Chapter Fifty-One
Fiona’s Point of View:
“Oh…” Thomas stuttered.
“I threw it outside, through the window,” Thomas said.
“Okay, let us take a look,” I told him.
“Oh. Fiona,” Thomas stopped me.
“You just got back from work, and you must be tired,” he said.
“You need nothing but rest now,” he continued.
“Just look at your eyes. They look stressed,” Thomas told me.
“Okay,” I muttered as I went to sit.
“See you later Fiona,” Thomas said, grinning from ear to ear.
“If you need anything do not forget to let me know,” he said as he dashed out of the room.
“Now. I know that there is something fishy about Thomas’s movements and his stay in this house,” I said to myself.
“But I will find out,” I added.
“For now, I will just try carefully and find the hidden secrets in that company,” I told myself.
I went to have my meal because I was so famished, and then I saw Uncle Victor and Alexander having a heated conversation.
“Battle in paradise,” I said, giggling as I walked away without being seen by them.
After my meal, Uncle Victor and his son were still talking, so I decided to stalk.
I stood behind the door to hear everything that they were saying.
“Let us see what the king and his Prince are talking about,” I said silently, and went in their direction.
“You keep making senseless decisions without consulting anyone, and you end up making a mess of yourself,” Uncle Victor said angrily.
“How do you explain all of these?” Uncle Victor said as he showed Alexander a piece of paper.
“I thought it was going to be a good idea since the other company was doing the same thing,” Alexander replied.
“They are implementing such policies in their company because they have made enough already,” he fired back.
“We are still trying to get back on our feet, and do you expect this to work?” He asked.
“A handful of the board of directors is already threatening to leave. Now, what signal do you think this is going to send to them?” Uncle Victor questioned.
“You need to fix this before the end of tomorrow,” Uncle Victor said as he walked away.
“You know what?” he said as he returned.
“I think I will be handling my business from now on while you sit and learn,” he told Alexander.
“You have caused so many troubles already,” Uncle Victor said, and he walked away finally.
“No,” I said.
“This man is trying to destroy my plans, when I have not even started,” I said again.
“I will not let him do that,” I said as I walked away.
Uncle Victor resumes his office the next day, and she tries to reshuffle all that Alexander put in place.
In a meeting that he called, Uncle Victor sat alongside the manager.
“How about Fiona?” The manager asked him.
“Are we going to lay off Fiona too?” he asked.
“Layoff?” Uncle Victor asked.
“No, we need her here,” he replied.
Hearing what he had just said had a soothing effect on me. I was more than happy.
“But you should be careful,” I thought to myself.
Hours later, the meeting ended, and Uncle Victor called me aside.
“I would be relieving you of the financial manager for some time,” he told me, and I felt a little relieved.
“But” he continued.
“She would be coming from time to time to supervise your work, or she can even attend to you when you need her help,” he said.
“But for now, she will be in another department,” Uncle Victor said.
“I would make sure I put more effort into seeing this company work again,” I assured him.
“Yes!” I thought.
“This has to be the best news I have heard in a while. At least, I would have the whole office to myself,” I said happily as we parted ways.
“And I would make sure she spends less time in my space,” I added.
I got to work immediately to solve lingering problems. Not Harrington’s, but my problems.
I then took a glance at the address I had found the previous day when Eleanor called almost immediately.
“What if I get caught?” I asked immediately. I grabbed the phone.
“I know you wouldn’t. You have your way around things,” she said as she giggled.
“I heard they are laying off their staff, the Harrington’s I mean,” Eleanor said.
“Yeah,” I replied, whispering.
“Interesting,” Eleanor said, laughing hysterically.
“Victor Harrington and his son Alexander would try hard but, sadly, they would not be able to restore their past glory,” she added.
“I will call you later so that you do not get caught by your father-in-law,” she said, and we both hung up.
Now I had an issue, and it was how to leave the building.
It felt like all the cameras were watching me.
“What do I do now?” I thought.
“I need to know the specific place this is,” I said as I grabbed my phone.
“Oh wow, it should be nearby,” I said.
I sat in the office for over four hours, then I had to go on break.
“This could be a great one,” I told myself.
I told Uncle Victor that I would love to go get lunch.
“Okay, but be fast about it,” he told me.
“Alright,” I replied.
I was surprised he let me go without any problems or questions.
I got across the road in a jiffy and started asking questions.
I came to the point where the address said, I could not see anything.
They were just stores.
“Do you need help?” I found people asking.
“No,” I said.
“But you have been standing here for a long time. I can guide you,” an old man said.
“Okay,” I finally gave in.
“Finally, here you go,” the man told me.
“Thank you so much,” I thanked him while he left.
It led to a lonely store that was sitting just by itself on the streets.
“I hope I do not get caught,” I said, and I approached the store.
“Hello,” I said as I got in there.
Everything felt super warm.
I could not even do a thing. I had to run outside as I got so scared because I would not want to be seen by anyone or even the Harrington’s.
