It’s Him

Book:The Devil's Possession Published:2024-6-5

“I won’t stop until ‘he’ acknowledges that I’m better than he will ever be. I will show him that even a monster… can still be human.”
His eyes met mine as soon as he spat his words and I gulped. His appearance all together held nothing but malice, hatred and pain. This kind of behaviour was both astounding and unsettling. I’ve never seen him show so many emotions all at once… And more importantly, I’ve never seen him look so dark and devilish.
It makes me wonder… who is this man he keeps talking about? His father? Or is it someone else?
“Why would any idiot think you’re a monster? Killing your enemies and acting all cold-blooded and dominant is a huge part of this mob thing, right? It’s not like you have two pointy horns and sharp teeth.” I forced a laugh despite the fact that his aura made the whole place seem extremely gloomy.
He shook his head. “There are times when I kill because I have to and other times…. I kill because I want to. There’s a clear difference…” He pulled me impossibly closer by the hips and buried his head in my shoulder, while staring directly at me from the corner of his eyes. “… Do you still think I’m not a monster?” The look in his eyes was almost pleading, and his hands kept tightening around me as if he thought I’d slip away any moment.
I flinched. Is this…. him being vulnerable? Does this side of him also have something to do with his father?
In this situation, what am I to say? What am I to do even?
It’s obvious that he needs some kind of comfort, yet I don’t know how to do just that! How can I even say we’re dating?!
Knowing me, if I sprout anything now I’d most likely make things worse rather than better. My mouth unfortunately seems to work that way.
Well whatever, let’s just settle with the basic!
With slightly tinted cheeks, I molded my lips together and inched my fingers up his chest, wrapping my arms around his neck in a simple hug.
It was an embarrassing thing to do. I knew that very well. So when seconds passed and he kept his head on my shoulder but failed to return the hug, I couldn’t have been more embarrassed.
I was quick to move away, but the moment I did, I felt a hand grasp the back of my head, pulling me back into his arms.
“You’re as red as a tomato, Princess~”
I could practically hear his grin.
Appalled, I quickly slapped his hands off me and pulled back, moving my ass the furthest downwards so I was practically sitting on his knee.
Indeed, he was grinning at me, white teeth confirmed to be on full display. I gaped at him. A while ago, his expression had been so gloomy that I thought I’d stifle to death under his gaze. What the fuck happened in less than three seconds!?
It’s as if he hadn’t been behaving all sad to begin with!
His duality is plain scary….
“Weren’t you hugging me just now? What are you so embarrassed about?” He flicked his fingers over my flushed cheek while forcing me back up his thighs with the other hand. “We’ve done quite a bit of lewd things and you were never this shy.”
“What the hell is wrong with you!?” I smacked his hand away from my cheek and dropped my head a bit, trying to hide my flushed cheeks without him taking notice. “One minute you’re angry, another minute your face looks like a whole army marched over it and then another minute you look like a fucking clown! Are you a psycho?”
“I thought you already knew that.” He laughed.
… But that laugh didn’t quite reach his eyes, even I could tell.
Is this his pathetic way of hiding how he feels? Pfft.
“Since we’re gonna be dating from now on–” I tucked my hair back as I attempted to change the subject. “–let’s set some serious rules. First off, I get bored extremely easily, which means, I could wake up tomorrow and no longer want to see your face. That’s just me.” I shrugged when he rose a brow. “Therefore I’d like it if I could live freely. You don’t get to keep me caged and expect me to accept it like an obedient puppy. I’ve been under house arrest for far too long… even before I met you. I think it’s time I get some freedom.”
“You’re staying with me in exchange for your parents’ lives, remember? You don’t get to make demands. Besides, I did say that if you’re a good girl you could have whatever you want, but you don’t fit the good girl criteria, do you?”
I frowned, my lips turning up in distaste. “I want to go shopping, visit my parents and stuff. Aren’t you sitting on tons of money? I could easily help you spend it all in a matter of days, so I don’t see the problem. What do you say, wanna be my sugar daddy?”
“How old do you think I am?” He scowled. “Those pipsqueaks who were lounging in here are bound to have started spreading news. It’ll be a matter of time before my rivals gets word about you.” Sighing, he drew his chair closer to the table and shifted, reaching for his liquor which I had long forgotten about.
“Now that I’ve cooled my head, I suppose I shouldn’t have been so rash.” Bringing the glass to his lips, he chugged down every drop in one go and slammed it back on the table. “But I’ll let you do whatever you want as long you don’t mind me tagging along.”
“Fyi, I can protect myself perfectly. By the way, who’s gonna drive? You’re drinking.”
He grinned again. “This amount doesn’t affect me.”
“The fact still remains that you’re drinking.” I pointed out, crossing my arms.
“It’s only a few glasses.”
… A few glasses turned into dozens, and throughout all that, he didn’t even bat an eye. I guess I have to give him his props for his incredible ability to hold his liquor.
We continued to small talk with me still sitting on his lap and him staring up at me. I doubt he even broke eye contact at any point in time.
I suppose, I am simply too alluring.
After downing countless glasses of liquor and chatting about random shit, the rest of the day was spent with him asking questions, mostly about what I like and don’t.
Though I’d have much liked it if he kept quiet, I didn’t mind the questions. I can’t deny that I felt relaxed for a change, but I wasn’t so sure what was more thrilling… the fact that I was on a date or the fact that I was in a date with him….
Who would’ve thought that this actually isn’t so bad?… especially since I’m not here with just anyone… I’m with Kasan; the man people call the devil.

When we arrived back at his house, the place was pretty dark, not to the point where I couldn’t see anything but dark nonetheless. The moonlight wasn’t as bright and Kasan didn’t seem to have much lights outdoors.
Sighing, I reached for the car door and opened it, ready to step out. I could only manage to get one foot out before Kasan gripped me by the hand.
“I forgot to give you my gift.”
“Gift?” I drew my eyes away from his face and down to the small box he was holding. Despite not even knowing what was inside, I felt my cheeks heat up the moment my gaze landed on it.
“What’s this for?”
“It’s just something I’ve been keeping for the past few years. Why, are you touched?” He popped that annoying grin that I hated beyond words.
He always finds the best ways to ruin the mood.
“I’m rather annoyed.” I replied, yanking the box out of his hold. “I hope it’s not some cheap shit.”
He chuckled. “Come on. Open it when we’re inside.”
He pulled open the car door and stepped outside with me following suit. The moment we were both standing in front his house, a piercing scream instantly blasted through my eardrums.
“Donna!”
I jumped, my eyes quickly snapping over to a group of men standing in the dark –who my eyes totally didn’t catch before now– Nate was one of them, so was a frowning Kenley and the twins.
Nate was undoubtedly the one who had just screamed for no good reason.
“My heart nearly jumped out my fucking chest! Why are you all standing in the fucking dark?!”
“We’ve been waiting.” He smiled at me. “Boss promised us a celebration.”
“Celebration?” I rose a brow. “For what?”
“This guy here–” He reached behind him and grabbed a guy by the arm, pulling him forward. “–finally woke up from a four year coma.”
F-Four year? But Kasan said three…!
“It’s definitely worth a celebration! Donna, say hi to Lucas; one of our o—”
I didn’t quite catch the rest of his sentence, because the moment my eyes managed to scan the guy’s face even through the dark, my body lost it footing and I was heading straight for the ground, whilst everything around me slowly got devoured by darkness.
And before long, I fainted…
It’s him… Lucas; my brother.
