s all my fault. I should’ve taken care of you as your uncle,” Cyrus said, “But… Ingrid and Rose are also your family. You can’t just throw them in jail. Besides, Rose is just a kid. Her life would be ruined if she was thrown in jail. I’m begging you right now, Cristelle. Please listen…”
So now, they were her family again? Cyrus had always known how his wife and daughter bullied Cristelle in that home. But he had never tried to stop them.
Cristelle only felt cold as she snapped, “They almost killed my son!”
Cyrus didn’t care about that at all. He only cared about his need, “I know… but Cody is still running around happily, right? Just stop clinging to this issue. Let’s go to the police station so Ingrid and Rose will be free.”
Cristelle was so pissed off that she started to laugh, “Uncle, they kidnapped my son. They’ve broken the law.”
“What law? I’m begging you right now. What do you want? Do you want me to beg you on my knees? Cristelle, you wouldn’t be still alive without our help! You have the gall to do this to my family!”
Cyrus had never thought his wife and daughter were wrong. He only thought he had helped Cristelle before, and she should be grateful for that.
Cristelle put the cup onto the table with a thud, her face pale with anger, “Uncle, if this is your attitude, I don’t think we have much left to talk. According to the law, Ingrid and Rose will pay for what they have done to my son.”
Cyrus stood up from his seat, pointing one finger at Cristelle, “Good for you! Now you’re rich, and you don’t need us. So you think you can get rid of us, don’t you? You will even sabotage your relatives! That’s vicious! Your parents taught you well!”
His words were dripping with venom.
Cristelle didn’t want to let him get what he wanted, “That’s terribly blunt, uncle. When I took the babies and left the house, Ingrid said I was officially cut off from the family, and I should never go back. Now that I’ve finally built up my own life, you guys suddenly decided to take away my things. None of you seemed so keen to get close to me when I was broke. Now I have a couple of pennies, and you all just can’t leave me alone.”
Cyrus was so pissed off. Cristelle had always been a timid girl. He didn’t expect her to fight back, “What do you mean by saying that? Am I not good enough for you? Your father was a corrupt man. I provided you with a shelter so you could raise your babies. But now you decided to be an ungrateful bastard.”
