“Are you trying to invoke a spirit? If no, why then walk in the midst of them, speaking Latin?” I furiously ask Dominic.
“This issue shouldn’t bother you. You can leave with any werewolf of your choice but ensure you don’t leave with the two.”
My expression becomes simplified after I hear that. As I sprint forward to nudge Nora so we can go, Maxwell holds me back, his eyes screaming suspicion.
He whispers into my ears, “it’s a trap. The wolves have been dipped into strong Wolfsbane mixed with silver. You can lose your wolf power simply by touching any of the wolves. This Alpha is a gangster and knows his ways. I suggest you start moving now before it affects you and your wolf.”
Dominic chuckles as he speaks those words. Though Max’s voice came out as a whisper, Dominic could have heard all he said.
“It’s high time you found the kids, man. It’s gonna affect us both!” He screams as though we are distant from each other.
“It is simply a raise of voice.” He whispers loudly, after reading my expression at his high-pitched voice.
“I am trying to call for father. He will be here soon.” He reveals.
As anxiety clenches my chest, I rapidly remember that Maxwell is a seer and can see the future. Even though the power doesn’t work all times, but I can try it again now.
“Max. Help me confirm if father will appear here and what will happen if he doesn’t meet the kids? What about for these two silver wolves? What will happen to them?” I genuinely inquire.
“Just a few minutes please.” He says and I hold him tightly should he try to escape because he can’t see the future.
His eyes snap open and he begins to whisper into my ears again. This time, he presses his lips to my ears for better privacy.
“Father will appear. He will give your brother the go-ahead to mark your so-called mate. If he doesn’t see the kids, the other wolf, I think she’s silver, he’ll reduce her to a rogue.”
“Holy God!” I scream and Dominic is taken aback. His expression is mild for a second, before he chuckles softly.
“You can see that happen, right? We need the kids as a proof. And to clear the air so we don’t keep moving together, unsure of hating or loving each other.” He says.
“You said the power doesn’t always work. Why did it work this time around again? Did you deceive me?” I ask Max.
“It might not work when you need it most importantly. And, that’s not deception. If you want me to feed you lies, I can as well do that. Having trust issues will only make things more complex.” He says and those words make my head ache. I want to try to convince brother not to summon father. I thought he had died a long time ago, even.
Father is just a very powerful wolf and has a lot of powers given to him by the moon goddess. I blink my eyes twice, unsure of the next step to take.
“Will you find the kids or not?” He asks but suddenly, an evil smirk appears across my lips, a viable idea leaping into my mind.
“Let’s summon father first. He might have a greater advantage if he is the first to do that.” I inform Max and he nods his head to the great idea.
“Do you have any of his tools?”
“Tools? How?” I inquire but Max’s face begins to look strange. Different thoughts flood my mind suddenly, including thinking that he’s the father disguising as Max.
“Father? Is it you?” I ask Max sincerely but my voice comes out very loud so that Dominic is taken aback.
He whispers in return, “it is Max, but let’s pretend I’m your father. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll know what next to do.”
“Son, this is you, right? I am so going to kill you right now!” He screams as I go on my knees and tilt my head to see Dominic’s reaction. He stifles giggles, his hands akimbo as he watches us like though he’s watching drama.
I drag Max closer to him, quickly saying, “it didn’t work.”
“Leave. Your father is around. You might suffer heavy consequences for being a traitor.” He suddenly informs. My eyes snap open at the realization. He swiftly finds his way out of here and I run after him. I don’t want to leave a seer like him but as I almost reach him, my head hits a very strong something. I wince in pain, slowly lifting my head to avoid the obstacle. As I lift my head, I realize it’s father.
Damn. Father. With so strong chest?
“I need to catch up with a friend. We’ll return here. Promise.” I hastily say but his glowing eyes blind me from moving an inch. Some guards appear behind him, and lead me to where Dominic and the wolves are.
“Father!!” Dominic screams as he runs towards him for a hug. Father’s eyes turn deep red as he stabs Dominic with a silver sword. My eyes glare at that sight, but I can’t help it. The guards remain expressionless at the sight as Dominic begins to fall to the ground. I suppose father will come for me next so I decide to escape on time but rescuing Nora and Amanda is essential.
I can see the fury in his eyes. I can perceive his desire to use the silver sword on me. I simply nudge Nora and Amanda and they jerk back to reality, in their human form now. I hold their hands, trying to lead them out of this forest but father blocks us suddenly. We were a few meters away from him, how did he reach us suddenly? Father never revealed he’s a vampire. Well, now, I’m not sure he is but he might be.
I think moving with these unconscious ladies will make the journey more stressful but they jerk back to complete reverie, having found some clothes to put on. They confront father but I hold them back.
“You have no idea who he is. He’s a…” Father subtly darts at me before I say those words but I evade the attack. He rather lands his head on the wall, wincing in pain induced by that.
“You taught me well.” I grit my teeth, making jest of him failing to strike me well.
“What about Dominic? Where is he?” Nora asks but I roll my eyes at her, trying to show my disinterest about his safety.
I try to coin words together though to inform them about what had happened to him but I can’t find him on the floor anymore. Has his carcass been picked up and banished? Or stolen for unknown purposes? Only God knows. I shrug off the thoughts, since I don’t know how to coin the words.
“You’ll regret summoning me.” Father growls as he reaches out for me once more. I subtly slide behind him as Nora and Amanda begin to flee.
“Don’t tread that path! It leads to a deadend!” I scream and they turn back immediately, looking so confused.
I suddenly see an escape hole behind me but dad’s eyes illuminate wildly when he notices I have discovered that.
“Here! Now!!” I scream and both of them safety get out of the forest but father grabs hold of me after I move an inch.
He growls into my ears as he reveals his silver sword. My wrist shakes and I can’t find my voice. After I locate my voice though it’s shaking, I speak lowly, “father… please.”
He screams on top of the lungs as he attacks me with the silver sword but before it can reach my body, someone drags him away from me. From behind him. I can see the face. It’s Max, the seer.
I beckon to him to let’s quickly escape while father finds it difficult to rise up and continue to attack us. As we struggle to fit in to the hole and get out on time, father stabs Max with the silver sword and I am the only one available to escape. A hot tear rolls down my eyes as he drags him to his territory. I begin to run, searching for Nora and Amanda. I’m glad they both have their scents. I release my scent to the atmosphere so they can sniff it and track my location, before father catches up with us again.
