Book:Alpha’s Regret: Chasing My Rejected Mate Published:2024-6-4

The pack hospital is overcrowded with injured patients, and Conrad is confused at first about how to find his way around. But a nurse approaches him with a broad smile on her face.
“Beta Conrad, it is an honor to see you here. Are you here to see Doctor Nathan?” she asks.
Conrad clears his throat, realizing that he is being recognized as a public figure. It will be easier to find out where the injured recruits are as the nurse looks willing to attend to them.
“I’m here to see the injured recruits from the northern border,” he says.
“Why?” she asks then widens her eyes as she realizes that the question came out too personal.
Conrad is a bit shocked to hear her ask him that, he doesn’t want anyone to know that he is here to see Freya. It will arouse suspicious rumors and might destroy his relationship with Emily, but he badly needs to see her because he is worried about her well-being.
The nurse corrects herself after realizing her mistake, “I’m sorry to have asked such a stupid question. Of course, you are here to check on them because it is your duty as a beta.”
Conrad is relieved that her mind has deviated from any rumors and is centered on his duty as a beta. He sees this as a perfect excuse to give and cover up his main reason for coming here, he can also tell this to Freya so she doesn’t think that he came to her for special reasons.
“Yes, I was sent here by Alpha Jax to find out how the injured recruits are doing and to record their progress so far. At this point, there is no need to worry Doctor Nathan about my visit here,” he says.
She smiles broadly, “Very well then, let me show you the way.”
She leads him to a smaller room where the occupants are, Conrad is disappointed that it is not a private room. How will he speak with her alone?
Immediately Freya saw him coming in, she knew he was there for her. Has he finally changed his mind and decided to accept her? Is he aware now that they are fated mates and are meant to be?
Her insides trembled as his scent hit her nostrils, a scent that she had been longing to inhale for a long period. Her partner nudges her and whispers in her ear.
“I wonder why the beta is here, he hardly involves himself in this kind of issue.”
Freya blushes shyly, her eyes glimmer with a new hope that she will not be going back to the northern border again.
“But news about his relationship with the Alpha’s cousin has traveled fast, I guess he intends to marry her.”
Hearing those words, Freya’s heart sinks to the bottom of her stomach. Her blushes vanish in an instant and her eyes become teary, she left and Conrad asked Emily out. How could he do such a devilish to her? Did the moon goddess allow such a bizarre thing to happen?
Her partner chuckles lightly, “Seeing how perplexed you are, that means you are not aware of the rumors. You’re so occupied in your duty that you rarely listen to the latest gossip around.”
Freya is devastated, she makes up her mind to be listening to the latest rumors from now on. If she had known about this before, she would not have been eager to see him again.
“Good day, everyone. I am beta Conrad, I have been sent by the Alpha to check on you all,” Conrad announces to them.
Somehow, Freya suspects that he is lying. She knows that Alpha Jax is badly wounded and will focus on getting better before asking for their wellbeing. Deciding to confirm her doubts, she stands up and limps off to the door. She holds her breath to prevent herself from inhaling his scent as he limps out, and then she stands in the empty corridor to see if he’ll come out in a few minutes.
Conrad, on seeing that Freya is no longer in the room, listens to a few responses and hastily leaves the room. He is surprised to see her standing in the corridor and staring back at him with angry flames in her eyes.
“Hey…”
“You!” she cuts him off, “I knew that you came here to see me. You are so f***king bad at acting.”
Conrad looks around the corridor first, he speaks after he has confirmed that they are alone.
“Stop raiding your voice, Freya. Someone might hear you,” Conrad scolds lightly.
Freya scoffs ridiculously at his childish manner, “Are you scared that someone will see us and spread a rumor about us?”
Conrad is taken aback by her sudden outburst, “What do you mean by that?”
“You wouldn’t want me to be the reason for your failed relationship with Emily, isn’t that right?” she folds her arms tightly under her bosom.
“My relationship with Emily is none of your business, I’m only here because I was concerned about your safety after I heard about the attacks on the northern border,” Conrad says coldly. He is beginning to regret coming here to see her.
“Why are you concerned about my safety? Have you been thinking about me all along or does it mean that you have feelings for me?” She never wanted to raise this topic to him, his actions proved to her that he wanted to do nothing with her, but today, the urgency to talk to him about it suddenly rose in her.
“You must enjoy flattering yourself with such senseless nonsense. I mean how can a beta of high rank have feelings for a mere pack warrior, you should snap out of such stupid imaginations,” Conrad says rudely.
“Then leave!” she orders.
Conrad sighs, he shouldn’t have been harsh to her. Her eyes were reddened and he could see tears forming in them.
“Freya, I’m…”
“Leave, now! I don’t want us to cross paths again,” she says with an air of finality.
She is not going to reject him – not yet. She believes that he will crawl back to her one day and for Emily, her life has just been endangered. Freya is ready to strike a war with her over Conrad, the war has begun.
Conrad simply leaves her there, he blames himself for coming here in the first place. Arriving back at the pack house, he sees Emily standing in front of the door with worry on her face.
“You took so long, I was afraid that something might have happened to you,” Emily says sadly.
Conrad sighed, he didn’t say anything. He only buried his head in her shoulder to soothe his heart.
Why is he feeling pained by Freya’s decision to never cross paths with him?
