Book:Alpha’s Regret: Chasing My Rejected Mate Published:2024-6-4

Emily’s heart softens when Conrad buries his face on her shoulder, this signifies that she is his source of comfort. She patted his back softly, she did not know how else to comfort him. Conrad sighs, everything that has happened with Freya is still fresh in his mind. He is finding it difficult to let go of her, but why?
Emily mistook his sadness to be because of what to Jax, and she decides to offer some words of encouragement to him.
“Jax will be alright, okay? He’s wounded and pained now but he will get better soon,” she says.
When Conrad realizes what Emily is thinking, he quickly breaks the hug. He gulps nervously as he stares into her brown eyes, he is short of words to say.
“Emily, I…”
“You don’t have to say anything. I know that feeling so well, I’ve been there before. Right now, the responsibilities of the pack are rested on your shoulders until Jax feels better. I don’t like the idea of him doing strenuous things while in pain.”
Conrad nods his head, “I will be honored to do this for him.”
Emily pats his shoulders again before going inside. Conrad’s mind wanders off to Freya’s pained face when she speaks about him and Emily in a relationship, why she is so interested in him?
Conrad shakes his head, he is suddenly determined to get to the root of this mystery about Freya. He is not going to let her go until he finds out why she is attracted to him and why he keeps thinking about her.
Emily goes back to Jax’s room to find him standing next to the window, he is staring into the open space. Emily is concerned about what he might be thinking so deeply about, she clears her throat to get his attention first.
“Em, you’re here,” he says when he turns to see her.
“Is something bothering you?” she asks with concern.
“Why do you ask?”
“You look so distracted a moment ago as if your mind is taken away by something unless it’s about someone.”
The blush on his face gives Emily a hint that she is right, Jax was thinking about someone.
“Could it be a woman?” she teased him.
“Oh gosh, stop it. You’re so nosy,” he scoffs playfully and goes to sit on the couch. Emily follows him with a smile plastered on her small face, she is glad that Jax has finally met a woman he can think about.
“So tell me, what is she like?”
Jax sighs softly, he knows that he can’t hide this from Emily for long. Besides confiding in her will help him a lot in navigating his thoughts and how he feels, he believes that Emily will be a good advisor to him.
“It’s about the person who saved my life from the rogues,” Jax begins.
“Oh, a woman saved your life,” Emily mutters, correcting herself for thinking that it was a man.
“Yes, her name is Iris and she lives in a small cave. She is not friendly and told me that there was a reason why she saved my life,” he explains.
“Did she tell you the reason?”
Jax shakes his head, “She said that I’ll find out for myself when the right time comes. I’m only hoping that it’s a safe reason.”
Emily giggles like a small girl confessing to his crush, “I think you are developing feelings for this woman. Jax, you are in love!”
“I can’t fall in love with her, Em.”
“Why not?”
Jax takes a heavy breath in then slowly releases it, “Because she is a rogue, a group of ferocious and hungry wolves that only cause trouble. She might have helped me to escape but that won’t guarantee me that she won’t rebel against me in future.”
“First of all, Jax, you have to put your reason aside. Because Iris is a rogue doesn’t mean that you can’t fall in love or be together, remember that the moon goddess has a reason for everything. Maybe your love story will reunite rogues and packs, bringing peace to us…”
“Emily, it is impossible,” he cuts her off.
She stands abruptly, “Jax! I believe that you and Iris are meant to be together, don’t run away from your destiny cause if you do, it might not end well for you. I think it is high time we settled our differences and reunited ourselves in peace.”
Jax shakes his head. Emily’s words may sound simple but it is hard to accomplish, the rogues and packs are not ready to be reunited. Rogues are more like outlaws, people who have gone against the rules and then denounced as members of a pack. This is why rogues harbor so much hatred for packs and cause trouble at unnecessary times.
He might have fantasized about Iris but even the moon goddess knows that they’ll never be together, their worlds will never collide and he swears on that. All he has to do is to make a replacement to enable him to forget about Iris and what better way for that than getting married?
Declaring his Luna and starting a family with her is the best way to forget a forbidden romance before it begins. He will make the announcement soon after forming his council of advisors and he will relate the matter with them.
“Emily, Iris, and I will never cross paths again,” he says finally.
“But fate…”
“I have decided to get married soon and be rid of any indecent thoughts of her.”
Emily looks at him like he is out of his mind, “Do not make decisions you’ll end up regretting, Jax.”
But Jax is not going to listen to her, his mind is already made up. To him, this is the best thing to do. He feels that there will be no consequences for his actions, Emily seeing that he is not ready to listen to her pleas leaves him alone.
Her mind rewinds on how she and Louis ended up. Things might evolve the same way and Jax will have to break another’s heart for his mate, it would have been best to avoid it altogether.
As the evening sun approached fast, Emily stood on the balcony in sadness. She is thinking about Louis, wondering what he might be up to at that moment.
Did he ever attempt to look for her?
