Chapter Twenty-Six
Fiona’s POV:
“You can say what you want to say now.” I told her.
“I know what you must be going through, Fiona.” Veronica said as she came closer.
“You were still a child then. You would not even understand what was going on if I even told you.” She said again.
“I needed to get out of the scene to save you and your brother especially your father.” Veronica continued.
“But it felt like it did not do much because Victor Harrington still took out his evil plot.” Veronica told me.
“Harrington wanted me to leave your father and get married to him after he left his wife,” she said.
“He threatened to wipe our whole family out if I do not get married to him then was pregnant with Thomas.” Veronica narrated to me.
“I begged him to let go but he insisted.” Veronica continued.
“Why would he just ask you to be his wife out of nowhere?” I asked her.
“Knowing fully well that you are his best friend’s wife?” I asked her, confused.
“I had known Victor Harrington from college.” Veronica said.
“He was my school mate while I was in college, Victor did everything possible in his power to make me his girlfriend, but I always turned him down.” Veronica narrated.
“We graduated from college and we both went our separate ways.” Veronica continued.
“Then we reconnected.” Veronica said as I cut in.
“Reconnected?” I asked her, shocked.
“Not really. I started working with an investment where I met your father, and he introduced Victor to me as his best friend.” Veronica narrated.
“Yes. I remember dad telling me he met his wife when he worked at an investment company.” I said to myself, but I was still not convinced.
“Victor used to be very jealous of your father.” Veronica said.
“Yeah, I noticed.” I told her.
“Realizing that I was your father’s fiancee at the time made him more furious, but he did not show it.” She continued.
“He would always come behind his back and tell me how he hated seeing us together and wishes we were not together.” Veronica said.
“Then why didn’t you tell Dad about it?” I asked Veronica.
“Your father trusted Victor so much that he would think I was just making things up.” Veronica explained to me.
“I think I agree with everything you said about Uncle Victor.” I told her.
“But about your relationship with my father, no.” I nodded my head in disagreement.
“I have some old photos of us together.” Veronica said.
“With this same face?” I asked her.
“Yeah, true.” Veronica said.
“But you remember when you were a baby. You were really scared of the dark…” Veronica started.
“You would always run to me, and your father and we would sing a lullaby for you.” Veronica said she started singing.
“Little Fiona is always scared of the dark.” Veronica starts singing.
“Daddy needs you to be strong, mummy needs you to be brave.” I completed the line.
“Mom.” I said as I hugged Veronica.
“I believe you now, you are my true mother. I felt you were never going to return.” I told her crying.
“Fiona Lawson, you came right on time and the world needs you too.” I said joyfully, wiping my tears.
“I was filled with joy when I saw you. My daughter is so grown, she’s a woman now.” Mother told me with so much joy.
“I am never going to feel alone in this world again.” I said as I hugged her tight.
We stood there for about thirty minutes with rushes of nostalgia.
Uncle Victor’s POV:
“Dad, how are you feeling today?” Alexander asked me.
“I got you some homemade food.” He told me.
“I can see. Did you make these yourself?” I asked him.
“Oh, dad. You remember the last time I tried cooking it was a huge mess.” Alexander said with a smile.
“I got a live-in chef.” He answered.
“A live-in chef?” I asked him.
“Don’t give me that look dad.
The chef is a man.” I clarified.
“And you know that I am straight. I don’t do men.” Alexander said.
“That is quite relieving because I do not want you creating any more problems.” I told him.
“Has the doctor said anything about discharging me?” I asked Alexander again.
“No. He did not say anything about that when I met him earlier.” He replied to me.
“Here dad, your meal is here.” Alexander told me.
“Dad, your phone.” Alexander said as he handed over my phone as it rang.
“Ignore. I don’t think it is important now.” I told him.
“Okay.” Alexander answered.
“It seems this caller would not stop. I think it should be something important.” Alexander said.
“Okay, hand it over.” I told him as I took the phone.
“Why is he calling me now?” I asked myself.
It was the Hitman.
“What is it?” I asked him.
“Boss, we have a new update.” He told me over the phone.
“I hope it is not about that girl because she got me here.” I told him.
“It has to do with her sir but…” He said as I cut in.
“Then I would not want to have anything to do with her for now. I am still recovering.” I told him.
“That would not be a problem, boss. We can go on with the job without any troubles.” He told me.
“Okay.” I answered.
“Then, what is the update?” I asked him.
“We were able to track Thomas’s phone and it shows that they are not too far from here.” He told me over the phone.
“Wow. That is a nice one.” I said.
“So, what is your next move?” I asked.
“We would be moving there anytime from now but on your orders sir.” He told me.
“What are you waiting for? Move and bring me good news.” I said in excitement over the phone.
“Yes boss.” He answered as I hung up the phone.
“What is the matter, dad? You went from 0 to 100?” Alexander asked me.
“It is nothing, Alex.” I said.
“It’s nothing.” I emphasized as my phone rang again.
“Yes boss. We are there.” The Hitman called to inform me.
“Yes boss. We found something.” The Hitman said as my face lit in joy.
