His Pain

Book:Alpha Damon; His Lustful Desire Published:2024-6-5

After his assertion, I couldn’t say anything to him. My words will betray me if I choose to.
We worked for another thirty minutes in silence until we were done. My wrists were hurting from holding the papers for too long.
I watched as Alpha Damon arranged the papers, dropped them at the side, and stood up. I did the same too!
“You did great today,” he praised, walking towards his bedroom. Since he didn’t ask me to follow him, I stayed in the same spot and waited for him to come out, which he did.
“Thank you” A small smile crept on my face at his compliment. This should be the first time he has complimented me since I got here and it does feel different.
He walked around the room for a minute before turning to me. “Why are you standing? I didn’t ask you to do that” he narrowed his eyes on me.
I bit my lips, moved forward a bit, and slowly sat on the bed. If there is nothing else I am doing for him, shouldn’t he ask me to go?
“Are you getting along with Claire? I hope she is treating you well,” he asked. I feigned a smile at his question with a nod.
“Yes,” I fibbed. He wouldn’t believe me if I told him otherwise. What’s the use of saying the truth when it won’t favor me?
Alpha Damon holds Claire in high esteem. He trusts and believes that she is a good person. Maybe she is, but not to me.
Alpha Damon gaped at me for a moment. I could tell something was going on in his mind, but he didn’t say anything further concerning that.
“I need to take a quick shower. Wait for me. We are going to have lunch together, just you and I,” he announced, picked up his towel from his room, and entered the bathroom without sparing me another glance.
My back fell on the sofa with a loud exhale. The thought of me having lunch alone with Alpha Damon made my stomach twisted.
I might not be comfortable whenever Claire is around, but that doesn’t apply to Amy. The little girl is lovable.
She is nothing like her mother, which is the basis of my love for her. I would love to see her around again.
I was immense in my subconsciousness; I didn’t notice the bathroom door opening until Alpha Damon cleared his throat to get my attention.
I sat up immediately, coughing loudly and afraid that he would get mad at me for some unknown reason. “Are you always this paranoid and insecure? I do not bite,” he spoke.
My eyes swiftly moved to his body. Droplets of water were glistening on his skin, enhancing the contours of his physique, chiseled with defined muscles rippling beneath his taut skin.
His broad shoulders lead down to a well-defined chest complimenting his abdomen. That is a canvas of defined abs.
“You look like a hungry female wolf that wants to rip my body apart with the look on your face,” his voice broke me out of my thoughts.
My cheeks turned red out of embarrassment. I didn’t realize that I was staring at him for too long. Silence ensued as he moved past me to his room.
I unhurriedly face-palmed myself for getting caught while drooling over Alpha Damon.
He is the most beautiful male wolf I have seen in the entirety of my life. I am certain that everyone also thinks the way I do about him.
He was dressed in a caramel shirt and a pair of trousers by the time he came back to the living room. He took a seat opposite me with his legs crossed on the other.
“What do you want to do?” his voice echoed in my ears as I stared at him in confusion. “What?” I vocalized.
“Is there anything you want to do while you are here?” he rephrased. Anything? I thought about it for a while, but I couldn’t think of anything meaningful.
“Can you assign a work to me? I hate being idle,” I requested. I have done housework my whole life, it now doesn’t feel right for me not to have something to do.
“You are not a maid. I can’t let you work,” he contradicted. My heart melted at the fact that Alpha Damon didn’t see me as a maid. It brought an unfamiliar warmth to my heart because he is the first person who did not regard me as a maid.
“It’s just that I will get bored and sick if I am not doing anything,” I fiddled with my fingers as I said that.
“You can go out of the tower and have fun, explore the pack, and do things that make you happy. I can assign Zania to you if you are not comfortable going out with Claire,” he informed.
I opened and closed my mouth as no word came out of it. What do I say? Of course, I love everything he said. If I can go out anytime I want without getting restricted, it’s more than enough for me.
Nothing makes me happier than having the freedom to move around as much as I desire. I was not given many opportunities to do that.
Just on cue, some maids brought lunch in. They left right after the table was set. “Let’s eat,” Alpha Damon urged and stood up while I followed behind him.
There were varieties of dishes on the table. I wonder why they served this much when it is just the two of us. I picked two out of many since it’d be a waste if I chose to eat a little from all.
“Amy” I muttered. Alpha Damon raised his head to look at me. “What about her?” he questioned.
“I haven’t seen her since morning. How is she doing?” I asked. He wouldn’t get mad because of this, right? I am not trying to pry into his life, either.
“She was taken to her grandparents’ house yesterday, and she is fine,” he replied, focusing back on his food. Claire slept in the Alpha’s chamber yesterday. Of course, she wouldn’t have been able to look after Amy.
I scoffed as the thought of Alpha Damon in bed with Claire filled my mind.
He treated the mother of his daughter nicely yesterday and he is having lunch with me alone today. Alpha Damon sure knows how to be fair.
“Let me clarify something,” he mentioned. “I do not have a child with Claire. Take those thoughts out of your mind,” he elucidated.
My eyes dilated out of perplexity. “What?” I clamored.
“Do you not understand what I just said or do you want me to repeat myself?” he said with an eye roll. “Amy is like a daughter to me but I didn’t birth her,” he added.
My hands flew to my mouth on their own accord. If Amy wasn’t his daughter, why did he give me the impression of her being both his and Claire’s?
“So whatever is running through your mind is not true. I do not have to explain anything to you,” he said with a tone of finality.
For some minutes, I was lost in thought. If he is not the father of Amy, who is? I shook my head to distract myself from getting curious. It has nothing to do with me.
After learning the truth, I couldn’t describe the exact feeling I was having. Happiness? Sadness? Or something else?
My eyes moved up to Alpha Damon, and I noticed that he wasn’t eating. His right hand clung to the table while running the other hand through his hair aggressively.
There was a painful expression on his face that was already covered in sweat within just a minute. “Are you okay?” I panicked.
I abruptly stood up from my seat, finding myself beside him. I thought he choked on the food and decided to hand him some water with my shaky hands, but he pushed away it.
Alpha Damon gnashed his teeth together in an attempt to suppress his pain as he stood up. I tried supporting him, but I balked at his impulsively impersonal voice.
“Don’t touch me!” he warned with a low groan. “Are you okay?” I asked again but got no response for a few seconds. His next words threw me off guard, instinctively adding to my fear.
“Get out!”
