Everett’s POV
I walked straight to Violet’s room to deliver Stellan’s greetings to her, but then when I knocked, she did not answer immediately.
I knocked three more times before she came to the door and opened it, and she did not look very happy. Like she had been stuck here, just being moody all day.
“What’s wrong, Violet?” I asked her, worry etched all over my face.
She looked up at me with a smile. “Oh, it’s alright actually, Everett. I just got up from the bed now, I was asleep.”
That smile was obviously fake, and what she told me was obviously a lie, and her face told me that she obviously knew that I would not fall for that kind of thing, but then her face was also pleading for me to not ask any more questions lest she teared up again, so then I left it at that with a sigh.
I knew all that because I trained her, she grew up with me, and so I could read her like an open book.
“I came to speak to you.” I said, letting myself in and shutting the door behind us. The. I perched on her bed.
“Stellan sent his greetings to you. He also said that you should take care of yourself, which by the way, does not seem to be what you are doing.” I said, shaking my head at her.
“Oh shut up.” She said and rolled her eyes, but her demeanor was brighter. “He could have just called me though, what happened?” She asked.
“Actually, we called him to discuss a few things. About him returning to our pack, to the Cresent moon pack.” I started, but she cut me off with a squeal.
“Really?” She said and hurried to sit at my side.
“Yes, really. But listen, before you get too giddy.” I warned, and her face fell into a frown and she sat back.
“When Theodore and I talked about it. I had been against it. I did not want Stellan to come back to be with us, because he had other duties to attend to. Theodore on the other hand, had prioritized your happiness and had wanted him to come back.” I paused to look at her reaction.
“Why did you not want him to come back? Do you really want to see me suffer that much?” Violet screamed at me, pulling my hair.
Normally, I would have taken it all, but today’s events had put a stress toll on me, and I did not want it to look as if I was picking between my pack and my best friend.
Violet’s hands were still pulling at my hair, and so I growled, asserting her of my dominance and reminding her of my position as the superior to her.
Suddenly, she let go of my hair and bowed a bit. “I am sorry, Everett. I just got angry over the fact that it seemed like you had been asked to pick between a group of werewolves and me, and that you had picked them over me.” She said sniffing. “And because I had hoped that you had agreed for Stellan to come home.”
“Listen to me, Violet.” I said, holding her up. “I honestly wish that I could have allowed Stellan to come home, but he is a spy. He is working closely for me and he is the only reason I was able to get to you and Rachelle just in time that day. If Stellan goes away, we would be at a major disadvantage, and I am sure that you know that the blood moon pack would declare war upon us as soon as they can. Stellan had worked his way up their pack and he provides me with legal and illegal information about them, and that way, we would be able to keep ourselves, with the inclusion of the members of our pack safe, and we would be able to defeat the Alpha and his partners. His children too. You have seen how they treat low ranked wolves, would you not want us to save them?” I asked and she sighed. “Theodore even tried to think of a way out, to get another spy to go into the blood moon pack, but-” Violet cut me in her voice laden with heavy breaths.
“No!” She said. “I feel glad that Theodore was being sympathetic towards my case, but that would not be wise. He would have to go through getting in and fitting in, and for him to be able to get high into the Alpha Edward’s workers, he would have to go through a lot of stress and even that does not even guarantee his success. It would not be wise, let Stellan stay there, it would be much more convenient, and I’m sure.”
She nodded.
“Stellan said the same thing. He is so close and we are so close to defeating Alpha Edward, and Kylie and Kyle. It is all just a matter of time, and in time, the both of you would be reunited.
Violet nodded with tears streaming down her face. “I trust your words and that everything you do has a pure intention behind it. It would all just be a matter of time. I am sure of it.”
“How is Rachelle doing, by the way? I have not seen her at all today.” Violet said, as she entered the bathroom and washed her face.
“I had only seen her this morning. You know, I had alpha duties to do, and then I also had a naughty baby sister to attend to.” I said, walking over to her in the mirror as I tried to poke her cheek.
She wanted my hand away. “You will ruin the cleansing gel’s work now. This stuff helps my skin, don’t you know?” She asked me, rolling her eyes.
“Well, no, I did not know. Sorry.” I grinned sheepishly.
“I will go and see Rachelle after I am done with my face. I wonder how she has survived so long without seeing my beauty. She must be so starved!” Violet exclaimed and I rolled my eyes at the dramatic young woman.
“Drama queen, of course. Please yourself.” I snorted as she flipped her hair and walked out.
–
“How is it that you guys went to different places, and yet, you guys arrived at practically the same time? How?” Theodore asked with a look of bewilderment on his face. “I mean, did you guys all plan this beforehand?”
“Not exactly.” Hazel said, her voice set in a drawl. “Actually, I had thought that he would be coming back much later guys, but you would never believe it. I was on my way to the airport when he took a photo and captioned it ‘On my way to the airport bruh!’ and then I was so surprised and so I took a picture and sent it to him with the same caption. Then we agreed to meet up and come back here together. Oh, and trust me, my ears bled throughout the car ride. The hired taxi guy played the same song on repeat because Crew here had asked him to, and then they both began to sing the song with the most terrible voices I had ever heard in my life- and trust me, babies, I have heard a lot of terrible voices in my day. But that was not even the point, although-” Crew cut her in.
“Oh, other people want to talk to, Hazel. You are not the only living being with a mouth here, you know?” Crew said with an embarrassed face.
Hazel waved Crew aside. “Oh, shut up. You are just mad that I am already embarrassing you in front of Rachelle already without giving you a chance to do that yourself.” Everyone laughed at that.
“So, Rachelle. Hi. I am sure you already know that I am Hazel by now. And I heard you have got questions? And strange things about your wolf that you do not understand? Can you tell me about your wolf, please?” Hazel paused and then continued.
“Oh, and please be free to say whatever you want in any way you like. I would really love to be your friend and all, and if you swear during your description, it is actually okay, I have got no problem with that, actually.” Hazel shrugged.
“Well, it is a really weird thing to explain. I mean, originally, my wolf was a mixture of black and brown. Light brown. That was the wolf I had always had, and that was even the way I had been found by Theodore while ‘trespassing’ over here, you know?” Rachelle said, with a shrug as she put some food into her mouth.
“But then, on the day I noticed something different, Theodore had asked me to come and train with him- um, he wanted to train me to make me and my wolf stronger, so then after much persuasion, I had agreed.” Rachelle smiled shyly.
“Aww, do not tell me that you also wolf shy. That is so cute.” Crew gushed and Hazel struck him on the head.
“Shut up, Crew. Please, continue.” She said, gesturing to Rachelle.
“So, that day after I had shifted, I noticed that my wolf looked extremely different, like, it was white. A sparkly white, and even my claws were sparkly with some kind of substance that looked like a glitter coat? It was all so confusing.” Rachelle shook her head.
“Oh my goddess! Bless you, your new wolf came with a goddess given mani-pedi. I am so jealous of you!” Hazel squealed.
“Did anything else happen?” Crew urged.
“Well, not really. I do not think so. To be honest, I was too occupied with staring at my new coat with shock to notice if anything else out of the ordinary had happened. I just looked at myself along with members of the pack here. I don’t know, actually.” Rachelle said, blinking hard.
“And down her wolf spine, there was a long gleaming golden design. It looked intricate, and it was like ancient markings that could be seen on historical carvings and it was etched onto her back to form something like a straight line.” I said, cutting them in.
“Huh? I did not see that though.” Rachelle said as she looked at me with furrowed brows, confusion swirling in her eyes.
“That was because you were too focused on your fur and nails, woman. I saw it.” I nodded and ruffled Rachelle’s hair.
Theodore nodded. “Yeah, Everett is right. I saw that too, it was beautiful.”
“There is a lot of strange, but beautiful history surrounding the white wolves, and I do not know how to co relate this with everything, but I am sure- or at least, I hope that we would be able to find something to help us out with this.” Hazel said nodding.
“White wolves are supposed to be extinct now though. White were wolves, that is. And they used to belong to were wolves that came from crescent blood moon. Did you come from crescent blood moon, or do you know if you have crescent blood moon ancestors or family members? Near or distant?” Crew asked and Rachelle visibly stiffened.
“No, I have no family. I do not know my parents, or anyone else who might have been related to me for that matter.” Rachelle said with a shaky voice and I glared at Crew and Hazel while standing up to wrap my hands around her.
“You guys, if you have any questions, direct them at me, not her, and I would answer the ones that you might have but have not asked yet.” I said, growling.
“No, she had never seen a cookout change in the wolf’s fur before. No, she does not come from a coven of witches. No, she decided not try to dye her wolf fur, and if she did, it would not have a lasting effect. Any other questions, you know where to find me.” I said as I stood up and took Rachelle inside with me.
