Derek and Silver had stayed up late playing games before Silver left for her room. Derek still had to wake up early because of training, but he woke up a bit later than usual because he was tired. By the time he joined the others, they had already started.
Hayden was restless. He had woken up an hour earlier than the others and let his raging wolf out to run, but it was of no use. The wolf refused to be tamed, it refused to settle. It didn’t help that he was just as angry as his wolf. He knew it was his fault for pushing Silver away, but he was still pissed off.
After discovering Silver in Derek’s room the previous night, it had taken a lot of effort to turn away and not do something rash. He had stayed awake waiting for her so he knew when she returned to her room, but he didn’t go to speak to her. He knew she wouldn’t give him the time of day so he didn’t bother. And trying to order her around would only make her more angry.
The second that Derek stepped into the outdoor training arena, Hayden knew. He would have ignored the male’s presence, but that ship sailed when his nostrils flared. Derek still had Silver’s scent on him because he had not taken a shower after they played board games together the previous night. The rage that Hayden was already feeling was instantly multiplied, and it erupted out of him like a volcano. He growled menacingly and pounced on an unsuspecting Derek.
One second, Derek was smiling at Mara and apologizing for being late. The next second, he was spun around and hit so hard he toppled over. Derek didn’t even get a chance to recover before Hayden was on him again. There were gasps of surprise as everyone present watched the scene with widened eyes. They all backed away so they wouldn’t be next on the Alpha’s list because they didn’t know what offence Derek had committed.
“Alpha Hayden will kill him, we need to stop this. Derek needs help.” Mara yelled and moved forward but Carl pulled her back.
“Don’t be stupid, Mara. Look at the Alpha’s eyes, he’s a thin line away from going feral. If you or anyone tries to help Derek, he would see you as a threat to his prey and he will rip you to shreds. ”
“We need to at least try.” Mara sobbed. Suddenly she got out of Carl’s hold and began to run as an idea came into her head.
The last time the Alpha had been almost feral, Silver had somehow calmed him enough for him to snap out of it. So she ran as fast as she could to Silver’s room. Silver was asleep when Mara burst into her room, but she was so tired that she didn’t even stir despite the noise. Mara walked to the bed and began to shake her.
“Silver! Silver, wake up!” Mara’s panicking voice broke through her slumber.
Silver groaned and tried to roll away.
“Tired… need sleep.” Silver mumbled and tried to shoo Mara away with her hands.
“If you don’t wake up, Alpha Hayden is going to kill Derek. You need to help him.” Mara said and Silver’s eyes immediately snapped open, all traces of sleep gone.
“What? How?”
“There’s no time to explain. Come with me, please.”
Silver might have thought it was just a prank, but she could hear the urgency in Mara’s voice. And Mara’s heart was beating faster than normal. The Alpha in her wanted to reach out to comfort Mara, but there were more pressing matters to attend to. She didn’t bother trying to change out of the see through nightwear she had worn to sleep. Nudity meant nothing to wolves. She just followed behind Mara.
Hayden felt so good as his fists rained down blows on any part of Derek he could reach, and his wolf howled in triumph. He had been wanting to do this so badly for days. How dare the male touch his mate? How dare he even look at her? He was unaware of anything else but making sure Derek felt the full force of his anger. Derek was unconscious, but he didn’t care. When he was done with his fists, he would let out his wolf and rip the male to tiny bits.
Someone pushed him off Derek, and he rolled off with a loud growl. Who dared to separate him from his prize? He turned to make the person his next victim, then paused when he saw that it was Silver. His wolf immediately settled and that eased some of his own anger. The rage he felt inside was no longer pressing on his brain like it would explode with the slightest pressure.
“HAVE YOU LOST YOUR DAMN MIND? WHAT ON EARTH IS WRONG WITH YOU?” Silver yelled as she knelt beside Derek’s limp, bleeding body on the ground.
She was relieved when she felt Derek’s pulse, he was still alive. Weak and in pain, but alive. Wolves had quick healing abilities, and could live up to ten times a normal human’s natural life span, sometimes more, except you got killed before your time. The wounds he had now would heal eventually, but if Hayden had killed him, there would have been no coming back from that.
“DON’T FUCKING TOUCH HIM.” Hayden growled at Silver and she scowled at him.
“Don’t yell at me you mad male. You almost killed him.” Silver said to Hayden and then turned to the others that still gave the area where Hayden was a wide berth.
“Don’t just stand there, he needs a doctor. It feels like some bones are broken and he’s losing a lot of blood, it’s slowing down his natural healing abilities.” She wished Margaret was there to help instead. Her healing abilities would have an immediate effect on Derek.
The pack doctor was there in less than a minute and while Derek was attended to, Silver turned to Hayden with a furious expression.
