Sidney sent her back to her bedroom, but Aubree pulled him back and wouldn’t let him go.
“Uncle Sidney, you’re not going to the office again, are you?”
“No.” Sidney said, giving her a reassuring look, “I’m not going if you won’t let me.”
“Okay.” Only then did Aubree release her hand with satisfaction.
Sidney was just about to walk away, but then suddenly stopped in his tracks. He turned back and looked at Aubree.
“Aubree, if one day you found out who your father was, would you go to him?”
Aubree didn’t even think about it and looked at his head worriedly, “I don’t have a father, and you’re all I have. Uncle Sidney, are you out of your mind from the crash?”
Sidney withdrew his gaze, “Go to sleep. Good night.”
Aubree watched his back in confusion as he left. She always thought he seemed odd, and the questions he asked were strange.
But she didn’t bother to think about it and drifted off to sleep before long.
Sidney’s bedroom, however, reeked of depression, and Sidney had a sleepless night.
The next day.
Aubree had been in a trance for the last few days. She didn’t care about the date. When she got a call from Riley during her morning meal with Sidney, she found out that the exam results were due today.
Riley hadn’t done very well in school and had made it clear to himself that the exams were meaningless to him. Because his mother would do everything she could to get him into A University anyway.
Aubree hung up the phone and suddenly became nervous.
Sidney could tell something was wrong. He asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
“Uncle Sidney, the results are out, but I’m afraid to check …,” Remembering how Pippa had screwed up her entrance exams, Aubree expected that her marks would never get her into A University.
Sidney gave Steward Martin a look, and he immediately understood.
“Eat first.” Sidney’s voice was a little hoarse because he hadn’t rested well.
Aubree grabbed the slices of bread with mixed emotions and shoved them into her mouth. All she could think of was the image of herself going to B University and then leaving the city. The more she thought about it, the sadder she felt.
“Master Sidney, I got it.” Steward Martin beamed with joy.
Aubree panicked for a moment. She dropped the bread in her hand on the table. For a moment, she didn’t dare to breathe aloud.
“Well?” Sidney asked.
“Congratulations,Miss Aubree. As far as the A University scoreline from previous years is concerned, you passed the line.”
Aubree was instantly delighted. She couldn’t believe it, but if what Steward Martin said was true, that was great!
“Did I go over the mark line by much?” Aubree looked at Steward Martin expectantly.
Steward Martin hesitated for a moment, “Stuck on the line.”
Aubree was stunned. The feeling of joy she had just felt dissipated. She had just gotten stuck on the scoreline, so that meant she wouldn’t get into A University …
She wanted to cry, and at that moment, she received a strange call.
“Aubree? How did you do in your exams? Is it B University or A University?” The gloating voice came from the other end of the line. Aubree didn’t understand who it was at first. But by the tone of her voice, she quickly guessed it was Pippa.
How could Pippa have her mobile number?
“I don’t know you very well. Please don’t call again.” Aubree didn’t even want to talk to her and just hung up. Especially at this moment, hearing her voice made her feel annoyed.
Seeing that Aubree’s mood was constantly low, Sidney reassured her, “Do you still believe me? I said you can go to A University, then you can.”
“Yes, Miss Aubree, you can definitely go.” Steward Martin also reassured her.
Aubree knew that Sidney was powerful, but she didn’t know that Sidney could help her even with things like going to university.
“Aubree, good girl, just eat.” Sidney called Everly over, “The milk’s cold. Change it to a hot one.”
“With me, there’s nothing you can’t have.” Sidney’s words sounded light but were actually quite firm.
With his words, Aubree really wasn’t worried about anything.
