“Why are you so careless?” Sydney carried her gently to the car, his tone sounded a bit reprimanding.
“Don’t go for the afternoon test.”
“How can I not take the exam?” Aubree was alarmed and said with an aggrieved tone, “I didn’t do it on purpose…”
“Go to the hospital.” Sydney ordered the driver, not giving her any chance to refute.
He didn’t talk to her once on the way to the hospital. Aubree kept glancing at him furtively, knowing that he was worried about her.
“Uncle Sydney, did you come back this morning?”
“I asked Everly to not tell you, but she still told you. It didn’t interfere with your work, did it?”
As his eyes fell on her swollen ankle, he didn’t want to talk to her anymore.
After arriving at the hospital, the doctors checked Aubree and took an X-ray. Thankfully, her condition was not bad; she had a sprain, but there was no broken bone. She was advised to go home and rest.
Aubree looked at the time; the exam was about to begin. She felt like all the hard work she had done for so many years was only for these exams. If she didn’t take this exam because of her injury, she would really regret it.
At first, Sydney was really angry at her, but then he couldn’t help give in to her soft whining and went to drop her to the exam room.
For two days, he personally picked and dropped her in his own car.
After her last exam ended, Aubree limped around to find the teacher who had taken her necklace, wanting to ask to return it.
But unexpectedly, the teacher only took out the bracelet.
“Your friend came and took the necklace, saying that your feet were injured.”
Aubree’s first thought was that Riley must have taken it. However, as she thought about it, it didn’t feel right. Riley didn’t even know that it was confiscated from her.
“Do you know her name?”
The teacher seemed to be in a hurry to leave, and just shook their head impatiently and said, “It was a girl. She was in the same examination room as you that day.”
The same examination room as her?
Could it be… Pippa?
But why would she take her necklace? It was a birthday gift from Riley. It was of no importance to her…
Later, when Aubree met Pippa outside the school gate, she dangled the necklace in front of Aubree and walked up to her.
That necklace was quite important to Aubree. After all, it had her name on it, she really liked it.
Since childhood, no one had ever snatched her things away from her. For the first time in her life, she felt what it was like to be robbed by others. She did not like that feeling at all; she wanted to take her thing back.
“That is mine! Give it back.” Aubree stretched out her hand, her palm wide open for Pippa to put the necklace on it.
“It should belong to me. I got it back just now.” Pippa deliberately wore it around her neck in front of Aubree.
Aubree couldn’t understand the meaning behind her actions, “It has my name written on it clearly, how is it yours?”
Pippa snorted and said mockingly, “Stop being delusional thinking everyone likes you!”
“You are not making any sense! Riley gave this to me as a birthday present. Go ask him if you don’t believe me!” Aubree became a little anxious. She suddenly felt a little uncomfortable and empty inside.
Pippa rolled her eyes at her.
Aubree’s eyes fell on Sidney’s car that was parked not far away from them. She had just fought with him a few days ago because of the necklace, and now he must be looking in her direction. After thinking about it, Aubree gave up.
“Forget it! I don’t want it.” Aubree felt like crying saying this. She obviously liked that necklace very much… But because Sydney didn’t like it, she had to let someone else have it.
