Chapter Forty-Nine
Uncle Victor’s POV:
“What do I do now?” I asked myself, pacing to and from.
“Oh God!” I said to myself.
“I think I understand better what Derrick was trying to say,” I told myself.
“But the only rival I had was Lawson,” I thought.
“I would find out about these new people,” I told myself.
“Alexander,” I called.
“I need you to get information about the new people, but I need you to do it on the low,” I advised him.
“I think there is only one standing company offering the same services as us,” I said.
“Why do you need information about them, Dad?” Alexander asked me.
“Or are you trying to partner with them?” Alexander asked me.
“Just do what I asked you to do,” I yelled.
“I am a king. I do not mingle with servants,” I added.
“I am sorry, Dad. I would do exactly what you said,” Alexander replied.
Hours later, Alexander got back with a handful of information.
“So, tell me, what did you hear?” I asked him.
“Dad, that company you asked me to research is making crazy sales,” he said.
“They are currently running a discount sale and buy two get one free,” he added.
“Okay,” I said.
“That is, it?” he asked.
“What do you mean?” I asked him, surprised.
“That is everything I got. That is the whole information,” Alexander said.
“I asked you to get me information about a company and this is all you have got to say?” I asked him.
“I need to know the kind of people who work there, who owns the company, and everything about them and their businesses,” I said yelling at him.
“Oh, Dad. You were not specific about it,” Alexander said.
“But how do I get all this information when I do not work there?” he asked.
“You do not have to work there before you know anything, Alex,” I said.
“Use your head, Alex, use your head,” I said, and I walked away.
Alexander’s POV:
I sat in my room that evening and so many thoughts ran through my head.
I did not know how to go about what my father asked me to do. I did not know who to go to or where to turn to.
“Ken is not here now, he would have been my go-to person,” I said to myself.
Then it struck me.
“What if she is capable of improving the sales?” I thought silently to myself.
“I would talk to Dad about it,” I told myself.
But I had to wait because Dad has been so busy with phone calls recently.
“Do you have anything to say, Alex?” Father asked as he noticed I was standing behind him.
“I was thinking…” I spoke.
“Okay?” Father replied.
“What if Fiona’s presence in the office will be helpful?” I suggested.
“Besides, you sometimes said that she is a very bright and brilliant person,” I reminded Father.
“That is a great idea,” Father told me.
“I think you should bring her on,” Father said, satisfied.
“I will let her know,” I answered.
“We start by tomorrow,” I said and left.
I told Fiona that she would be working in the company from now on and she agreed.
“Anyways, she has to agree, she has nowhere to run to,” I said with a smirk.
I got ready for the next day because I felt things were starting to change.
Fiona’s POV:
“Oh, this came faster than I thought,” I said to myself as Alexander exited my room.
“Oh, Eleanor would be so happy to hear this,” I said happily.
“Alexander and Victor Harrington did not see this coming,” I told myself.
The next morning came much earlier than I anticipated.
“We are looking for ways to make more sales and make our mistakes right,” Alexander told me the next morning.
“But for now, leave that to me,” he said.
“I need you to get familiar with the environment then from there. We get to work,” Alexander added.
Alexander assigned me to work with the financial manager. She was a middle-aged woman who had a warm personality.
“I think working with her would not be an issue,” I said to myself.
“But no one can be trusted, Fiona. Remember what Uncle Victor did to your family,” I thought to myself and shrugged.
The day ended but I did nothing in the office.
I do not know how but Eleanor got information about me working for the Harringtons and she went livid with anger.
“Do they think you are their slave or something?” Eleanor asked me angrily over the phone.
“Did they say anything about paying you?” she asked again.
“No,” I replied.
“I think someone is approaching the room. I will call you back,” I said quickly and hung up.
“Fiona!” I heard my name.
“Thomas,” I replied.
“What are you doing here?” I asked him.
“You left with Mother the other time,” I said.
“Yeah, but I could not have my peace knowing fully well that you were here all alone,” Thomas said.
“Oh but leaving mother all by herself is not a good idea,” I told him.
“She would be fine. Besides, she is not even our mother,” Thomas said, rolling his eyes.
“Do not say, Thomas, she…” I said when Uncle Victor interrupted.
“Welcome Thomas,” Uncle Victor said happily.
“I am so happy to see you,” he said as he hugged Thomas.
“I thought you were not going to honor my invitation and leave your Uncle Victor hanging,” he said giggling.
“Honor my invite,” these words rang in my ear.
“What is Thomas here to do?” I asked myself jittery.
They were done with the pleasantries then I called Thomas aside.
“Thomas, you did not answer my question. why are you here?” I asked.
“Trust me, Fiona. I am here for you,” he said again.
“Are you serious?” I asked him.
“Yes,” he affirmed.
“I have told you all over and over, I am safe here,” I told him.
“But if you insist,” I said, sighing.
“You are welcome to stay,” I said again.
“My little brother. I missed you a lot,” I said as I hugged him.
“Let us get you something to eat,” I said, holding his hands as we dashed off.
