Book:Alpha’s Regret: Chasing My Rejected Mate Published:2024-6-4

“Yes Ruby, I’ll be taking a break from work. I need to take care of my cousin till he’s better, can you step in for me in the meantime?” Emily says over the phone.
“Yes, ma’am. I wish your cousin a speedy recovery,” Ruby replies.
“Thank you.” Emily hangs up, feeling relieved that she won’t have to stress herself at work and home.
She takes her bath quickly, putting on a casual outfit. Her plan today is to visit the injured recruits in the hospital. After all, they are like a family to her too. Since Jax is too preoccupied with his healing process, she takes it upon herself to do the visitation for him.
She has already contacted Nathan, the pack’s doctor, telling him about her visit to the hospital. Nathan is pleased and is already standing by the front door with a welcoming smile on his face.
“Miss Emily, it’s an honor to see you here,” Nathan greets her wholeheartedly.
“Thank you for honoring my request, Nathan.”
“A pleasure, miss. Should I show you the way?”
She nods and follows him inside the hospital. It is her first time visiting this hospital and she must admit that the hospital is bigger than the one in Louis’s pack, Moon bearers pack has good resources. Nathan leads her to a smaller room where she can see the injured recruits on their beds, some are getting better while others are worse.
Freya flares in anger when she sees Emily coming in graciously as if she did not know that she had snatched her man. Her partner nudges her again and gestures to Emily’s smiling face ahead.
“That’s the beta’s girlfriend…”
“I know,” Freya snaps at her partner. Just because she does not know the latest rumors doesn’t mean that she doesn’t know who Emily is, her fingers clench as Emily clears her throat to address them.
“Good morning to the honorable pack warriors of Moon bearers pack. As most of you know, I am Emily Cruz, Alpha Jax’s cousin. I came here to know the progress of everyone and I will be relating to Jax about the results due to his critical condition,” Emily introduced herself and her purpose for coming here.
“Hold on, didn’t the beta come here yesterday for the same thing?” Freya’s partner whispers.
Freya hisses loudly in response, Emily hears the loud hiss but ignores it. She goes ahead to meet each person one by one, she makes sure to write down any information they have about themselves.
Freya watches with keen interest, she begins to compare herself to Emily.
Emily is a potential star – no doubt. Her blonde hair is packed in a bun while her spotless face radiates a rich color, her clothes are expensive even though they are casual wear and her aura is bold. She is a woman every man wants to have and is the reason why Conrad fails to notice Freya.
Freya on the other hand is a teenager, with red hair and dirty acne on her face. Her dress is less appealing and cheap, and her red hair is rough and slowly losing its texture. She did not even smell nice at least and her body was covered with bruises that formed a scar after healing.
She and Emily are two different people. If any man is asked to choose, he’ll pick Emily right away. But Freya is still mad at Emily for robbing her of a chance to get a better life, Conrad would have changed her life if he had an idea that they were mates.
However, Freya has agreed that with Emily out of the way, she’ll be able to have her way with him. Dealing with Emily will skyrocket her life into a paradise and that is what Freya wants.
“Freya, what are you thinking about?” her partner says a little bit louder.
She jerks out of her imagination only to see Emily standing in front of her with curious eyes. Emily recognizes her as the girl that hissed when she introduced herself.
“Hello, Freya. How is your health now?” Emily asks politely.
Freya snorts, “Does it look like I’m fine?”
“I’ve checked your medical records and your health records are clean, this means that your condition is better but I only want to confirm for…”
“For Alpha Jax, yeah we all know that,” Freya snaps.
Emily is stunned by how rude Freya is, she does not recall having any beef with anyone here let alone a teenager. Freya’s attitude towards her means that the young girl might be harboring ill feelings towards her, Emily thought that Freya might be envious of her position.
“Freya, how old are you?” Emily had to ask.
“Nineteen.”
“That says it all. You’re nineteen and I’m twenty-five, I think you should have some respect for me. I didn’t come here to exchange words with you, Freya. If you’re having daddy issues, deal with it!”
Freya shuts her mouth immediately, and Emily smirks victoriously. Knowing that this is exactly the best way to deal with problematic teenagers, she stands on her feet and smiles broadly at everyone in the room.
“I’m glad that this visit turned out well. See you all again,” she announces her leave.
“Wow, Miss Emily, you put that problematic girl in her place,” Nathan applauds her boldness.
“She deserves it.”
“I agree with you. Even yesterday, I saw her arguing with the beta when he came to visit,” Nathan says.
Emily is taken aback, “Conrad came here? Did you overhear what they were arguing about?”
“Unfortunately, no.”
Emily sighs and nods, why did Conrad hide this from her? When she saw him yesterday, he looked sad before burying his head on her shoulder. Was it connected to the problematic teenager?
It doesn’t make sense to Emily. She returns to the pack house with unease, something did not feel right about all this. She goes to check on Jax first, he is in his room with Conrad. His voice is sounding much better than before – a sign of good recovery.
When her eyes meet Conrad’s, she looks away immediately. Emily muffles a greeting to them and heads to her room, Conrad and Jax exchange glances.
“Did you upset her?” Jax asks suspiciously.
“No, we are good. I should probably go after her,” Conrad says and rushes to meet her before she enters her room.
“Emily!” he calls her.
She stops but keeps her back turned on him, “What?”
“Did I do something wrong?” he queries.
She turns around and folds her arm, her eyes suddenly flare in anger as she recalls how rude Freya was to her earlier.
“Did you go to the hospital yesterday?”
Conrad gulps nervously, did Emily find out about Freya?
“Yes, I did.”
“Why didn’t you tell me? And I learned that you were involved in an argument with someone, you should have told me so she would be punished. She’s so problematic!” Emily exclaims.
Conrad sighs in relief, Emily doesn’t know about Freya yet.
“Relax, my love, she’s just a teenager.”
A teenager that is beginning to give him sleepless nights.
