Here remains shallow and eerie. Just very quiet with no shadows of anyone approaching. After releasing my scent so the girls can catch up with me, I still can’t find them.
“Nora! Amanda!” I begin to scream their name, so they can hear me at least. As though the situation isn’t tough enough, it begins to pour and it soon becomes heavy.
To leave her on time, I have to wolf out but rain affects my wolf. It is said not to shift under the rain except you’re a silver wolf or you’re protected by an Alpha King, or someone that leads you to battle.
When I look back, I notice a sudden movement. Could it be Nora or Amanda? My heart begins to throb, even when I remember that my twin brother has been captured by father and I know what he is capable of doing. I mean father. I hope he survives it. Anyways, he invoked him. I never did. And he never asked for my opinion. He even did it to my detriment but the story changed.
“Dickhead!” Someone suddenly screams and I notice the feminine voice. My heart is filled with hope when a ray of light is pointed at my eyes as beads of water stream down my face.
“Didn’t you hear us calling you?!” They scream. Though I can hear those voices clearly but it seems afar off. I begin to walk towards the direction, hoping I will reach them on time before I am fully drenched and unable to move properly again.
As I reach the outskirts of the forest, I can’t find them yet. But, now, I hear the voice again. Closer to my ears now.
“Dickhead!” They scream.
I run towards the direction, quickly getting into the cab before I can say a word.
“You could have been captured by the stranger!” Nora let out an earsplitting scream. I try to calm her down so her voice could be lowered to a whisper but it only increases in pitch.
“What stranger?” I ask and look back. I see a lot of feral werewolves around the direction I just left. I am shocked by what I see, not knowing how much I should thank Nora for saving me. Those feral werewolves were the first to make a deal with dad, before he became an Alpha and began to show interest in vicious acts, as well as trying to murder mom at a time.
I breathe in and out, constantly reminding myself that I’ve been saved, and I’m safe.
“How did you guys get here? I was searching for you all over the forest.” I regain my energy now, to confront them.
“Didn’t you hear your new name? Dickhead. You’re a sure dickhead. Couldn’t you walk over to the direction you just left, knowing that we would wait for you there? Or a simple mind link? You’re… just keep quiet and let’s return home.”
“Watch your tongue, Nora. I am not going to take this. Do you know what it cost me to save you out of the mess you got yourself in?” I rant, but Amanda rolls her eyes at me.
“Oh, stupid loser. Don’t you know you could have lost your silver wolf power already?” I inquire.
“You shouldn’t be too loud about it. We can say this when we get home. Not every wolf should be an Alpha yet. Only those that can compose themselves should be.” She says. I hold my palms together, placing my jaw on them. Can I bear these insults till we reach home?
My wolf starts to get angry and my eyes illuminate the car and the neighborhood surrounding.
“Do the chills. The cops will come for us if they know there’s a wolf in the cab. I am unsure for the reason why the taxi driver is not scared of conveying a wolf to his destination.”
“Wolves.” The taxi driver corrects. “I am conveying werewolves, not a werewolf. When you meet with werewolves, you will know them.”
He parks after those words. Amanda simply raises her brows and sighs when she notices she has reached her destination. I think we all have.
Nora flips a few dollar notes to him and we get down, hurrying down the street.
“Just follow us. Don’t ask why.” Nora shushes me when I am just about to talk. After we reach Dominic’s pack, we walk straight to his room, ignoring the greetings from the werewolves who hissed at it.
“ALEXANDER, where are my kids?” This is her first question and I don’t even know why I didn’t remember that I lost them to the hands of strangers.
“They got them.” I clip.
“Who?” Amanda asks.
“The feral werewolves. Oh, both of you are working together now?”
“Do you have any suggestion of their whereabouts?” She asks again.
“Did you ever ask after Dominic’s safety?”
“Do you care anyway?” She rebuffs.
“At least, whom he fucked should care.” I say, earning a slap from her. I hold her hand after that, staring daggers at her.
“Next time you try that with me, I will deal the hell out of you.” I pose a threat but she responds with a mocking smirk.
“Empty head and empty threats are all you’ve got.” She says, prompting my wolf to a sudden action. What word is that? I grab her by the neck, and press her against the wall, looking at her with dangerous eyes while fuming as a sign that I might wolf out anytime soon.
“What did you say?” I angrily ask, determined to break my vow by hurting her. As I try to ask the question again, with which my action will follow, Dominic’s Beta breaks into the room. I suddenly release her from the tight grip, so no one records that. She drops to the ground and Amanda rushes to check up on her, so I am the only one left to attend to the beta.
“Help. Please! Dominic’s mind link is unreachable. He must have been captured with chains soaked in silver and wolfsbane. Can you help us coordinate the search for him please?” The beta asks. I chuckle softly, not at his words but for his ignorance.
“If I lay my hands on you…” I say and he bursts out of the room suddenly. I turn back to Nora and Amanda and my eyes widen in shock when I notice that they are no longer there. I rub my eyes thoroughly, trying to be sure of what I am seeing.
“And that was a trap.” A masculine voice speaks from the restroom. How did someone else get here so quickly? I suddenly start to hear sounds of pleasure coming from three different feminine voice. I hesitate no further as I hit the door of the restroom.
It doesn’t budge. The sounds don’t reduce in pitch. The pitch grows higher suddenly. With an angry wolf inside of m, I kick the door open and it falls to the ground.
“Nora!” I scream, running out of her presence to avoid hurting her. I feel she’s running behind me for some explanation which I am not ready to listen to but after a few minutes, no one comes after me.
“Why this sudden eerie feeling?” I ask myself and someone suddenly taps me.
“Were you in your mind link? We’ve been calling you.” Nora says, seated comfortably in bed while Amanda helps her in the kitchen.
“Nora?” I slowly call, rubbing my eyes. Was that a trance?
“What about Dominic?” I ask, my voice coming out shakily. “What about the kids, Jack, Jake?”
“No worries. We have sent a few warriors after them. They should get back to us as to what had happened to both of them. Very soon.” She responds.
“T-They don’t know their location, how can they find them?” I ask.
“They’re experienced. Let’s expect them.”
“What if the reports turn out negative?” I inquire, slowly now because of the change in her facial expression.
She sprints towards me, almost delivering a stinging slap to my face but I hold her hand.
“Is this truly Nora?” I slowly whisper, inspecting her arms. Though her face looks exactly like Nora’s, her hands do not. I have lived with Nora for decades. She suddenly detaches her arms from my hold. I raise my brow at that as she removes the mask.
Still, I don’t recognize her.
“It is Harley. Harley Donovan, your twin brother’s pack mate.” She reveals.
