Kasan’s POV: (yay! finally!)
“Before we brought him here, the doctor confirmed that he lost his memories…. and it might actually be permanent.”
For the umpteenth time, I remembered the words Kenley said to me just after Clara blacked out. I don’t know why he felt the need to notify me at that moment, but I suppose it was all too obvious that she had fainted solely from seeing Lucas’s face.
Her body quivered, her lips wobbled and her face had paled. That could only mean that he had done something drastic…
But what…?
… he lost his memories? Ha!
Unfortunately for him, that fact changes absolutely nothing… nothing at all.
Tilting my head back a bit, my callous fingers tightened around the bloody baton I was holding while the other hand dug deeper into Lucas’s hair, nails piercing through his flesh. Blood ran along his scalp then slipped down his forehead, spiraling over his already bruised face.
How dare he lose his memories? How da–
“Kas-Alpha?!” Nate came busting through the door unannounced, panic settled over his features. He was wearing one of those wary looks on his face, which means he knew very well that bothering me was the same as saying ‘kill me now’.
Clicking my tongue, I released Lucas’s unconscious body and rose from my chair. He sprawled out on the floor the moment my fingers de-tangled from his hair, eyes swollen, face bruised and body packed with countless leaking wounds.
Only a few swings of this very baton had done that. But despite the fact that he’s a werewolf, he pathetically fell unconscious. After waking up from a coma, I suppose his body is simply too weak to withstand anything, but whether he’s unconscious or not doesn’t matter in the slightest. I’ll continue to break every single bone in his body until he remembers exactly what he had done to scar her to this extent.
…. Only then will I kill him.
“What could’ve been so important to make you barge in here after having told you not to enter?” I glared at Nate. “I don’t re–”
“Lora is here.”
“Lora? Who the fuck is Lora?”
“She’s Fredrick’s daughter. He sent a message, it’s important. And about what you asked me to investigate…” He took a folder out of his jacket, settling it on the couch. “It uh seems as if…” He hesitated for a second, looking unsure of whether to continue or not. But a mere scowl from my direction drew the words out of him within seconds. “… it seems as if Lucas indeed abused her a few years ago, so your suspicions were correct. At the age of fourteen, she was found in her room on the verge of death. Her brother who was left at home with her, was the main suspect, however, he disappeared into thin air after that incident. I’m guessing that was probably a year before he joined our pack.”
… It’s just as I suspected. Lucas was her nightmare… the one she had been running from that night.
Seven years ago when my father (the current leader of The Riders) had first begun his hunt for my head, I bumped into a battered girl in the woods while fleeing. If it weren’t for our predicaments back then, we wouldn’t have encountered each other.
She saw clearly when I shifted back to human form and she clearly saw the blood painting my nails, yet unlike everyone else, she never once thought of me as a monster.
It was around the time that I first shifted into my wolf. My mother knew it would’ve happen someday so she wasn’t the least bit surprised and was planning on using that opportunity to come clean to my father, but everything didn’t go the way she thought it would. To father, I was nothing but a hellish monster.
So that day, I became both a monster and my mother’s murderer. If I hadn’t shifted, father wouldn’t have found out her secret and ultimately, she wouldn’t have been killed by his hand.
Everything had been turned upside down in the blink of an eye…. and it was nobody’s fault but mine.
I ran away that very day with father’s men on my tail. That was when I met her deep in the forest… both of us running from two different nightmares.
She left the town soon after we met and despite having searched all the surrounding areas, I never caught even a whiff of her scent. Just when I was on the brink of giving up, I happened to have seen her at a club. I was beyond ecstatic… I wanted to let it slip that it wasn’t our first meeting, I wanted to remind her of that night… but I didn’t…. or rather I couldn’t.
I’m half sure she remembers nothing of that night and I’d like to keep it that way for as long as possible. That was back then, this is now. There is no telling what her view of me will be now that she has gotten older.
If I tell her what I am, would she still say that I am not a monster? Would s–
No… that doesn’t really matter. As long as I keep my werewolf side at bay, she won’t get the chance to even think about such things.
The real question is….
If Lucas is a werewolf, why is she human?
“Lora…” I pointed sluggishly at the woman sitting opposite of me, my hard gaze digging into her skin. “Your father sent a message, correct? Your job is simply to decode everything then send it over to one of my guys. I did not order you to set foot on my turf.”
It’s been around six years since I’ve last seen her. Her father is one of the oldest spies I’ve sent to keep an eye on The Riders. He’s been sending me intel every few weeks concerning their next moves or their whereabouts and his daughter here has always personally decoded everything, but she hasn’t stepped foot on my turf for years. Has she been exposed?
“I’ve a-already decoded the message, boss.” She fixed her glasses atop the bridge of her nose as her wary eyes briefly traveled down to my bloody clothes. “It s-says that ‘The Riders’ have put nightwalker in action and it seems that the target is the woman who you’ve taken in. E-Even my father himself doesn’t know who that mercenary is, which means that we k-know nothing about who or what we’re dealing with. Is there anyone who h-has joined you recently perhaps? Or anyone suspicious loitering around?”
Nightwalker? I’ve heard annoying stories of that mercenary countless times. So they’ve decided to stir things up now of all times…. And their target is my mate?
Father must be losing his fucking mind!
I clenched my jaw, my elongated nails digging into my thighs through the thick jeans I was wearing.
It’s all fun and games when the target is me, but father should know better than anyone that going after my mate would be the last straw. If even a single strand of hair leaves her head by his hand…
…. I’ll kill him myself.
Guys… sorry for the late updates! I’m not sure if I like this chapter but alot of things were unveiled… So thoughts? Is Kasan going too far? Should Lucas be forgiven now that he lost his memories? What about Kasan and Clara’s first meeting? I didn’t go in depth yet, but there probably will be a flashback at some point in the story. Don’t forget to drop some comments or reviews!
