Chapter Twenty-Seven
Uncle Victor’s POV:
“Okay, tell me. What did you find?” I asked them in haste.
It’s an old inn and I guess they are all in there,” the Hitman told me.
“So, are you telling me you saw an old inn, waiting for me to come get those nitwits for you?” I asked him in anger.
“We are sorry sir,” he said as I hung up in anger.
“Dad, I hope everything is, okay?” Alexander asked me again.
“I am okay, son,” I told him with a smile to ease his uneasiness.
“Ok… okay,” he answered me unconvincingly.
“I think I will have my meal now. I would start with the fruits,” I told him after some time.
“Okay,” Alexander said, satisfied.
“I think you need to avoid those calls seeing that they get you triggered,” Alexander said as I sat on the bed.
“I will try,” I told him, forcing a smile.
Two hours later, I sat down restless, so I called the Hitman to ask him how everything went.
“Why would you leave me in suspense?” I asked the man.
“I am so sorry, boss,” he told me over the phone.
“Okay. So, what do you have for me?” I asked him.
“Uh… we… I… could… not…” he tried saying before I cut him short.
“Will you speak up before I lose my cool?” I asked him.
“We got to the inn and found Thomas’s phone stuff in a dummy, and the whole inn is empty,” he told me.
“It looks like they all moved out,” he added.
“Argh,” I exclaimed in anger.
Do you mean to say that you were led on by Fiona and you fell for it? I thought you were intelligent enough to uncover these gimmicks of hers?” I asked him in rage.
“Get off my phone,” I said as I cut the call.
“I think you should get off Fiona’s case for now. You are in that bed because of her,” Alexander told me.
“You should give her a break,” he added.
“Alex, so you have been eavesdropping on my conversation all this while?” I asked him.
“I was not eavesdropping,” he said.
“I was only standing behind the door, and you did not notice,” he told me.
“Oh. But that is not your business for now,” I told him.
“So, you do not meddle,” I said.
“So, I cannot be in your business anymore? Is that what you mean?” Alexander asked with shock.
“Yes,” I replied.
“Fine,” he said as he exited the ward.
Fiona’s POV:
“It feels so peaceful here,” Mother told me as I sat beside Thomas’s bedside.
“Yeah. Very peaceful,” I told her.
“Away from the negativity too,” I added as I sat beside her.
“I hope he gets well soon. It is an eyesore seeing him in this state,” Mother said referring to Thomas.
“Victor has caused my family a lot. Sometimes, I wished we had never met him,” she added.
“Uncle Victor is the least of my worries now,” I told her.
“At least we are somewhere where he would hardly find us. I just want to see Thomas recover,” I told her.
“I hid Thomas’s phone in a dummy and threw it in the guest inn,” I told her.
“I am sure that they would have tracked the phone and found nothing there,” I said giggling.
“This should keep them away for a while,” I told her.
“Hopefully, it would,” she answered as we sat in silence.
One hour later, there was a knock on the door.
“Who is that?” I muttered to myself.
“Do not worry. I would see who is at the door,” Mother said as she went towards the door.
“Wait, we just got here. Why would anyone be here?” I asked her in a muffled tone.
“It could also be the nurse the doctor talked about. Remember?” she reminded me.
“Oh. Maybe,” I said.
“Oh, welcome,” I heard her say to the person.
“Come in,” she said as I saw a beautiful woman walk in.
“Welcome,” I told her, clearing my throat. I watched them as I stood behind the curtain.
“This is my eldest daughter,” Mother introduced.
“I am the nurse assigned to Thomas. I was told that you all have been informed before this,” she said as she noticed my face.
“That is not a problem. Let me show you to his room,” I told her while forcing a smile.
I stood behind the door when Mother came to join me.
“Why are you staring at her like that? She is just checking his pulse,” she said as she noticed how I stared.
“Do you think?” I asked her.
“She looks suspicious, and looks… jittery,” I said again pointing at her hands.
“Maybe she is just nervous,” Eleanor said as she walked away.
Alexander’s POV:
“I do not know why Dad is hell-bent on bringing Fiona down,” I said under my breath, confused.
“Even in his sick bed. This is ridiculous,” I said, shaking my head.
“Fiona has been a pain. She would not just adhere to his rules,” I said then the doctor cut in.
“Mr. Alexander, I am glad I met you here,” he said as he exhaled in relief.
“Your father is asking for him to be discharged. But we cannot do that because he is yet to recover,” the doctor told me with concern.
“But why?” I asked him, confused.
“I would have to speak with him,” I told him.
“That would be great. I would be waiting in my office,” he said as he walked off.
“Dad, why do you want to be discharged?” I asked him.
“You are not yet strong enough to stand on your own more to talk of wanting to get discharged,” I told him.
“That is my choice, and it is okay if you do not understand why I want to be discharged,” he told me.
“You know what Dad? Since we got here…” I started.
“It has been hard understanding you,” I told him.
“Alex, I think it would be best for the both of us to be out of here soonest,” he answered.
“But why?” I asked him.
“If you love me, you would not be here asking me questions,” he said.
“You would be working my discharge and getting our passports ready,” he said, almost yelling.
“Okay,” I said and left.
