93. The only proven way of knowing whether a child belongs to someone or not is through comparing their DNA strands and if they have a more than ninety percent similarity then it is said that the chances are very high.
But traditionally, this was done through comparison of some body features.
Take for example the way Macy looked exactly like her mother to a point that her Nana knew she was of the Philips blood at first sight.
Macy and Richard were on a mission.
Since Macy was now sure that her boy was alive, she vowed to turn the world upside down until she found him.
On the other hand, May and Cash were busy looking at the phone that showed the exact location of Angela.
Angela thought that she had hidden to the ends of the world and that no one would be able to find her but how wrong she was.
Nevertheless, Macy and Richard were on their way to where their intelligence told them Doctor Maxwell used to reside.
Macy’s heart was on her throat as she did not know what to expect.
“You look unsettled. Are you okay?” Richard asked her as he drove.
Richard could have asked any of his men to do this for him but he chose to do it himself.
This was his son and he couldn’t leave Macy to do it all alone. She needed both emotional and physical support and she would be there for her.
“I am nervous.
For almost seven years, I believed that my baby died and that it was a girl. I even have a sepulchre for her.
To think that for six years I have been grieving and crying over another person’s baby.
I don’t think that Angela deserves even death.
Killing her would be too merciful,” she said qnd Richard just patted her shoulder in assurance.
If only Macy knew the plans he had for Angela.
As they were talking, her phone rang.
She had turned it on after Richard had configured it to only connect the calls from the numbers she had saved in her phonebook.
She looked at the caller ID and it was her little brother.
The Smiths had two children: a boy and girl.
Macy was the girl and there was a boy. Of Macy was close to anyone, it was her brother Kyle.
Even after they found out that Macy wasn’t a Smith, the two remained close.
So, Macy picked the call with a smile.
“Hey little Tiger?” Macy greeted.
“Hey Crocodile, are you okay?” Her brother asked with worry in his voice.
“I could not call you yesterday because I did not have airtime.
I had to coerce dad to buy for me today.
Why did you call me?” Her brother comallined but Macy played dump.
“Call you for what? Aren’t you in school? We have ckeared this year’s fees, isn’t it?
I told you I will start looking for an apartment here once you get to the university you want.
I am well and not sick, why would I call you?
Or are mom and dad not doing well?
But seeing that dad gave you money today it means all is well. So, why would I call you?
I don’t even miss you,” she talked withiut giving her brother time to speak hoping that she would distract him from what he wanted to ask.
“Crocodile, you bought us a tv, remember? You even bought me a laptop and connected me to the wi-fi, remember?
And I watch social media and we saw what that woman did to you.
How can she even live with herself after that?” Kyle asked and Macy felt bitter bile in her mouth when she recalled what Angela did to the ones who were supposed to be her family.
When Macy left the Smith family hoping to be near Andy and her own family, it was obvious that Angela wasn’t happy.
But Macy who had been brought up to see the good in people always, did not see it as she was hoping that since Angela and her shared parents, they would grow close like the sisters they were supposed to be.
But shit happened and Macy found herself losing contact with anyone as she tried to survive in Africa and then in China.
During this time, her father fell ill.
He had a tumour in the mouth and needed an urgent surgery and the only person they could think about was Angela since they didn’t know how to contact Macy.
So, Kyle was sent from Connecticut to DC by train using the little money the fakioy could afford.
In fact, they raised the money by selling the chicken Macy had bought for her mother to rear for meat and eggsa.
When Kyle got into DC, he did not even know where the Philips residence was neither did he have any number he could call.
Since Angela learnt that she was a Smith and not a Philip, she only visited them once and she was forced by old Mrs Philips.
After that, she never talked to them again or even kept in contact.
The Smiths, however, were happy that she didn’t because when she was with them, all she did was criticize their situation.
She couldn’t even sleep at home and rented a hotel room.
She kept telling them how dirty they were and how much they smelled.
“Why use firewood to cook? Can’t you afford gas?
You smell like smoke.
And what’s with the black pots?
How do you people survive in this filth?
I am eveb surprised that winter hasn’t killed you people,” those were the things she would say that made then hate her evn though she was one of them.
So, when Kyle landed in DC, he entered a cyber cafe and searched for the Philips and as given, the information was all over.
So, he learnt where the company was and even where they lived.
He decided to start with the company since it was near where he was and he would just walk.
When he got there, he was surprised to find out that one couldn’t see the top management without and appointment and too see Director Angela, he had to wait for two weeks for an opening.
He didn’t know that it would be that hard and the receptionist even laughed at him when he said that he was her brother.
“Oh, come on. We have seen beggars like you who come here hoping for charity but you are the first one to claim that you are a family member of the Philips,” one had said amidst laughter.
“Boy, we know her family and you, are not,” another added.
Faced with such criticism, Kyle was forced to go to the Philips residence.
It was a long journey because he couldn’t afford a taxi and the bus left him far from the residence.
He wondered why the rich had to live so far away from civilization and inside forests.
He walked while his stomach complained and he ate the bread and water his mother had packed for him as he walked.
It took him an hour to get to the residence and there were armed guards at the gate.
He introduced himself and told them that he was there to see Angela.
“And who are you?” One of the two guards asked.
“Tell her it’s Kyle, her brother,” he said and they have him a seat as they called the house.
Angela was there withing ten minutes but she was not happy.
“What the hell are you doing here? And who the fuck is your sister?” Was her greeting to the young boy who wasn’t even seventeen and who had travelled miles to get there.
She didn’t even want to know whether he had eaten or if he had rested or even why he was there.
“Sister…” Kyle began but Angela slapped him.
“I told you not to call me that. I am an only child of the Philips family and don’t have any siblings.
Now, go back to where you came from and never show your face to me again,” she had told him and left.
He was left there standing, flabbergasted not believing what had just happened as tears fell down his cheeks.
He didn’t even bother wiping them since he didn’t even know that he was crying.
He apologised to the guards and turned to leave and that was when he was almost hit by a vehicle that was coming in and the driver didn’t expect to see anyone walking there since it was a private residence.
Mama Philips was startled when the driver breaked all of a sudden and she followed the driver out to see who had the audacity to almost cause an accident.
That was when she was met with the cryig face of young Kyle and she was surprised.
“You… you are Kyle, Macy’s brother, right?” The old lady asked and that was when Kyle looked up and saw the kind grandma he had grown to like.
“Grandma?” He called as he hugged her.
“It’s okay. Tell grandma what’s wrong.
There, there, stop crying and let’s go home,” she said and the boy stiffened when she heard that and Mama Philips noticed.
She knew that the boy must have met Angela and it didn’t go well.
“How about a hotel? We can talk as we eat.
Okay?” She asked and he nod his head and she took him into the vehicle and instructed the driver to turn around.
