Chapter Fifty
Fiona’s Point of View:
I did a little catching up with Thomas but was still unconvinced by all he told me.
It left me unsettled for a long time and throughout the night.
“I hope Thomas is not trying to do something stupid,” I told myself.
“I wonder if Mother is in good condition,” I thought.
“I would have to keep a close eye on Thomas. There is something suspicious,” I said to myself.
Alexander’s Point of View:
“How was it?” Father asked me.
“How was what?” I asked Dad politely.
“Fiona, how was her first day at work?” He asked again.
“It was okay,” I replied.
“Although she did not do a lot,” I said.
“I asked her to just sit back and observe, for now at least,” I added.
“Sit back and do what?” Father asked, surprised.
“Alex, do you know the gravity of the problem that we have found ourselves in?” he asked.
“We do not have enough time,” he said.
“We are under a lot of tension that you cannot ask her to sit and relax or observe as you said,” Father told me.
“You need to get her to work, immediately,” my father said again.
“Noted dad,” I replied.
“I will do that tomorrow,” I told him.
Fiona’s Point of View:
The next workday, Alexander seemed to have a lot to say.
“The company is going through a lot, and it started after the protest,” he started.
“I need you to find solutions to this problem,” he said.
“The problem we are facing boils down to one thing which is low sales,” he continued.
“Our services are being bypassed a lot,” Alexander told me.
“I trust you can do this,” he finished, and I answered with just a nod.
The financial manager handed over almost everything to me and I only asked for help whenever I got confused.
“Has the company gone through this before?” I asked her.
“Yes,” she replied.
“But it has been a long time since it happened,” she added.
“Okay,” I said.
“Get me all the records,” I ordered her.
“I need to see it immediately,” I told her as she went off.
The financial manager was back in no time with a flash drive device and a handful of office files.
“Here you go,” she said.
“Thank you,” I thanked her, and she went off.
Then I noticed some inconsistencies. The office files were not complete. It looks like a part of it has been torn off, but then the financial manager just left the office.
“What do I do now?” I said till I saw the safe was still open.
“There it is,” I said on seeing it.
“Lawson, what a coincidence,” I said to myself.
“This is Dad’s name,” I told myself.
“This document has my father’s name on it,” I said to myself, reaffirming.
I took the file immediately and hid it in my dress.
“No, Fiona,” I said.
“This would only raise eyebrows,” I told myself.
“I would just take photos,” I replied.
Immediately after I finished, the financial manager was back in the office.
“I think these documents are not complete,” I announced.
“That is the only thing I have access to. I do not think Mr. Harrington would like us to go deeper than this,” she said.
“Okay,” I answered indifferently.
“How long have you been working here?” I asked her, making a smile.
“Since the company’s inception,” she replied, smiling too.
“Wow, that is amazing,” I said.
“You are such a loyal member,” I told her.
“Thank you,” she said.
“Mr. Harrington has been a great help to me if you ask. So, there is no way that I am going to turn my back on him,” the financial manager explained.
“I know, right? That would be a very bad way to pay back such goodness,” I said too.
“This woman is capable of being a stumbling block,” I thought to myself.
“But I will make sure that she is well taken care of,” I told myself.
Alexander’s Point of View:
“Good morning, you sent for me,” the marketing director told me.
“I need you to announce a fifty percent discount sale,” I told him.
“Fifty percent?” the marketing director asked.
“But sir,” the marketing director said before I interrupted.
“Yes, that is exactly what you would be doing,” I said.
“Now, I want you to get back to work immediately,” I instructed.
“This is certainly going to be our breakthrough,” I told myself with satisfaction.
There was still no meaningful sale after two weeks of running a discount sale.
“We are wallowing further in debts,” I said helplessly.
“Dad must not know about this,” I told myself.
“At least, not now,” I added.
Fiona’s Point of View:
“I have waited for so long to see you,” I said as I grabbed my phone.
“Oh, please. I need to understand this,” I told myself, hitting my forehead.
“Wait,” I said immediately.
“It shows that Dad has 70 percent while Victor Harrington has just 25 percent and another person has 5 percent,” I said.
“But then which company is this?” I asked myself.
“It is certainly not the company Dad left with us,” I added confusedly.
“What was the company into?” I asked myself.
“What are they trading?” I asked again.
“Nothing is adding up here. The dates and everything,” I said on seeing the attached invoice receipt.
“This address might help,” I told myself.
“I will go there tomorrow,” I said.
“But do I go there without anyone noticing?” I asked myself helplessly, then I heard a sound from the bathroom.
“Oh my God,” I said as I froze in fear.
“Who…who is there?” I muttered inaudibly.
“Who is there?” I said again as I approached the bathroom.
“Fiona,” I heard Thomas’s voice.
“It is me,” he said.
“And what are you doing in the bathroom?” I asked him.
“Uh,” Thomas started.
“I saw a cockroach and while chasing it, it came right into your room,” he told me.
“What? A cockroach?” I asked him.
“But there are no insects here,” I told him.
“You thought, but I saw it with my own eyes,” he told me.
“Okay. So, where is it?” I asked him.
“Do you want to see it? I thought girls were scared of cockroaches?” he said.
“No, I am not. So where is it?” I asked again.
