Part 2 – Chapter 99

Blake
Red.
All I could see was red.
I needed to do it. No. I had to do it.
The demon inside me demanded me to be released. I wanted to sin. I wanted to spill someone’s blood. Carol’s blood.
My Olivia was in a bloody mess because of her. When I grabbed her from the street, her blood was everywhere. Her face. Her arms. Her body.
Carol had to pay for her sin. I didn’t need God to do it for me; I would do it myself. Olivia was hurt because of her and I wanted her to pay it with her blood as well.
An eye for an eye.
“What happened, Blake?” John asked. Right, I hadn’t told him. My mind was too busy thinking about my woman inside the surgery room.
“I went home today with Olivia acted…weird. She was not her usual self. We slept and when I woke up, I followed her. Olivia thought I was sleeping, but I was not. I wanted to know what’s bothering her mind and then…I found my answer. It was all Carol’s doing. It turned out the little bitch was threatening my girl. Asking her to leave me or she would spread the news about us dating to the media. Olivia dared her to do it, me as well. She ran away crying after I mercilessly told her to go away and Olivia chased her. I followed her and then,” I paused, recalling the image. The scene that I refused to see.
“Once I was close enough, Carol pushed Olivia to the street and the car showed up, hitting her immediately. I was grateful because the driver stopped his car or else, he would run her over. I thought my heart had stopped when I witnessed the accident, John. The image of Olivia hit by the car still remained fresh in my mind. She was literally thrown away after the car hit her, straight on her left ribs, and fell to the road. I immediately went to her, ignoring the witch who caused her harm to check on my woman. Her head was bleeding. The bone from her left ankle was practically showing. Bruises on her face. The driver was kind enough to take us to the hospital and once I carried her to his car, Carol was gone already. Probably going back to her fucking daddy to ask his help by erasing the evidence away. But that’s not my concern at that time. My only concern was taking Olivia to the hospital and listened to what the Doctor will say to me.”
I looked at John and he was merely staring at me. He was listening to me. He needed to know everything. I could see he was holding himself back. He hated what he heard. So, I continued. “But now, I heard enough. I had every right to do it. Olivia is alive, that’s a relief. But I lost my baby. The child I was about to meet was murdered because of Carol. I might be able to carry on, but not Olivia. No matter how strong she is, I know when she learned about this, she will blame herself.”
That’s right. I knew Olivia. She would probably think that maybe she was not supposed to meet Carol. Maybe she was not supposed to chase her. Or maybe she was not supposed to love me. Maybe she should just leave me when she had the chance.
I won’t let that. I promised to be her monster. I would do it right fucking now.
I looked back at John. He was ready. He knew what’s coming. “Find her, John.”
“She’s probably has gone out of the country if she’s that scared.”
“I don’t care. I want her and I don’t care how long it’s going to take. I want her to be found and bring her to me. Alive.” It was hard for me to say that. I had to adjust my breath. The demon on my shoulder was speaking louder than before. Kill her, that’s what he said. But I had to hold back for now. But once I had her in front of me, that would be a different story. “I want to help you as well but I have to be with Olivia for a while. Once I could leave her alone, I’ll help you out.”
John shook his head. “You don’t need to do that. I can look for her alone. You should take care of your woman. She needs you now. She’s just lost her baby, Blake. She doesn’t know now but she will. The only person she wants to be with when the Doctor told her the news is you, Blake. You don’t need to worry about Carol, I will find her and bring her to you.” I knew he would.
I went to him and pulled him for a hug. “Thanks, John.” He returned my hug and wrapped his hands around me. John might be working for me, but he was my only friend. I trusted him. He trusted me. I knew John would not betray even disappointed me.
“I’m sorry for your loss, Blake. None of you deserve any of this.”
“I know.” I let him go and looked straight to his blue eyes. “Go home, John. Get some rest. You can go to the office as usual and tell the staff that I’ll be taking leave for a while. Ask the partners or clients who wanted to have a meeting with me to reschedule everything.”
“I will. I’ll grab some of your clothes from your house. I still have your key so I can get in. And I’ll get your car. I’m sure you’ve abandoned it.”
“Thanks. And take Karen home as well.”
We both returned inside to the surgery room. We walked in and found Olivia’s bed with some machines around her. Cindy was holding her hand as now…I could see the result of Carol’s doing. Her head was bandaged. Her left leg was raised. I refused to see her stomach but my eyes betrayed me.
Olivia was supposed to carry my child for the next nine months and she lost it. We lost it. I had to be honest that I was shocked when I learned Olivia was pregnant. Well, I never used condoms before so practically she would end up pregnant whether sooner or later. I was willing to take responsibility and actually…I was excited about it.
But now I had to lose that dream.
Cindy’s eyes found me and she stood up. After kissing Olivia on her cheek, she went to me. I was expecting her to slap me or be mad at me but none of that happened. Instead, she wrapped her arms around my neck. “I’m so sorry, Blake.” She was mourning my loss.
I returned the hug and saw my parents beside Olivia, watching their granddaughter. I never expected them to see Olivia at this state. Mom’s eyes were on me and she walked behind Cindy. She could only smile but it hinted sadness from her soft blue eyes.
It was something that they wanted from me as well. My child. If I had to be blunt, we could try again but not for a very long time. I could lie to Olivia as well. Maybe she had no idea about it. But I couldn’t do it. Not to Olivia. I couldn’t lie to her.
Cindy unwrapped her arms from me and turned to hug our mother. Dad was merely looking at me. All of us were mourning.
In the end, we parted ways. Cindy would return in the morning. John would go to my house to grab my clothes. My parents would stay at Taylor’s house and visit again tomorrow. Once they were gone, the nurses moved Olivia to her room. I got her the VIP room. When I entered her room, she was positioned in the middle. There was a long couch near the window where I could sleep, a long table in front of the patient’s bed with an LCD television hanging on the wall, and a bathroom near the door.
After the nurses were done with Olivia, they excused themselves as I thanked them, and they exited the room. My eyes were on Olivia immediately. I walked towards her slowly, standing next to her, watching her not moving, not making any sound at all.
This was not the Olivia I knew. The Olivia I knew was always full of life, bright, never saw the bad from people even though there was nothing good from them. This was why she chased Carol before. I knew she might be pissed at her but she still thought Carol didn’t deserve to be treated like I treated her.
I’ve told you but since you’re so fucking deaf. You. Don’t. Love. Me. Go find someone to satisfy your pocket and your pussy.
That’s what I told her. Those cruel words. I never felt guilty for saying that. It was true but Olivia being Olivia. She hated it but it cost her. Her life and her baby.
I held her hand as I kneeled beside her. Kissing her hand countless times. “I’m so sorry, baby. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you. I failed you, Olivia. I fucking failed you. You and our baby.” I aware my tears just wet my cheeks. My girl would be fine. Physically but mentally, I didn’t know what would happen.
“I’m going to make things right, baby. This time, I will not fail you. So, please.” I turned to see her injured face with my teary eyes. “Open your eyes, baby. Please don’t leave me. I can’t imagine my life without you. I don’t want to. I promised you that I will be your monster.”
Carol should know something. Whatever I said, I would do it. What I vowed; I would keep it. What I silently thought, I would make it true.
With the determination that I had, “I will do it for you. I will make Carol pay for it.”
