Darwin was frozen in place after hearing from the doctor that his wife was pregnant. He also had to express his heartfelt gratitude because, in the midst of the accident, his wife and unborn child were both in good condition.
“At the moment, Mrs. Veronica is still receiving treatment from the medical team. Once the examinations and medical procedures are completed, you can see her,” the doctor explained Darwin’s wife’s current condition in detail.
“Does my wife need to be hospitalized?”
Darwin wanted to make sure. He was worried that Veronica might need extra care or complete rest in the hospital for a few days.
“Considering her condition is not too severe, your wife can receive outpatient care. She could even go home today if she wants.”
“What about the other patient’s condition, Doctor?”
“We are still waiting for a blood transfusion from the Red Cross because the required blood type is in short supply,” the doctor explained with a serious expression.
“What blood type are you looking for?” Darwin asked. Regardless of how Deasy had treated him all this time, he was also concerned about her condition and didn’t want to see anything bad happen to her.
“The patient needs blood type O.”
“If it’s still needed, I’m willing to donate blood, Doctor. Fortunately, my blood type is also O,” Kennedy said, who was also at the hospital with Darwin and Randy. Moreover, she was in good health and ready.
“I have blood type O as well,” Darwin chimed in. “If a lot is needed, both of us are ready to donate, Doctor.”
The doctor nodded in agreement, then directed Darwin and Kennedy to go to the laboratory immediately to donate blood.
Once the blood needs were met, a few moments later, Darwin was called and allowed to meet Veronica, who had just finished receiving treatment for her minor injuries.
Darwin strode purposefully towards the emergency room. As he entered, he saw Veronica wincing as she checked her scraped arms.
“My love…”
At that very moment, Veronica looked up. Seeing Darwin walking towards her, Veronica hurriedly got up and, without saying much, embraced him tightly. She even started crying in his arms.
“I was scared, Win,” Veronica whimpered while continuing to hold onto her husband’s body tightly. “I was afraid I wouldn’t see you again.”
For a moment, Darwin tried to comfort Veronica, who seemed shocked by the recent accident. When her tears subsided, Darwin slowly released the hug and invited Veronica to sit on the edge of the bed.
“I’m sorry, Ve. I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t have let you go alone. I apologize for being selfish and immature these past few days. If something bad happened to you because of me, I would blame myself.”
“I’m not angry with you at all,” Veronica quickly responded. “I’m also at fault here. But please, don’t ignore me like before.”
Darwin nodded. Once again, he enveloped Veronica in a tight hug. He uttered thousands of thanks for God’s mercy in saving his wife’s life.
“Fortunately, you’re okay,” Darwin said.
“The obstetrician said I’m fine too.”
Darwin relaxed the hug once more. He gazed at Veronica with teary eyes.
“So, you’re really pregnant?”
Veronica nodded.
“I only found out this afternoon when I checked at home. I wanted to let you know, but none of your calls were answered.”
Darwin sighed deeply. Because of his foolishness, he had almost lost his wife and unborn child.
“I’m sorry once again, Ve. I’m really sorry. I promise I won’t repeat this behavior.”
“No need for forgiveness, Ve.”
From the entrance, Randy and Kennedy, who were also concerned about Veronica’s condition, entered. As usual, Darwin’s cousin sounded provocative.
“You’re getting old and acting like a child with all this sulking. It’s not appropriate.”
“Let’s not start, Ran,” Darwin retorted, not accepting it.
“Who started it? You were the one who started it first. Thankfully, Veronica is okay. If she had been seriously injured, I doubt Mr. Damian would let you off the hook this time. You might even get fired as a son-in-law.”
Randy’s words did hold some truth. If something had happened to Veronica, he was sure his father-in-law would be furious with him.
“Alright… alright…” Kennedy intervened. “The most important thing now is that Veronica is fine. Let’s focus on the progress of Veronica’s friend who’s still receiving help. We should wait together here until the doctor gives an update.”
“Oh my gosh, you’re right,” Veronica exclaimed, suddenly remembering Deasy. “How is she now?”
Darwin nodded.
“When I checked earlier, she was still undergoing further treatment from the medical team. Hopefully, her condition is gradually improving. Let’s just pray together.”
Darwin then carefully guided Veronica out of the room. Everyone moved to the room where Deasy was currently receiving treatment. They waited there together until the doctor provided further updates.
