94. It was Mama Philips who took daddy Smith to the hospital and made sure that he was given anything and everything that would make him well.
Mama Philips was forever indebted to the family who brought up Macy to be the girl she was.
Even if she didn’t know everything that Angela had done, she didn’t like the girl because something always told her that Angela was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Remembering this, Macy didn’t even wonder why Kyle would refer to Angela as that woman.
She was that woman to them because she wasn’t family.
Ever since Macy came back, she was able to give the Smiths a better life by building a better house for them and buying the sheep papa Smith always wanted to rear for wool and more chicken for Mama Smith and built a better coup for her.
Her brother wanted to do automotive engineering in the George Washington University and Macy had promised to make it possible as long as he made the GPA to get enrollment.
“I am fine Tiger. You don’t have to worry.
Tell mom and dad that I am good and I have good news for them and I will come to visit once I get a chance,” Macy said feeling emotional.
She always felt guilty for the way she left the Philips because she thought that she would have a better life in Washington DC.
Just like any other teenager, she hadn’t really thought it through and she was in love and just wanted to be near her family.
“You tell them yourself,” Kyle said as he handed the phone to his mother and Macy heard that voice that used to sing lullabies and nursery school rhymes for and with her.
“Macy baby?” Her Mama called with tears and Macy could tell due to her voice.
Macy was sure that her mother had been crying.
“Mama, why are you crying? Didn’t we agree that you would take care of yourself?” Macy asked the older woman.
“What have they done to you baby? Mama is just worried.
Your papa is here too and he wants us to come and see you,” Mama smith said and Macy was touched.
“Papa?” Macy called through the phone.
“Crocodile, how are you?” Her father greeted.
“I am okay but I also want to see you.
I wanted to wait until I finish up some things so that I can come but if you want to come, I can arrange it.
Though you don’t have to because I am okay. I promise I am well.
But also, there is someone I would like you to meet,” Macy said.
“If you are okay, we will wait for you to come.
But don’t hesitate to tell papa if you need anything. Okay?” Papa Smith said and before Macy could answer, her brother interjected.
“But I want to come to DC and visit some places,” he complained.
“You will Tiger. Just wait until I have time.
Take care of Mama and Papa for us, okay?” Macy said with tears as she felt the warmth of family, something she never got from her real parents.
“I will. Take care. Love you,” Kyle said and her parents threw in words of affection and Macy did the same and then hung up.
That was the life she wanted with her family but the Philips saw her as a disappointment.
She had always craved for their approval until she couldn’t take any more and now, they were no longer her family.
“Are you okay?” Richard asked her bringing her back.
She had forgotten there for a while and she smiled at him.
“Just a little emotional. I miss them,” she said and sighed.
“Sometimes I feel guilty towards them seeing how I left them but…” she didn’t finish but Richard could picture it.
She must have been excited to meet and live with her own family but it didn’t turn out as she wanted.
“I have an answer to your question but before that, I want a genuine answer to just one question,” she said and looked at Richard.
He was focused on driving but he looked at her and mm-ed his consent.
“Why me? Of all the women you could have asked to marry you, why me?” She asked him and he looked at her at length until she had to remind him to watch the road.
“Honestly, there isn’t a particular reason except that I love you and want to be with you,” he said simply hoping that she won’t ask a lot of questions.
There were a lot of reasons he wanted to be with her and he wanted to tell her after they found their son.
“Also, Mel loves you and you are the first person to treat her nicely.
Honestly Macy, I wanted to monopolise you since the first time I saw you but you were too scared of me and I wanted you to grow used to me.
I… “he wanted to say more but realised that he had said too much and looked at her.
“I hope that answers you,” he said and waited for her to speak.
“It’s just that… by now you know that I am not pure and I had a child and you still want to be with me?
I even don’t know who I slept with.
I feel… dirty. I really…” she said and she was downcast.
As she was speaking, she didn’t realise him parking the car at the side of the road.
By the time she realised that they were stationery, he was leaning towards her.
She didn’t give her any time to react or think as he claimed her lips.
She felt the soft lips brush against hers and her brain ran away and she couldn’t think.
She was so surprised that she gasped and that gave him the access he wanted.
He thrust his tongue into her mouth and she was out of breath but she dared not breath.
She didn’t know how to react because this… this was Richard.
She didn’t know what to do in such a situation and she just sat there and allowed him to do as he wanted.
She didn’t respond, neither did she move away and she dared not breathe.
He moaned into her and that made her body jolt.
She felt her lips move even without her permission and she was kissing him back before she knew it.
That was all the encouragement Richard needed as he held her neck and pulled her closer.
Macy allowed him to control her head and he angled her in a way that he had full access to her face.
After kissing for two minutes or so, he was the first to draw away.
He could hold his breath for four minutes but he wasn’t sure about her and he didn’t want to scare her this early into their relationship or even make her lose consciousness due to lack of oxygen.
“Macy, he spoke as he held her head in between the palms of his hands and looked straight into her eyes. “I love you and I don’t care about how many men you have been with.
All I care about is that it’s me you will be from the moment you say yes to me.
So, never call yourself dirty.
You can never be dirty because if there is anyone to be blamed, then it’s Angela and she is the one we should call dirty,” he said and then even without wanting to, tears started rolling down her cheeks.
She has never been looked at by a man in the way Richard was looking at her nor had she been told such a thing.
She felt touched and all the emotions she had been hiding deep down came pouring out and she did the only thing she knew how to alleviate the longing.
Macy was the one to kiss Richard this time.
She lifted her head and claimed his lips.
She was in love and she knew it though she kept pretending otherwise.
She kept telling herself that she could live without Richard and Mel but she now realised that they had grown under her skin and they were a part of her.
She kissed him, dominating the kiss and Richard wanted more.
He stretched his hand and unbuckled her seat belt and lifted her and before she knew it, she was on his lap.
She made herself comfortable by straddling him and they hadn’t broken the kiss even after all the movement.
They broke the kiss after a long long while and Macy felt awkward seeing where she was and Richard spoke.
“Now that I have kissed you, I naturally have to take responsibility,” he said and Macy smiled without saying anything.
She got up from his lap and sat well in her seat and buckled up.
“Let’s go find our son,” Richard said as he ignited the car again.
Macy was already sold but she couldn’t tell him right then.
A girl’s gotta take her time, doesn’t she?
