Chapter 115

“Congratulations, Mr. Darwin. Mrs. Veronica is indeed pregnant.”
Currently, Darwin is once again visiting the hospital. After taking three days off to rest at home and ensuring his wife’s well-being, Darwin has brought Veronica for further examination to determine what steps should be taken next.
As previously mentioned by the emergency room doctor, his wife’s pregnancy is not experiencing any problems. And today, Darwin has prepared many questions to ask the chosen specialist obstetrician.
“From the ultrasound machine, we can already see the fetal sac, and we can even hear the baby’s heartbeat,” the doctor explained while pointing at the plasma screen of the ultrasound machine during the examination of Veronica’s pregnancy.
Darwin, who had been listening attentively all this time, smiled with emotion. He never expected to be blessed by God with the gift and blessing of having a child with the woman he loves so much.
“If you don’t mind me asking, how far along is my wife’s pregnancy right now, doctor?” Darwin inquired with curiosity.
The doctor smiled, briefly glancing at the ultrasound machine screen before answering Darwin’s recent question.
“According to manual calculations and the ultrasound machine, Mrs. Veronica’s pregnancy is currently at eight weeks and three days, or in general terms, she is already in her second month.”
Veronica was taken aback. She didn’t expect that her pregnancy had already reached two months. For the past few months, she was certain that she hadn’t felt anything unusual or any signs of pregnancy, apart from realizing her missed period only a few days ago.
“Are you sure my pregnancy is already two months along, doctor?” Veronica asked to confirm. “But for the past few months, I haven’t felt anything. Are there any signs or symptoms of pregnancy other than a late period, which I only noticed a few days ago?”
The doctor smiled, finishing the examination for a moment, then invited Veronica to move from the patient’s bed to a nearby chair. After that, the doctor continued to explain Veronica’s questions.
“Yes, Mrs. Veronica. Some pregnant women don’t initially show specific signs or symptoms like nausea, vomiting, excessive fatigue, mood swings, or other hormonal changes.”
“But, is this normal, doctor?” Darwin asked, also curious. “I mean, if my wife doesn’t experience the typical symptoms of pregnancy, it doesn’t mean there’s a problem with the pregnancy, right?”
The doctor nodded, reassuring Darwin’s concerns.
“Don’t worry, sir. It’s perfectly normal. In fact, it’s a good thing if Mrs. Veronica doesn’t experience morning sickness. Because some pregnant women who have morning sickness sometimes find it difficult to go about their daily activities, and some even struggle to eat, get up, and may require total bed rest at the hospital due to their weakened condition.”
“Then, in the future, is there a possibility that my wife might still experience nausea and vomiting?” Darwin asked again.
“It’s possible, sir. In fact, some pregnant women continue to experience nausea and vomiting even as their pregnancy progresses into the third trimester. But again, it’s normal as long as there are no serious or dangerous symptoms.”
Veronica and Darwin nodded in understanding. After a lengthy consultation, they finally had a clearer picture of what to expect in the coming months. One thing was certain; Darwin wanted the best for his wife and their unborn child, and Veronica shared the same hopes. They would do whatever it took to care for their future baby.
“In that case, for the next few weeks, I’ll prescribe some special pregnancy vitamins for Mrs. Veronica to take,” the doctor said as they wrote a specific prescription, which Darwin would later fill outside. “Please make sure to take them according to the dosage and finish the course.”
Darwin assisted in receiving the prescription paper, which he would later pick up at the pharmacy. Meanwhile, Veronica, still seated, asked a lingering question.
“Doctor, during early pregnancy, are there any restrictions I should follow? Are there any specific foods or drinks I should avoid?”
The doctor nodded, smiled slightly, and explained what Veronica should and shouldn’t consume during her pregnancy.
“Actually, there are no specific restrictions. Pregnant women can eat anything, as long as it’s in moderation and not excessive. However, it’s best to avoid soda and raw foods like some Japanese dishes. Also, stay away from undercooked or raw meat, like steak and seafood.”
“Are there any other things my wife shouldn’t do?” Darwin chimed in with another question. He thought it was essential to know everything related to his wife’s pregnancy to help prevent any unwanted issues.
Apart from eating, the doctor advised, “Aside from diet, avoid strenuous activities, anything that triggers stress, and don’t forget to engage in light physical exercise to keep your body fit. For anything else, feel free to consult with your doctor.”
After a thorough consultation, Darwin and Veronica concluded their first meeting with the obstetrician. According to their schedule, they would return for regular check-ups like other expectant mothers in the following month.
