Chapter Forty-Two
Uncle Victor’s Point of View:
“Sure Dad, I will let him know,” Alexander replied, and I left his room.
Later, the next day, Ken was in the house.
“Yes, boss!” Ken replied when I called him.
“You see that woman there?” I asked, pointing at Eleanor.
“I need you to make her feel comfortable around you,” I instructed him.
“When you are done, I need you to bring me feedback,” I told him.
“Yes boss,” he replied and went his way.
After some hours, Ken came back to me.
“Done deal boss,” he said.
“Now, take this portion,” I said, handing over a small container.
“I need you to get her a cup of orange juice,” I told him.
“When you do, take a tiny piece of the portion, drop into the drink, and hand it over to the same woman,” I instructed.
“Yes, boss!” Ken replied.
“You can ask the housekeeper for help,” I told him as he left.
“Aw,” I overheard Eleanor say.
“Thank you,” she said, accepting the drink, and Ken dropped it on a stool close to her.
“Easy peas’,” I said to myself, smiling.
Fiona’s POV:
Mother and Thomas were going to get their outfits for the wedding, so I went to see them off by the door.
“You all be quick about it. I am missing you both already,” I told them.
“Sure, in fact, we would not…” Mother was trying to say before a lady interrupted.
“Oh, you are his newest girl,” the lady said, blocking our way.
“Who are you and why are you in my way,” I asked her.
“I am Alexander’s wife-to-be,” she said.
“Eleanor,” Mother said, looking at the lady.
“And that is my name, old lady,” the woman told Mother.
“I think I know you,” Mother said.
“But I do not know you, and I am never going to,” she said again.
“You are so disrespectful. I am sure enough that that reason made Alexander leave you,” I told her.
“And so classless too,” I added.
“If I was a man too, I would dump you like a piece of trash,” I told her sternly.
“Now I get why you are so desperate about becoming his wife, because who would not be?” I asked her.
“My husband is so responsible and handsome, which would make any woman drool over him much more than a cheap and classless woman like you,” I replied.
“Did you just call me cheap and classless?” the woman asked in rage.
“Yes, I did. What are you going to do about it?” I asked her, then Uncle Victor came in to stop us from fighting.
“Take that!” she said angrily as she splashed a cup of orange juice but, unfortunately for her, the drink spilled on Uncle Victor.
“Oh, my face,” he cried out loud.
“Oh my God, Uncle,” I said, panicking.
“Somebody call an ambulance,” I said, seeing him in excruciating pain.
“Ken, call an ambulance,” I told Ken, who was on the balcony then.
We all rushed Uncle Victor to the hospital, with everyone aborting their plans for the moment.
He was taken into the ward, and then I told Alexander what had happened over the phone.
“I will be there shortly,” Alexander told me.
Alexander got to the hospital, and he almost got physical with Eleanor, but he was restricted.
“Calm down,” I told him.
“Are you trying to beat her up? What if that lands you with another problem?” I asked him.
“Let her be. We can sort this out later or, better still, you can hand her over to the authorities,” I advised.
“Your father will come out fine. He cannot die, not when he has us around him,” I encouraged Alexander.
“I think I will hand her over to the authorities. I can’t keep seeing her face around me,” Alexander said, and left.
Minutes later, he came back with the police.
“Ma’am, we would love to bring you in for questioning,” one of them said to Eleanor.
“Alexander, did you call the cops on me?” she asked him.
“You know I did not mean to hurt him but that girl,” she said, pointing at me.
“How could I have hurt him with just orange juice? Think about it, Alex,” she begged.
“It is not for me to tell the police,” Alexander replied.
After we waited for a long time, the doctor came to see us.
“Mr. Harrington had a terrible burn on his face,” the doctor said.
“From our analysis, the burn was as a result of a poison from the drink,” the doctor explained.
“Are you serious, doc?” Alexander asked.
“Yes, but it is not a fatal one but prone to cause serious damage to the human system,” the doctor further said.
“Mr. Harrington is lucky because he was brought in here much earlier,” the doctor added.
“I will see you in a bit,” the doctor said and left.
“I am going to deal with that girl, Eleanor. She has done a lot,” Alexander said angrily.
The police came back the second time.
“Who is Ken, please?” they asked.
“There,” I pointed at him.
“We need you too to come in for questioning,” they said.
“What did he do?” Alexander asked them.
“We need some answers from him. He will be back shortly if he is clean,” the police said as Ken went with them.
“I will go with them,” I said, and went off.
“Yes, him. He gave me the drink,” Eleanor said, pointing at Ken.
“What drink?” Ken said.
“Do not even lie. You handed me the orange juice that I did not even drink,” Eleanor said again.
“I heard the doctor say that the effect of the burn was as a result of some poison,” I said.
“Wait, did you poison the drink? Were you trying to kill me?” Eleanor asked Ken multiple questions.
“No, I didn’t,” Ken said.
“We need to get the doctor here,” I suggested.
The doctor arrived and was asked by the police what the effect of the poison was, and he started explaining.
“It is mostly used to terminate pregnancies traditionally,” he explained.
“What!” Eleanor exclaimed.
“So, you wanted to make me lose my baby,” she yelled at him.
“Have I ever offended you?” she asked, crying as Ken was whisked away by the police.
