Chapter Twenty-Five
Uncle Victor POV:
“Dad, wake up.” I heard Alexander say from afar.
“Where am I?” I said as I regained consciousness.
“You are in the hospital, dad.” Alexander said. He was sitting by my bedside.
“And why?” I asked him.
“Because you slumped, dad.” Alexander said.
“You were on a call, and you suddenly fell to the ground, so I had to call an ambulance.” Alexander explained to me.
“That little brat caused all of these.” I said.
“And I would make sure I teach her a very big lesson.” I said under my breath.
“I need to get out of here.” I told Alexander.
“The doctor has not said anything about discharging you.” Alexander said.
“Not anytime soon either.” He said again.
“I do not care. I detest hospitals.” I said helplessly.
Fiona’s POV:
“Finally, we are here.” I said as soon as I got into the apartment.
“The environment here is so serene. I feel it would be good here.” Veronica said too.
“I hope when Thomas gets out of that bed, he comes out a better person,” I said to her.
“Because I would not want to see him snitch on me again.” I told Veronica.
“I hope so too.” Veronica said as she turned to leave then a piece of paper fell from her handbag.
“Mom, you dropped something.” I said but she could not hear so I had to pick it up.
“You are invading, Fiona.” I said as I became tempted to open it up.
“It has the same hospital name Thomas was admitted in.” I said in confusion.
“What!” I said to myself as it struck me.
“Blood donor. She has the same blood type as Thomas.” I said as I realized.
“But the name here says Eleanor… Eleanor William.” I said.
“And the date of Thomas’s blood transfusion is the same as this.” I told myself in shock.
“But the doctor said the blood type is rare and the donor asked for a hidden identity.” I said to myself again.
“Fiona, can you help me with Thomas’s things?” Veronica asked me from the inner room.
“Fiona.” She called again as she heard no response.
“Fiona, are you okay?” Veronica asked as she came to meet me.
“Oh.” I said as I snapped back to reality.
“You dropped this. I was going to hand it over to you.” I said handing over to Veronica a piece of paper.
“Oh.” She said almost inaudibly as she took the paper from me.
“Mom, are you hiding something from me? I mean, from us?” I asked Veronica.
“No, no.” She stuttered while answering me.
“Then who is Eleanor William?” I asked her with all seriousness.
“Fiona, I think the less you know, the better it will be for you.” Veronica said, trying to pacify me.
“That would not work now.” I told her.
“Were you Thomas’s blood donor?” I asked her again.
“Why did you decide to keep your identity hidden?” I asked her.
“Say something.” I said almost yelling as Veronica would not say a word.
“What you are asking for is way deeper than you think.” Veronica replied to me.
“Okay, fine. You can start from somewhere.” I told her.
“Who are you… you are getting me scared.” I said panicking.
“Fiona, you are having this information can cause you a lot of troubles.” Veronica told me again.
“Okay, fine.” Veronica said.
“I am your mother, Fiona…Fiona Lawson.” Veronica told me.
“You must be kidding me, right?” I asked her in disbelief.
“I am telling the truth, Fiona.” Veronica said to me.
“So, you lied to me all these while.” I said helplessly as I dropped a tear.
“You watched me go through all of these alone and you watched me from afar.” I said.
“No, no. I cannot believe this. I need proof.” I said.
“You do not look like my mother. You look different from her.” I told her again.
“I had cosmetic surgery. I worked on my face.” Veronica told me.
“I needed to lay down and plan my revenge.” Veronica said as she looked away.
“Revenge?” I asked in shock.
“Yes. Victor Harrington took a lot from me and your father.” Veronica said.
“I had to abandon my family to flee all because of Victor.” Veronica said again.
“So, you left your family and a newborn baby because you wanted revenge? I asked her.
“Would you have returned if I hadn’t applied to that coffee shop?” I asked Veronica again.
“Would you have let me know if I did not see that?” I said pointing at the piece of paper.
“You were so young, Fiona. There was no way you were going to understand even if I had told you.” Veronica said in her defense.
“How about dad? I am pretty sure he knew nothing about the stunt you pulled.” I told her.
“Your father trusted Victor a lot, so if I had told him, he would not even believe me.” Veronica told me.
“So, you mean to say that you faked your death without your family knowing?” I asked her again.
“Fiona, I know it would be hard for you to believe what I am saying but I want you to know that I did it for your own good.” Veronica tried to convince me.
“No. I cannot believe you.” I said.
“If you are capable of abandoning me and my brother. Even after our father’s death, I do not think I am capable of trusting you.” I said to her face.
“But Fio…” Veronica said as she tried to touch me.
“Don’t touch me, please.” I said as I ran off in tears.
I got into my room and locked myself up for the rest of the day. I wished there was a way I could shut the whole world out at one and my thoughts too.
“My whole life feels like a movie.” I told myself when I heard a knock on the door.
“Fiona, you have been in there for a long time.” Veronica said as she knocked.
“You need to have something at least even if you do not feel like speaking to me.” Veronica begged.
“Okay. I will tell you everything you want to know about me.” She said again and I grudgingly let her in.
