Chapter Thirty-Three
Fiona’s POV:
“Thank you so much, Jessica,” I thanked her.
“You do not know what this means to me,” I told her.
Later in the day, Mother asked me to know if we were starting to bond.
“She told me that she would be having a brunch date with her friends,” I told her as I sat on the couch.
“But I do not think I would want to be there,” I said.
“Why do you think so?” she inquired.
“I mean, Uncle Victor has been kidnapped and it seems that he is still stuck there,” I answered Mother.
“I mean, there is no need to go that far to witch-hunt anyone. Besides, she would still be coming here to work,” I explained to her.
“Oh, you think so?” Mother said.
“And do you think Alexander would not take over from where his father stopped?” Mother asked me.
“I am so sure that he would be trying to save his father now,” I told her.
“Okay, suit yourself,” she said as she got back to what she was doing.
“Fiona!” Mother called me into her room.
“Seems your Uncle Victor is out of wherever he was taken to,” Mother said pointing to the TV for reference.
“What!” I said silently under my breath.
“That was fast though,” I told her.
“Faster than I thought,” I added.
“Me too,” Mother replied.
“Now, they would be very much active on your case,” Mother said again.
“Remember I warned you earlier,” she reminded me.
“I need to get a dress for that brunch date,” I told her.
“I definitely would have to be there,” I said and dashed off quickly to my room.
Alexander POV:
“Can you just imagine?” Father blurted out as we got back from the office together.
“Eric says that Ken cannot be seen, and his lines are not connecting,” Father said angrily as he hit his fist against the steering wheel.
“Dad, relax,” I told him.
“You remember what anger did to you the last time and you have not even fully recovered,” I reminded my father.
“First Fiona, now Ken,” he said in anger.
“I am going to kill these two before they do. I have been in this business even before they were born,” he said to himself assuredly.
“But you need your health to fight, Dad. You need to relax for some time Dad,” I reminded him.
“You have nothing to worry about, Dad. You have me, I am here for you,” I assured.
“I think I would drive us home. you need rest,” I told him as we retired home in silence.
Ken sent me a text that night about his whereabouts and said he had some information about Fiona.
“Ken,” I said as he picked up the call.
“Say what you have to say. I do not have enough time on my hands,” I instructed him immediately.
“The lady I spoke with said that they would be hanging out this weekend and Fiona would be with them,” he told me over the phone.
“Okay, that is great news,” I replied.
“But we would have to make a down payment,” he said.
“You know what? You can make the payment,” I told him.
“I would send you some money but make sure this is no scam and if it is, take her out,” I said.
“Make sure this comes out clean,” I instructed Ken and hung up.
Fiona’s POV:
Jessica arrived for work the next day, and I acted extremely happy to see her.
“Oh, my new friend is here,” I said as I hugged her.
It felt awkward to me, but I did not show her because everything I was putting out was all faux.
“You look so happy today. you probably woke up by the right side of the bed,” she said giggling.
“Oh, please,” I said, faking a smile.
“It’s just because I found a new friend. It feels so good after a while,” I told her.
“Aww, I understand,” she told me.
“I should get to work quickly,” she said as she retired to Thomas’s room.
After a while, I went to check on them both and engaged Jessica in a chitchat.
“You know what? I can’t wait to go out again,” I told her.
“I know right? Besides, I discussed it with the other girls, and they are all happy and anticipating seeing you,” Jessica told me.
“Really?” I asked her.
“Yeah,” she answered me.
“Oh my God. I cannot wait to see them too,” I told Jessica, still faking.
“I think I would love to use the bathroom,” Jessica said, excusing herself from the room.
“Sure,” I said as she left.
Jessica took longer than I expected. I kept wondering what she was doing there.
“Jessica, is everything alright?’ I asked her.
“Yeah. I will be out real soon,” she told me, and I left.
“Yes,” I told myself as it struck me.
I went straight to her bag to check if I would be getting any information.
I got there and found photos of my mother, Thomas, and myself.
“She must have sneaked into my room to get these photos,” I said in shock after realizing the photos I kept in my room were sitting in her bag.
“What is she using all these for?” I asked myself.
“And why are our faces marked?” I asked myself quietly but quickly dropped her bag as soon as I heard her footsteps approaching.
“I hope you are good, Jess?” I asked her as I forced a smile.
“I guess I am,” she replied.
“Seems I upset the system with what I ate last night,” she explained to me.
“Oh, I am so sorry,” I told her.
“Have you had any medicine?” I asked her.
“Yes, but it is getting better,” she replied.
Jessica lied to me, but she sucked at it. She has been with her phone throughout her stay in the bathroom because I could not find it in her bag when I searched.
“Quick recovery,” I sympathized with her.
“You can take time off if you cannot bear it anymore,” I told her.
“Thank you so much, Fiona,” Jessica told me.
“You are so nice,” she told me.
“You are just a joker,” I thought to myself.
“I would be in my room,” I told her and left.
“We will be pulling off the mask very soon,” I said and walked off.
