In the Hudson Group President’s office.
“Master Sidney, Robert is holding a press conference tomorrow. This exclusive interview of his will be broadcast nationwide.” Steward Martin placed a copy of Robert’s schedule on the desk. “It looks like it will be on air right after the news broadcasts too.”
Sidney put down his work on hand and picked up the schedule to take a glance.
“Master, we missed out on quite a few already; this is a golden opportunity, you–”
“Hm, I know.” Sidney said indifferently; he put the schedule down and resumed his work.
“Master… you’re going to have to do this sooner or later…” Steward Martin couldn’t hold it in anymore. In the past two months, Robert’s public image as an ideal man was closer and closer to perfection, and he gained wide popularity from his charities. During his lectures at various major campuses, Sidney received quite a few opportunities that he turned away.
This current opportunity truly was a golden opportunity…
Sidney’s hand froze in place; his fingers turned white from tightly gripping the pen, and veins popped out on his forehead. These were outward reflections of how he actually felt inside.
Of course he knew this was a rare opportunity, and he knew fully well that he had to do this sooner or later, but…
Sidney put his pen down, leaned back sternly, and shut his eyes. He mulled over for so long, but when it came down to it, he couldn’t bring himself to action.
“As tough as it is, you have to do it, so you don’t put your efforts to waste. You’ve been planning this since you were a kid.” No one noticed when Jacob entered. He didn’t have on his usual grin, and his expression looked grim.
Sidney could tell it was Jacob just from his voice; he said nothing and didn’t even open his eyes.
“I heard about Robert’s live broadcast.” Jacob sat on a sofa across from Sidney.
“Please talk some sense into him, Jacob; I’ll be waiting outside.” Steward Martin could tell that Jacob had other things in mind to talk to Sidney about, so he left them alone in private.
Jacob was in a foul mood. Although he wasn’t as close to Aubree as Sidney, but he still watched her grow up, from when she was just at his waist to the present beauty she was now.
Over the years, he had never missed out on any of Aubree’s birthdays. If anything ever happened to her, he would also protect her, like Sidney would.
“Sidney, I have a question I’ve been itching to ask you.” Jacob suddenly said.
Sidney slightly nodded, “Yes.”
“When you adopted her, you already had plans to kick her out someday. So why did you treat her so well all these years?”
This question was like a rain of arrows that came rushing out from nowhere, which instantly broke through Sidney’s line of defense!
He himself pondered this issue innumerable times. In the beginning, he gave excuses to deceive himself; he spoilt Aubree in order to exact revenge and see the look on the enemy’s faces.
But then eventually, little by little, he began to understand his own heart.
He spoilt her only because he wanted to; there was no other reason.
“Nothing I say now will change anything.” Jacob said with a sigh.
“You do what you gotta do. Once this is over, I will help you look over her.” Jacob walked over to Sidney’s desk. He knew Sidney was in a difficult position now, but he didn’t want Sidney to forget how much pain and trouble he went through just because of this one girl.
Other than Aubree, everyone familiar with Sidney knew how difficult his life was.
