It was close to noon.
Sidney lingered at the company for quite a while before he headed home. As soon as he entered the house, he saw Kaitlyn waiting at the dinner table; there was no sign of Aubree.
“Where’s Aubree?” He didn’t even see Kaitlyn and directly asked Everly, who was busy.
Back then, Sidney and Aubree were the only two who ate here, and they were not picky eaters; they gladly ate whatever Everly prepared. But now, with Kaitlyn, who made all kinds of demands, Everly was so busy that she even forgot Aubree wasn’t at the dinner table yet.
“Master, Miss Aubree is still in her room; I’m not sure whether she had dinner or not. Miss Kaitlyn asked me to prepare some supper, I’m about done, so shall I go ask for her?”
Sidney frowned and waved his hand, “I’ll go check.”
“Sidney!” Kaitlyn shouted in anger to stop him in place, “I’m right here!”
“Kaitlyn, did you say something to her?” Sidney stood in place and turned around aggravated, his voice carried a tone of blame.
She must have upset Aubree; or else why would she remain upstairs by herself?
Kaitlyn was in shock, “Are you angry with me because of her?”
“We must discipline children while they are young; otherwise, if they turn bad, we’re the ones who lose face!” This was the first time Kaitlyn has seen Sidney get angry at her!
Sidney’s eyes narrowed; this woman must have said something to upset Aubree.
“What did you say to her?”
Kaitlyn suddenly laughed as she looked at his tense expression, “I only told her to ask you in person, what was the real reason you adopt her in the first place.”
“Other than that, nothing much.” She pursed her lips and feigned innocence.
When she said these words, a spark ignited an anger inside Sidney. He stared at Kaitlyn with piercing cold eyes. Were she not the daughter of the Marsh Family, he would definitely kill her on the spot.
“Why are you staring at me like that for? Did something I say offend you?” Growing up, Kaitlyn was spoiled beyond imagination; she never bothered to consider other people’s feelings.
“Don’t cause trouble, why fight with a kid?” Sidney controlled himself and slowly retracted his stare.
He headed upstairs and stood before Aubree’s bedroom; without a second thought, he casually opened the door.
When he walked in, he noticed that Aubree had just finished taking a shower and was still wrapped in a towel. There were still water droplets on her snow white skin, and her collarbone was quite attractive.
Aubree immediately turned red at the sight of Sidney. She pressed her lips, picked up her pajamas from her bed, and ran to hide in the bathroom.
Sidney was frozen in place for a while; he tried hard to prevent himself from recalling what he saw just now, but the more he tried, the longer the image remained in his memory.
“Uncle Sidney, you’re finally home.” Aubree said as she stood fully dressed before him. Normally, she would rush over to give him a hug, but with his girlfriend downstairs, she couldn’t do that.
“Hm, are you hungry, let’s go downstairs to eat.” Sidney was about to take Aubree’s hand, but she evaded his grasp.
“Uncle, I…” Aubree clasped her hands behind her back and constantly shifted her footing.
She mulled over Kaitlyn’s words by herself for a long time; it was like a radio that won’t turn off.
“Hm?” Sidney vaguely sensed a bad omen; then it suddenly hit him, and he knew what Aubree was going to ask.
“Uncle Sidney, why did you adopt me in the first place?” The second she asked, Aubree’s eyes turned watery, and she almost couldn’t hold back her tears.
