Book:Alpha’s Regret: Chasing My Rejected Mate Published:2024-6-4

All through his journey back to his pack, Jax could only think about Iris. He did not take in her entire features but her dark aura still allured him, he wondered why she had so much effect on him. Firstly, she is a rogue – a ferocious one and her people are at war with his pack, he is not supposed to harbor any special interest in her. Secondly, they are at war with each other and sometime in the future, one of them will overthrow the other which means that they are practically enemies. Jax shakes his head sadly, he should try to forget about her or the fact that she helped him. They have nothing in common except the boundaries set between them.
“Take some herbal tea, Alpha Jax. It will help to reduce the pain,” Scar offers to him. She pities Jax, all this wouldn’t have happened if only he listened to her. Somehow, she suspected that things might end up this way thus her reason for declining to join him.
“Thank you,” Jax replies. He knows that he owes her an apology for acting irrationally. After all, she is the gamma and is the right person to decide the matter. He took law into his own hands and it did not end well. Jax clears his throat to get her attention.
“Do you want to say something, Alpha?” Scar asks. Knowing her Alpha well, she knows that he will humbly admit his mistake and apologize for it.
“Yes, I wanted to apologize for my actions that caused all this. I should have listened to you instead of acting on my instincts.”
Scar smiles, “You should have allowed me to do my work as a gamma, your actions made me feel unworthy of my job and you summed it up by threatening to take the title from me.”
Jax sighs tiredly, “I shouldn’t have said all that to you. I don’t mean them and I’m sorry.”
Scar beams proudly as the words tumble out of his mouth, this shows how humble her Alpha is. Alpha Jax has always valued his people more than any Alpha she has met, which is why she never regrets her job as his gamma.
“We can make new plans on how to make peace with the leader of the rogues, that is the only way to resolve this issue,” Scar makes her suggestion again.
“We will start the process once I get better,” he agrees.
Scar is very happy to hear that. Although she is not sure if her suggestion is going to work or not, she still prefers it to attacking them violently, especially after learning that it was their fault.
“What about Eli? It is partially his fault for not telling us the truth when we asked,” Scar reminds him.
“Strip him of his title and punish him severely for misinformation,” Jax replies sternly.
He has made up his mind to attend to issues sternly from now henceforth, administering justice where it is necessary. He has also thought of forming a council of advisors to help in the decision-making of his pack, this will relieve him of the burden he has been putting upon himself.
He never asked to be an Alpha at an early age and while it wears him down, he continuously reminds himself that a good woman will help in building his strength and his pack. What he needs now is a Luna and his new decision is finalized, he will arrange for a Luna from a good high-class family to feel the space.
“We have arrived at the pack house, Alpha Jax,” Scar says to him.
He nods and waits for the servants to bring a wheelchair for him since he can not walk properly for the time being, the pack doctor has arranged the necessary types of equipment for his treatment which is organized in his bedroom. His room has turned into a small hospital room.
He is gently laid on the bed and the doctor swings into action, checking his pulse and temperature first.
“You are fine, we just have to proceed with the treatment for the wounds to heal,” Nathan, the pack doctor says.
Jax simply nods.
“We’ve prepared herbs and routine medicines for you,” Nathan adds.
He takes his medication and the herb is applied to his wounds, then he relaxes on his bed to take some rest. He has been restless all through their journey back home. His dreams seem to not be favoring him at this moment as Iris’s face appears several times, her dark eyes and grim face, the dark aura she emanates, and her stern voice. All this makes him uncomfortable to think about as he stirs up from his deepened sleep.
Emily’s face is what he sees when he opens his eyes fully, she is smiling sadly at him with worry evident on her face. Behind her is Conrad, he too is looking at him with worry.
“Jax, you’re awake!” Emily exclaims happily.
“Are you alright? should I call the doctor?” Conrad asks hastily.
“Calm down, man. I’m fine, I just need water to drink,” he says.
Emily hands him a glass of water and he gulps it down. Thankfully, his thoughts about Iris fade away.
“How did all this happen to you? You told us that you were going to resolve an issue with rogues, how did you end up like this?” Emily asks tears beginning to fall from her eyes.
Jax is hurt to see her breaking down like this, Emily has always cared for him like a sister. He didn’t want to see her cry, she had already cried enough from the heartbreak she had. He wipes her tears with his fingers, wishing that she would stop crying.
“Please don’t cry, Em. I never expected this to happen and it was partially my fault, I should have listened to Scar,” Jax says bitterly.
“The rogues have never taken an issue lightly, you are lucky to be alive,” Conrad says.
“A rogue saved me.”
Both Conrad and Emily gasp in surprise, it is disbelieving to hear that a rogue saved someone who is not from their side.
“It is a relief that you are safe,” Emily tells him.
“It’s quite unfortunate that the recruits were badly injured by the rogues during the series of attacks, it triggered me to hunt for them. I had to order them to be brought to the pack’s hospital and treated properly,” Jax informs.
“Did you see the injured recruits?” Conrad asks.
“Yes, and that red-haired girl was among them. I even spoke with her, she was in so much pain,” Jax says.
Conrad’s heart skips at the mention of this, Freya is badly injured and in the hospital.
“I’ll be back in a couple of hours,” Conrad announces.
He leaves the room, seeing himself as a fool as he walks towards a place where he should not be going right now.
And even if he has to, it shouldn’t be because of her.
