Chapter 88 She looks like me

Book:Mia and Mara Published:2024-5-1

Still at a random street in the country
As Mia beheld the gaze in front of her. She adjusted her glasses as if doubting her eyesight.
Was her glasses faulty or was she just imagining things. The person in front of her looked like another version of her.
It was like looking into a mirror and your reflection bouncing back.
Mara’s eyes also widened in amazement, never had she imagined herself wearing such clothes before not to talk more of putting on glasses.
“Who are you?” Mia slowly spoke as she blinked her eyes slowly.
“I..” Mara wanted to explain but she heard someone scream from behind and she knew she had to make a run for it if she wanted to remain alive.
She pushed Mia roughly as she ran off. Three hefty men in Black which were chasing Mara earlier didn’t even notice Mia who was on the floor and rubbing her injured shoulder.
At Lakshmi’s house
Lakshmi’s POV
“Please wait!!” I yelled as I ran after the lady with my phone in my hand.
“Yes” she gently turned around the moment I got close enough to tap her gently on the back.
“Excuse me…uhrm…I don’t know how to put this but…you mentioned earlier that you saw my brother at the cemetery.
What were you doing there?” I was questioning her just to check if she was lying or not. Though I had strong feelings, I had to be logical like Mia had always advised.
“I went to cry on my husband’s grave” she was avoiding eye contact with me but I didn’t think it was because she was lying but because she was uncomfortable saying that.
“So you are a widow” I held my hand on my waist as if in disbelief.
“Yes” I could see that she was holding back her tears and I felt bad.
“So what exactly did you see him doing?” I asked her again but this time I tried not to sound as harsh as before.
“He also came to cry…he also dropped some flowers on the grave of a particular woman” she confessed.
“How did you know he was crying over a woman?”I just couldn’t stop with my questions.
“I saw him hugging a picture while crying. Looking at the picture I am guessing that she was his mother or someone very close to him” the lady explained so innocently.
“Ok then I would like to…” I was interrupted when my phone rang unexpectedly. I was about to pick up the call but then the phone went off.
“You will have to find a way to come meet me here again but you just have to ask the security if my dad is around first and if he tells you he is then you should go back.
Do you have a pen and paper there with you or maybe your phone?” I asked her as she scrambled through her handbag.
“I don’t have a phone but I do have this small notebook” she handed me a pen and a book.
I immediately wrote my phone number on it before I waved her goodbye. Goddess Shiva please let this news be true so my family can smile again” I prayed to the goddess as I looked up to the sky before I went back inside.
At Mara’s house
“You are back early?” Mara’s mum was surprised as she saw her daughter sweating.
“Yes” Mara wiped her sweat with the back of her palm and joined her mother in the kitchen.
Mara washed her hands as she looked very worried and scared.
“What is wrong Mara?” Her mum couldn’t help but ask.
“Nothing” she shook her head and dried her hands with a towel and tried to give off a convincing expression.
“Mara” her mum suddenly called out to her.
“Yes mum” she smiled at her mum as she caressed her mum’s face. Though she tried to hide it, she too was feeling some kind of uncertainty.
“Mara I saw your picture” her mum let out a deep breath.
“Mum you have my pictures everywhere in the house” Mara shook her head as if her mother just said something very silly.
“No, I am not talking about that. I saw your picture somewhere else…I saw your picture in the least place I expected” her mum continued to speak and this time she had gotten her daughter’s attention.
“And where could that possibly be. If it’s on a billboard then we have to go and get our money from them. It isn’t easy being famous yuuno?” Mara kept on blabbing and her mum just shook her head horizontally at the gullibility of her daughter.
“No Mara. I saw your photo on the phone of a girl.. she is some rich man’s daughter. Do you know her?” Mara’s mum went closer to her daughter as she took Mara’s hands in hers.
“Mum…how will I know if I know her or not? You didn’t even tell me her name” Mara was quite surprised herself.
“That’s true…but I also don’t know her name” Mara’s mum let go of Mara’s hand as she scratched her head.
“Maybe you were just seeing things. It may not be me. I am tired now…I have to rest mum” Mara kissed her mum goodnight as she retired to her bed.
Mara’s POV
Who was that girl and why can’t I stop thinking about her? Why does she resemble me so much? Are we related? Should I ask mum?
No I think I shouldn’t because if I had a twin sister my mother would have told me long before now.
But I am sure that her resemblance to me isn’t just a coincidence…it could be but the chances of such a coincidence happening in real life is very low.
Hmmn…she might look like me but she seems very different, she dresses very differently and she looks quiet and shy. She even puts on glasses so maybe she might be smart…I guess…but I’m also smart. I squeezed my face.
Could she be the one mum was talking about? Could it be that mum saw her picture and thought it was me?. I have so many questions but yet no answers.
