I glanced at Claire and then at Zania, who nodded her head at me. Without uttering a word, I began moving towards Claire, who was already walking out of my room.
She was mad. I could tell from the way she spoke to me earlier and the way she was walking away. I couldn’t keep up with her pace.
Claire is tall. She is a beautiful definition of a perfect creation. I am nowhere compared to her with my short legs.
“Are you stupidly this slow or you are trying to make me talk?” Claire flared. She stopped and turned to look at me.
How is she expecting her to walk when she is so fast? At least, I know the road to Alpha Damon’s quarters. It doesn’t matter if she gets there before me, but then, I am trying to avoid a lot of things that will bring problems to me.
She is the last person I want to get on her nerves. I know my presence riles Claire up, but there is nothing the both of us can do about it.
I do not have anywhere else to go to and she can’t send me away. “I’m sorry,” I apologized and walked up to her as fast as I could to meet up with her pace.
I let out a deep breath by the time we got to Alpha Damon’s door. Claire entered without knocking on the door. Does she always have the permission to do whatever she likes?
She slammed the door in my face before I could follow her in. For the sake of formalities, I knocked on the door twice before opening it.
Entering the living room, I saw Alpha Damon seated on a chair as he scanned through some papers.
“She is here,” Claire informed. Alpha Damon looked away from the papers in front of him and then at me.
He took in my appearance and nodded his head in confirmation. “You can leave. I will see you later,” he instructed, clearly referring to Claire.
If he had wanted me to leave the moment I came in, he would not have sent for me.
After throwing a glare at me, Claire trudged her feet on the floor and left. Why does she dislike me? I am not competing with her, not when Alpha Damon will choose her over me at any time.
As the door closed and I found myself alone with him, a rush of what-ifs flooded my mind, making my heart thunder.
What if he called me here to scold me or even choke me to death as a punishment for talking about his Luna? If he could kill because of that then, I am no exception.
My wolf growled at my negative thoughts. It could be the case. That’s Alpha Damon’s reputation, but I don’t want it to happen.
As much as I am scared of this giant man seated in front of me, I do not want to believe that he would kill me because of a silly mistake.
“Are you not going to sit?” he asked, raising his brow at me. I hastily sat opposite him, clasping my hands together out of nervousness.
“Can you read?” I looked up at him upon hearing the question he had just thrown at me. Was he not supposed to ask this question a while ago when we were at the reading nook?
Why is he curious about that now? “Yes,” I responded. The only thing I am grateful for is the fact that I could learn how to read and write thanks to Karen’s home teacher.
She didn’t exactly teach me how to write, but she never reported to my uncle that I always hid to listen and write each time she was teaching Karen.
I could read and write by constantly practicing and sneaking to listen to the teacher.
I jolted back to reality as Alpha Damon slightly hit the table in front of us to get my attention.
“What are you thinking of? I didn’t call you here so that you could get lost in your trance, Olivia,” he chastised. I composed myself and adjusted in my seat while muttering a “I am sorry,” to him.
He dropped some papers in front of me, and I looked up at him in confusion. What does he want me to do with them?
He is not going to ask me to do something tedious, right? I am only familiar with the basic act of reading and writing.
“Read,” he urged. “What?” I blurted. His eyes met with mine for a few seconds before shaking his head at me.
“I am asking you to read aloud for me while I write,” he answered. A faint ‘oh’ left my mouth at his explanation. But why did he choose to call me? Wouldn’t he be more comfortable with Claire helping him?
“Claire doesn’t know how to read or write,” he clarified my thoughts. Did I say that out loud?
I wanted to ask why Claire doesn’t know how to read or write when she can do so, but I didn’t, since it has nothing to do with me.
Nodding my head, I picked up the papers and began reading, trying to be as audible as I could. All he did was listen and write.
For an hour and a half, we worked without saying anything to each other. Not until he asked me a question I could not find an answer to.
“You are turning 18 in the next few months,” he broke the silence, but I didn’t reply since that wasn’t a question.
Eight is not a few, though. I have about eight months until my eighteenth birthday. Why is he bringing that up?
“What if you’re not meant to find your mate on that day?” my eyes snapped at him after he made such a statement” My eyes snapped at him after making such a statement.
Is he praying for me not to meet my mate? How can he ask this kind of question? “Not every wolf meets their mates at that age. I was 21 when I met mine,” he said with a shrug.
I stared at him, unable to say anything. The moon goddess has unique plans for everyone. I am certain I will find my mate on my next birthday.
He doesn’t have to be negative about it, or did he ask because he wants to get rid of me? Is he already tired of having me around his tower?
“I will find him,” I replied. That was the only thing that came out of my mouth. “And if you don’t?” Alpha Damon followed up with another question.
After hearing that, I couldn’t help but think about the possibility of not finding my mate. What will I do?
“If you don’t, I will never let you go, Olivia. The only thing that can save you from being mine is if you find your mate, that’s a promise,” he declared.
His statement rang in my ears as my heart thumped loudly. Why is he confusing me with his words? Why do I feel good about his declaration?
