Book:Mated To The Ruthless Alpha King Published:2024-6-5

Sarah was sitting on the floor with her knees drawn to her chest and her left cheek pressed against the solid glass. Everything around her was present in her sight, but her mind failed to take account of it. Just like that time when he had chased her out of the hall in front of all those people, she felt dejected and wronged. It was the first time he had taken her out into the world aside from then, so the moment was supposed to be somewhat sacred…. But honestly, she wouldn’t have made such a big deal out of this had he left her here for the whole day without returning, but the fact that he ran after some damsel in distress and left her behind, was a very valid thing to fuss over.
Which is why she had been searching nonstop for other things to murmur and mull about, things that justified both her jealousy and vexation.
Why would he run after her anyway? In Sarah’s opinion, she wasn’t just a friend judging by the look that took over his face when he saw her… a look that seemed like longing, relief and pain all in one. Damon had never shown so many emotions one after the other.
Sarah frowned, her fingers visibly trembling as her index agitatedly scratched at the tip of her thumb. If someone was to compare them both, she would probably be no match for that Katie girl… so the big question wasn’t who she was, it was who she was to him.
Sarah pondered and pondered then soon, an answer swam into her head within a few minutes but she pushed it to the back of her mind as soon as it came and continued to stare out of space. It was too unbelievable… utterly unbelievable to think that Katie could possibly be his lover. It didn’t look like it and Damon never ever gave her a reason to think so.
Sarah ousted that thought and used that crappy excuse to hold her composure together, but deep inside, she knew that she didn’t reject the thought because it was unbelievable. It was the pain that came with it that made her wary of believing it. Her chest felt as if it was enveloped with hot lava, scourging her enough for her to wince.
And whenever she thought of them both together, the pain got more intense. Sarah wasn’t a werewolf so the reason behind it wasn’t very clear, but she knew for a fact that the pain had something to do with the stupid mate bond they shared and as for the jealousy she was obviously harbouring, she wasn’t sure why it was suddenly plaguing her nor how…. But everything that has something to do with Damon, would be blamed completely on the matebond… including this jealous feeling that was growing inside her. Leave it at that.
Sarah dropped thinking about it all completely and tightened her arms around herself, finally easing her face off the glass. “It’s not like I care anyway.” She mumbled, venom dwelling prominently in her tone. “He can love anyone he wants and run after whomever he wants until he faints! It’s not my business.”
“But it is, Sarah.” A familiar smug voice suddenly came from the left. Sarah knew that he was smirking even before she turned to look at him.
“K-Kevin?” Sarah gasped, her eyes riding from his shoes up to his face. His brown eyes were studying her with sheer amusement, his thin lips quirked up at the left and his blonde hair frazzled as if he had been doing something very arduous before arriving here. “How d-did you g-get here?”
“I bet he hasn’t told you anything about ‘her’.” Kevin said, ignoring both her question and her confusion.
Sarah’s lips parted wider than they had been, her interest immediately getting triggered by his mention of ‘her’. It was by instinct that she assumed that he was speaking of the woman in red. “Her? You mean Katie?”
His lips widened and his eyebrows lifted a bit as an amazed look overtook him… though the amusement in his eyes never left. The longer she stared at him, the more it seemed as if he was mocking or making fun of her. “I’m surprised you even know her name.”
Sarah slid up the wall and stood to her feet, her mouth ready to spring out as many questions as possible. “You know Katie? Who is she? How do you know her? What’s Damon’s relationship with her?”
Sarah didn’t really care how pathetic she might’ve looked by acting so overly curious, but she couldn’t help herself. The curiosity was almost painful… well it was painful to be precise. Perhaps if Kevin confirmed that this woman had very little to do with Damon, the pain in her chest would then immediately go away… hopefully.
But the dislike she had developed for the woman named Katie would probably never disappear.
“Knowing about her won’t do you any good…” He advised bitterly, his voice becoming distraught and his eyes narrowing in what seemed to be accusation. “… especially since you’ve become so fucking fond of him.” His eyes left her face and drifted down to her neck, taking in the sight of the bite mark on her skin. His features immediately blazed with anger. “I told you to wait, Sarah!”
Sarah clutched the sides of her dress with her fingers, her eyes going wide at his sudden change in demeanour. This was the same as last time. He was fine and then he wasn’t. He was calm and then he was angry. After these two creepy encounters, she was getting the feeling that he wasn’t entirely stable in the mind. “D-Did something h-happen to y-you… after I l-left?” She asked hesitantly. She was genuinely concerned and the moment Kevin realized that, a smile blossomed on his face and his initial anger was instantly forgotten.
“As always, you’re still the only person who cares about me.” He crossed his arms over his chest and stepped forward slowly, eyes going pensive as he visibly retracted into his past. “A lot of things happened actually. Firstly, I found my stupid excuse of a family. They were fussy about any and everything and they kept on insisting that I do whatever they said. You know, the funny thing was, I had been living in the wild ever since they abandoned me and there were no rules, nor were there anyone who cared… the only person who stuck by me was you… and yet still, they refused to let me search for you when you went missing.” He snorted, looking as if he still couldn’t believe it up till now. “So when everything got too much, I killed them all and claimed everything they owned. A few days later I met someone, someone who taught me how to gain power and how to survive.” He grinned, lips spreading towards his ears deviously. “And now, it’s finally time to put that power to use… It’s only a matter of time before Damon crumbles to his feet… and at that time, I will take both his throne and his Queen. We will be together again, Sarah. All you have to do is wait.”
Sarah crouched slowly once again, bile threatening to rise up her throat. She was no longer interested in hearing anything he had to say because now, she was certain that being around Kevin wasn’t exactly a good idea. If all that he said was the raw truth, then he was nowhere near sane. That was for sure. From what she remembered, he always ran his mouth about how much he hated his parents for leaving him, but to kill them for something like that could never be justified. Yet, he was telling her so boldly without any source of remorse. And what’s worse, he was claiming that he would take her. To where? How? And why?
They had roamed the streets together but he couldn’t be so simple-minded to think that they’d do that forever, could he? She appreciated that he cared enough to search for her when no one else she did, but that was it. She wouldn’t go anywhere with a psycho like him. She didn’t even feel comfortable speaking with him. All she wanted to do right now, was to run and scream for help until Damon came running. But then again, Damon wasn’t anywhere to be seen, was he?
“Everything’s f-fine. Damon w-won’t hurt me so y-you don’t n-need to w-worry.”
He pulled to a stop two feet away from her, fuming eyes glaring down at her with intensity. “I don’t need to worry?” He chuckled wickedly while sucking on his teeth, annoyed. “Are you saying that you want to stay with HIM?”
Sarah tensed, head ducking between her elbow. She was scared, but what could she do? Every time she took a glance at the employees, they quickly averted their gazes and straightened up. It was obvious that if she begged them to get her out of this creepy situation, they wouldn’t even have the courage to help her.
“D-Damon’s n-not as b-bad as you t-think. He t-treats me w-well now.” She desperately tried to convince him, while hoping and praying that he’d calm down eventually.
But her prayers went completely in vain because Kevin only got angrier. “He treats you well ‘NOW’?” His eye twitched and his fingers balled to form a fist. “What did he do to you?”
Sarah’s head snapped up, the sheer vengeance in his voice signalling a red flag. “N-No. He didn’t d-do anything!”
Despite her words, Kevin didn’t relent. “Tell me what he did to you!” He took one large stride, landing him in front of a cowering Sarah. With his chest heaving, he swooped down and grabbed ahold of her arm tightly, pulling her into a standing position. “TELL. ME. WHAT. HE. DID!” He thundered as he jerked her back and forth.
A shiver of fear wracked through Sarah’s being. Whether or not anybody would help her, Sarah deemed this moment as the perfect time to scream for help. She opened her lips, ready to let out the loudest scream possible…. but in that moment, a deep growl was heard and before she could even blink, a hand grasped Kevin’s throat and rammed him into the glass behind them, forcing him to release her of his hold.
The glass cracked upon the impact of his body and a groan left Kevin’s lips. Sarah gasped, her wide eyes taking in the sight of the newcomer as her heart threatened to burst her chest right open. The look in his eyes was deadly, deadlier than anything that she had ever seen. He had rage like no other, rage that seemed to radiate off his body in tangible waves.
The only man who could carry such intense killing intent….. was none other than Damon Kalesto.
“DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH WHAT’S MINE!”
