Credence pushed his wheelchair directly towards the designated smoking room. Marvin was already standing inside, patiently smoking a cigarette as he waited for him.
From the solemn look on his face, it was obvious the test results weren’t good.
Credence’s heart sank as he pushed his wheelchair into the room. He closed his eyes before quickly opening them again. His breathing was quick, and his mind was in a mess. “Marvin, show me the report.”
Marvin nodded. As he handed over the documents in his hand, he sighed and said, “Credence, I had a look. Mr. Sherman and Madam Chilton’s bones aren’t a match for Belle’s. Mr. Sherman is two points off, but Madam Chilton’s isn’t compatible at all.”
He thought that after confirming the identity of Dorothy’s parents, they would be a better chance of curing Belle’s terminal illness. However, Yezoo and Ysabelle’s bones weren’t a match at all.
What terrible luck they had.
On the other side of the room, Credence, who was sitting steadily in his wheelchair, had already taken the report. He gripped it tightly, and almost crushed it into pieces.
He didn’t bother to look at the full report, he simply turned to the last page to read the conclusion.
After reading it, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his heart. The last two lines of words were deep and stagnant, and he felt immense pain as he breathed. “Let’s not tell Dorothy about the results for the time being.”
“Credence, you won’t be able to hide it for long. Sooner or later, she will find out.”
Marvin glanced at his stiff face. After thinking for a while, he said, “Mr. Sherman and Madam Chilton’s may not be a match. What about Jeremy? He is Dorothy’s brother. Maybe his bone marrow will be compatible with Belle’s?”
Credence tapped his cigarette. “Jeremy hates me and my father. I don’t think he’d be willing to help.”
Marvin frowned. “Life is the most important thing there is. Jeremy couldn’t be so cold-blooded and ruthless, could he?”
“Belle is indeed Jeremy’s niece, but she is still my daughter. She’s a member of the Scott family.” Credence sneered. “Based on my understanding of Jeremy, I’m likely to pay a considerable price if I want him to take a bone marrow test.”
Marvin understood. This was indeed Jeremy’s way of doing things.
After pausing for a few seconds, he sighed and asked, “So, what should we do?”
“It’s simple. We will give him whatever he wants.”
Credence raised his slender fingers to remove the cigarette butt in his mouth. His eyes turned cold. “Marvin, call Jeremy and ask when he will be free for a sit down to discuss this.” Jeremy, the man who attempted to kill him several times, was now one of his last remaining options.
“Alright, I will call him right away.”
Marvin took out his mobile phone from his pocket. When he looked down and was about to dial, Credence suddenly placed his hand over the phone and smiled coldly. “Forget it, I will call him myself.”
“Credence, if you call him personally, he might ask for a lot right away.” Marvin frowned.
He had dealt with Jeremy twice before during his anti-drug missions.
Everyone knew that Jeremy was the big shot behind the scenes, but they couldn’t find any evidence of his involvement. He had done everything flawlessly.
Moreover, Jeremy was a man who didn’t even acknowledge his own parents. His hands were stained with blood from countless victims. In his eyes, a human’s life was worth less than an ant’s.
He had just recently learned that he had a niece, Belle. For all they knew, he might treat her just the same, like an ant.
Besides, Jeremy hated Sheldon and Credence to his very core. Why would he be willing to trade his bone marrow for Belle’s life?
Marvin, who had always been tough and unyielding, now bore a heavy heart. He parted his lips and wanted to say something to persuade Credence, but chose to remain silent.
He knew that once Credence had made up his mind, there was no going back.
In this case, they could only take things one step at a time.
“Credence, be careful. Jeremy is not a kind-hearted man.” Marvin reminded him.
Credence shook his head, his gaze was cold and stern. “He does not have the strength to attack me directly in Talco City, not yet, but…”
Marvin asked, “But what?”
“Nothing.” Credence looked absent-minded for a while. He turned the wheels of his wheelchair with both his hands, moved towards the door, and said in a deep voice, “Marvin, gather some people who can fight and assign them to me. Once Benjamin books a room, I’ll send you the address. Arrange for someone to check the place out.”
It wouldn’t hurt to play it safe.
Given Jeremy’s cruel and inhuman methods, he had to be extra careful.
“Don’t worry about it.” Marvin understood Credence’s plan. He pointed at the phone in his hand and said, “After you send me the address, I will bring them there personally.”
Upon hearing that, Credence raised his eyebrows in surprise and asked, “Don’t you and your troops have anything else to do?”
“Originally, we had some business to attend to, but now that everyone in the army knows that I’ve just been through a breakup, I might as well take a break.” With a bitter laugh, Marvin squeezed his temples. There wasn’t a hint of sadness on his face.
“What’s the use of being with a diva like her anyway?”
Credence steadied his wheelchair and looked over. He snorted coldly and said, “There are plenty of female nurses in Jonathan’s hospital. Once we’re done with Belle’s illness, ask him to take you to his hospital. You’ll forget about that doctor soon enough.”
Marvin couldn’t help laughing. “Credence, I didn’t expect you to be such a joker. Alright, let’s get down to business. I have some preparations to make on my side.”
Credence slowly nodded and pushed the wheelchair out.
Along the way, he found an empty ward and moved inside. Then he called Jeremy.
…
In the president’s office of the Sherman Group, Jeremy had just finished dealing with another dodgy transaction. He leaned lazily against his big executive chair, as he rubbed his temples and rested his eyes. Then, his cell phone rang.
He took it out and glanced at it. He noticed that it was from Credence. A sinister smile flashed across his dark eyes. It was terrifying, gloomy, and filled with rage. No one could tell what he was really thinking.
He smiled maliciously with a look of interest, like a predator hunting its prey. He answered the call.
“Mr. Scott, what can I do for you?”
“What? Does the president of the Scott Group need my help?”
“Will you do a test to see if your bone marrow is a match for Belle’s?”
After listening to Credence’s request, Jeremy immediately smiled and raised his legs with great interest. He placed them on the desk and smiled sinisterly. “Alright! I’m in a good mood today. It’s not beyond me to do something charitable once in a while. However, Mr. Scott, what are you offering me?”
