Sheila and Lily made their way to the agreed Cafe. When they entered the Cafe, Sheila easily spotted Fred. Although many years had passed after he left for abroad, the person before her had changed abit, maybe he changed physically but he was still the same.
He had his usual smile plastered on his face making his dimples appear.
Fred was ever the gentle and caring guy in Sheila’s eyes, it’s no wonder she was fond of him, mistaking it as a crush.
Fred was waving at Sheila, Indicating that he had spotted them.
He was sitting on their usual table near the door. That was the same table they used to sit some years back.
Holding Lily’s hand, Sheila made her way to Fred who was already on his toes, ready to give Sheila a hug.
Sheila was about to hug him back when a childish voice stopped her, ” Only lovers share hugs, beautiful sister, is he your boyfriend?” Lily asked, cocking her brow at Sheila.
Sheila felt awkward being questioned by the little girl but thinking about Lily’s words, they made sense. Hugs between the same gender were acceptable but only lovers could hug when it comes to the opposite gender.
With that, she stretched her hand and Fred awkwardly shook it.
Lily, who noted how uncomfortable the guy seemed after she foiled his plans of hugging her beautiful sister, could only smile inwardly.
She wasn’t David’s daughter for nothing. She knew how to use words to get to what she wanted.
” Oh, who is this beautiful girl with you Sheila? She’s one bright child.” Fred Inquired, a fake smile plastered on his face.
He felt like straggling her and snapping her neck into two but controlled himself, intending to know her identity and figure out a way to get rid of her in the future.
” I am Lilian Brown.” Lily introduced herself flawlessly.
” Who are you? My beautiful sister said you are her old friend.” Lily added deliberately using the word old to remind the guy that he was Sheila’s friend in the past.
Fred found the little girl’s words Infuriating but he had to control his dislike for her.
Tolerate. That’s what he would do today then he will make sure she doesn’t follow Sheila the next time they plan to meet.
” What a lovely name you got there.” Fred exclaimed then turning to Sheila, he asked.
” Whose child is she by the way? your neighbour’s?”
Sheila smiled awkwardly, she didn’t know what to go about answering nor did she want to tell the truth either.
” My beautiful sister is my godmother. She takes care of me and allows me to go everywhere with her.” Lily answered much to Sheila’s relief.
But wait? What godmother?
That was nothing but an invented story. She really liked the girl but was she qualified to be Lily’s godmother?
Definitely not. The two of them were from two different worlds but come to think of it, if things went well between her and that David guy, she would be Lily’s stepmother.
The Idea of having a daughter pleased her.
Lily could tell what was running through the young man’s head so how could she allow him to get rid of her so easily?
Besides, her beautiful sister seemed to be at a crossroad, not knowing what to say so she did her the favour of conjuring some believable lies for the young man.
She was hell-bent on making the meeting awkward for the Young. That will enable them to leave sooner and in that Way, her beautiful sister will be far away from those prying eyes.
” Yeah, she’s my goddaughter and mostly keeps me company.” Sheila seconded. She had to make Lily’s words look believable and how better than to echo Lily’s words.
The group of three ordered espresso and pastries while Lily got to be served juice.
Looking at the colourful drink in her glass, Lily frowned.
” I need one like yours beautiful sister.” Lily complained, pushing the glass away.
How could they treat her like a child?
” Eeer!!” Sheila was at loss for words on what to tell the little one.
” What we are drinking is called coffee and is very bitter. It also has something called caffeine that is bad for the growth of children your age.” Fred took the initiative to answer.
They were the same before, craving for coffee. That was until one day, Sheila’s mom told them that if they worked hard in school and became big people, only then could they drink adult stuff.
He wanted to use the same explanation to the little one but from the little time they spend with her, he could already tell such bullshit reason couldn’t satisfy her so he explained in details what Aunt Mason did not explain to them at that time.
” Oh,!” Lily obviously believed his reason, making Fred smile.
Actually, her father once told her the same thing but she didn’t believe him. She only thought that he was looking for a reason to have her drink milk saying that the black substance was harmful for her health.
Now that her father’s opponent gave her the same explanation, she could finally believe it.
The two friends chatted about their past and how life was at the moment.
“Have you talked to Vee? She would be glad to hear that you are back.” Sheila commented with a smile.
The three of them were the best of friends. She was sure Vee missed Fred as much as she missed him.
” Not really. I wanted to see you first. You know you’ll always be my priority.” Fred replied, smiling at Sheila.
Of Course Sheila saw the flirting smile on his face but shoved the thought back as overthinking.
After being friends for years, Fred never showed any interest in her , not even when she was crushing on him. He treated her just like how a brother treats her sister and she was thankful for that.
She hoped it would remain that way because she wasn’t in the mood to start dealing with another man interested in her.
