Chapter Thirty-One
Fiona’s POV:
“I wish that we could continue like this, but I feel scared for us, especially for you,” I told him.
“We are together in this my love. I am ready to fight for the love we share,” he told me as we held hands.
“Yes, we would fight,” I replied.
“Oh my God,” the nurse said, rushing out of Thomas’s room.
“Is there any problem, Jessica?” I asked her.
“You have to see this, ma’am,” she told me in excitement.
“Okay,” I replied, and I followed her back into the room.
“Look at his hands,” she said as she pointed at Thomas’s hands. They were moving.
“What does that mean?” I asked her.
“It shows that he is recovering,” she said.
“It can even happen sooner than you thought,” Jessica said smiling in excitement.
“Thank God,” I muttered.
“I can’t wait to see him standing on his feet,” I said.
“Thank you, Jessica, for always being around him,” I thanked her.
Alexander’s POV:
“Knock, knock,” I heard a sound on the door.
“Alexander, open the door,” I heard the man say.
“Dad!” I exclaimed in excitement on seeing my father. He looked helpless and badly injured.
“Who did this to you father?” I asked him.
“It is a long story, son. Give me some water to drink,” Dad told me as I left him and the man in the living room.
“You need to take him out. It is for our good,” I overheard Dad telling the man as I walked back into the room.
“Take who out Dad?” I asked him which made me startled.
“Did you hear me saying anything like that?” Dad tried to lie.
“Oh, yes. I did,” I replied sternly.
“Who are you planning on taking out this time?” I asked him again.
“No one, Alex,” he told me.
“You know what Dad?” I inquired.
“It is okay if you do not trust me. But I am tired of being kept in the dark,” I told him.
“You made us leave the hospital in a rush only to get yourself kidnapped on the way,” I said.
“You should be grateful to him. If not, you have been dead by now because I know almost nothing about your affairs,” I told him.
“Maybe it would be best if I stay out of it for good,” I said as I dropped the cup of water and left the living room.
“Alex,” Dad said as he got into my room hours later.
“You see the kidnap that happened, seemed like my past coming to haunt me,” he narrated.
“I was kidnapped by Damian. I did business with his father sometimes back and he tried to backstab me,” he told me.
“But I was lucky enough to overpower him and he died in the process,” he added.
“He died or you killed him?” I asked him.
“Alexander, in this game you got to be fierce, or you would be out of the scene earlier than you imagine,” he told me.
“Why did you kill Fiona’s father?” I asked him.
“He acted too righteous when was not and was starting to be a pain in the neck to me and others,” he explained to me.
“Now, speaking of Fiona. Have you heard anything about her?” Father asked me.
“No, I have not,” I replied to him.
“She probably has eloped with her boyfriend, Whitman,” I told him.
“You see what I am talking about,” Father said.
“Your life is already in shambles. When you cannot even take Whitman out,” he retorted.
“How do you expect me to entrust my company into your hands?” he asked.
“The same company I built from scratch with sweat and everything I have?” Father said angrily.
“But Dad, Fiona, and Whitman’s relationship has nothing to do with my capability of handling the company,” I replied.
“It has everything to do with it. Imagine you cannot handle this situation; how would you deal with bigger ones?” my father asked me.
“If this is what would make you believe in me. Fine, I would do it,” I told my father.
“That is the spirit,” he said and left the room.
“Good morning, Dad,” I greeted my father the next morning.
“Dad. I need a favor from you,” I told him.
“What is it?” My father asked me.
“I do not know if I can work with the man from yesterday. The man who saved you,” I told him.
“For what? Fiona, I guess,” Dad told me.
“Yes,” I answered him.
“He could not find anything. You should find someone else,” he said.
“Fine, I would just do that alone,” I told him.
Fiona’s POV:
“Jessica, are you okay?” I asked her. She looked different from the other day. It looked like she was hiding something.
“Yes, I’m okay,” she replied as she smiled.
“I would keep an eye on her,” I told myself silently.
“Why are you spying on her?” Mom said as she noticed.
“I feel like she’s hiding something,” I told her.
“Oh Fiona…” she said.
“She is just doing her job. Stop being insecure,” Mother told me.
“Maybe but I am not leaving here,” I told her whispering.
“I would let you do what you want to do,” she said and tried leaving.
“Look, Mom!” I exclaimed.
“She is taking photos of Thomas…” I spoke.
“Why would she do that?” I asked.
“This is clearly against their work ethics. This could get her fired, you know,” I told Mother.
“What are you doing, Jessica?” I asked as I barged into the room.
“No, nothing,” she answered me, startled as her phone dropped from her hands.
“Why are you taking photos of my brother?” I asked her again.
“Oh… that…” she said, not sure of what to say.
“You know earlier…” she continued.
“I just want to show a professional, Thomas’s recovery journey,” she explained to me.
“So why did you take those photos without asking for my permission or our consent?” I asked her.
“I am so sorry, ma’am, Fiona,” Jessica apologized.
“I was going to ask you after I took the photos,” she said.
“Or don’t you trust me?” she asked, teary.
“Oh, please. Do not get defensive with me,” I asked her, agitated.
“Jessica, I think you need to leave now,” Mother told her.
“She’s going nowhere,” I said standing by the entrance with my hands akimbo.
