Chapter Thirty-Two
Fiona’s POV:
“Fiona, Jessica is done for the day, and she needs to leave,” Mother insisted.
“Stop being insecure,” Mother told me.
“So, I am being insecure now?” I asked her, surprised.
“You know what,” I started.
“You can let me know if you are now one of them because it is really hard understanding you these days,” I told Mother angrily.
“Oh? Is that what you think now?” she asked me, surprised.
“You know what? I am tired of the subtle disrespect,” Mother told me.
“Do whatever seems right to you. I am out of here,” Mother said angrily and left and I followed immediately to my room, too angry.
Alexander’s POV:
“We have found someone with information about Fiona and her brother,” he said over the phone.
“Oh, wonderful,” I said in amazement.
“So, what’s the news?” I asked him.
“The said person is asking for twenty thousand dollars before any information is given out,” the man said over the phone.
“What!” I exclaimed.
“That is too much for just some information,” I said to him.
“I will call you back,” I said, and I hung up the phone.
“I tend to wonder how father trusts these people,” I said to myself.
“This same person on Father’s team is going behind his back to work for me,” I told myself, giggling.
“I probably play the game better than he does,” I told myself amidst smiles.
I called him again and asked to see the person he talked about.
“I already did boss, but she refused,” he replied.
“She says she would only see us if we made part payment,” he told me over the phone.
“Why is she asking for part payment like we owe her or something?” I asked him.
“I need you to find this woman and bring her to me by any means,” I commanded him over the phone.
“I trust you can do it,” I added.
Dad is having a heated discussion with the same man.
“I need you to tame him,” I heard Dad say as the man made to take his leave.
“Yes boss,” he answered and left.
“Dad, how are you doing today?” I asked him.
“I am good, son,” my father replied.
“What is the problem? Why was he here?” I asked him.
“There seems to be a form of conspiracy in his camp. And if he does not act fast, hmm,” Dad said.
“It is going to be a disastrous one to him and all of us,” he explained.
“I asked him to take the other person out to protect the future,” Father added.
“And who is this person?” I asked Father.
“I mean the conspirator,” I clarified.
“That is Ken, he is second in rank to Evans,” he replied.
“Evans is the person who just left here,” he added.
“Oh, okay,” I said.
“Dad, can I work with you on this?” I begged him.
“And why?” he asked me.
“I mean if anything goes wrong, we would all be in trouble. So, I want to also play a significant part,” I told him.
“Please,” I begged him.
“Okay, you are on,” Father told me reluctantly.
“Thank you, Dad,” I said happily.
“I would be in my room, Dad,” I told him and left.
“I need you to get out of town immediately, Ken,” I told him over the phone as soon as I got to my room.
“And I need you to lay low. Evans is coming for you,” I said.
“His mandate is to take you out,” I told him.
“I need you to leave. Leave now!” I instructed him and I hung up.
“The game has just begun,” I said under my breath.
Fiona’s POV:
“Mom…” I called my mother.
“Yes, Fiona,” she answered.
“I am so sorry for how I spoke to you earlier,” I apologized sincerely.
“I am sorry if I offended you too,” she said.
“I know that you are being protective, but you need to be calculative about it,” she explained.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked her, already confused.
“You see, how you confronted Jessica earlier on would have her watch her back carefully this time,” she told me.
“I am not saying that she is a suspect, you would not get any information if you acted this way,” Mother said.
“So, what do I do now?” I asked her.
“Be her friend. Not a real friend,” she warned.
“But you can just be close to her and help her around when she is in the house. That way, you can monitor her better,” Mother advised me.
“Wow!” I exclaimed.
“I didn’t see it from this angle,” I said grinning from ear to ear.
“I will apologize when she gets here by tomorrow,” I told Mother.
“That is a good one,” Mother said as she patted me.
Jessica arrived the next day and she got to work. She kept avoiding it all through the morning.
“Hi, Jessica,” I greeted her.
“Good morning, Miss Fiona,” she answered without looking at me.
“Uh. I know you might be upset from what happened yesterday,” I started.
“But I am so sorry for coming at you that way,” I apologized.
“I mean, it is your job. I should have just allowed you,” I said again.
“I understand. But I also did wrong by not informing you,” Jessica replied.
“Besides, if you had reported to my agency, I would have been sacked by now and stripped of my license,” Jessica told me.
“I am sorry too,” Jessica apologized too.
“I hope we can start on a different note now?” I asked her.
“Sure,” she replied grinning.
I sat in Thomas’s room for some time, then I decided to leave after I sensed tension in the atmosphere.
“Sorry for sitting here for so long, you’d need some privacy, I guess,” I told her as I stood up.
“Oh, no. You should stay a little,” Jessica protested.
“Your presence here is appealing,” Jessica told me.
“Oh, okay. If you insist,” I said and I had my seat.
“You know, Jessica…” I started, interrupting the silence.
“My family and I moved here recently, and I’ve been indoors throughout,” I told her.
“I feel like I need to go out more and make friends too,” I told her.
“Oh, I understand,” Jessica said.
“My friends and I are having a brunch date by the weekend. You can join us if you care,” Jessica said.
“Awesome,” I said.
