“What?”
Credence lowered his head and stared at her worried face. His eyes were deep as he pondered and said, “I can’t say how confident I am right now, but as long as there’s hope, even if it’s a one in ten-thousandth of a chance, I will do my best to save Belle.”
“Honey, don’t worry. Your parents have already been tested to see if they are a match. The results will be out in three hours.”
His tone was firm and powerful, it was filled with determination.
Dorothy’s eyes were red, and her heart was aching. She shook her head and had a wry smile on her face. “But, I’m scared, what should we do if their bone marrows aren’t a match?”
“If theirs aren’t a match, there’s still Jeremy.”
Credence’s big hands gently Dorothy’s slender hands. His warm breath enveloped her fingers, and his expression was grave. “Jonathan is also using all of his connections to find a donor for Belle. There are so many people in the world, we’ll definitely find one.”
“But…” Dorothy frowned and sighed. “There isn’t much time left for Belle. She has less than three months to live. I don’t know why, but all these horrible thoughts keep burning inside me. It feels like we won’t be able to find a donor so easily.”
She had a feeling that something bad was about to happen.
However, she was completely perplexed and had no idea what it was at all.
“Don’t think too much. Belle is our precious daughter. I will save her, no matter what.”
Credence gently lifted Dorothy’s chin. The light in his eyes dimmed. “Honey, I am your man. I will protect you to the very end! If there’s anything on your mind, don’t keep it to yourself. Just tell me!”
“The only thing I’m worried about is Belle’s well-being.”
Dorothy silently grabbed his wrist, she didn’t understand why she felt a growing panic within her.
She clutched her hands tightly, fear welled up in her eyes, her lips trembled as she pleaded, “Credence, I’m begging you, you have to save Belle’s life. I can’t lose her. I  can’t imagine it if anything happened to Belle… How am I supposed to live without her?!”
Back then, after she was released from prison, she was on the verge of despair. Fortunately, she was still pregnant with Belle. Belle had accompanied her throughout those painful and humiliating days.
So, to her, not only was Belle her beloved daughter, she was also her spiritual support. She was someone who could help her survive through tough times.
Upon hearing this, Credence’s pitch-black pupils trembled violently, and a sharp pain flashed through his eyes. He turned around and pulled her slender body over. He avoided her bulging belly and gently held her in his arms. He then solemnly said, “Honey, don’t be afraid! I promise you that I will do everything I can to save Belle’s life, even if it means sacrificing my own.”
He was a proud man with unparalleled power and status, yet he was promising Dorothy his life. Every word from his mouth was spoken with determination…
Any woman would be thrilled at such a scene.
Dorothy had always loved him.
She was incredibly touched by his words. Her eyes trembled as she stared at him, tears welled up in her eyes. “Credence, I only want Belle to be healthy. I don’t want your life in exchange for hers. I’m a greedy person, I want both of you to live.”
Her breathing was slow and careful. Her warm breath landed on Credence’s neck. This kind of thing almost made him give in to his desires, to take her right there and then.
Faced with his beloved wife’s soft gestures, he, much less anyone else, could hold back their impulsive desires. He hadn’t been intimate with her for more than 6 months now.
Ever since she got pregnant, certain parts of her body had obviously gotten more voluptuous and seductive. Her waist looked much more slender and her hips were more prominent too. Her body was shaped like a luscious peach, she seemed so juicy.
For Credence, every hug was like a sweet torture.
But he would not act on them. He wouldn’t do that to his wife during such a critical time, with their daughter’s life at risk.
Credence took a deep breath and forced himself back with great difficulty. He positioned his chest, waist, and abdomen close to Dorothy and looked at her. His face was serious but also joyful. He was completely immersed in the happiness he felt. He felt loved.
This time, she finally told him her real feelings.
It turned out that he was still as important as ever in her heart.
After thinking about it for a while, he lowered his head and looked at her reddish eyes. He gently kissed her…
He had hurt her so many times. The pain he had inflicted on her was always incrementally worse than the last. Her mind and body were thoroughly in pain, yet she was still willing to love him unconditionally.
She was such a kind and innocent woman. Why was it that he only noticed how wonderful she was now?
Just as Credence’s kiss was becoming more affectionate, the phone in his pocket rang.
He frowned and withdrew from Dorothy’s red lips. He turned his head and answered the phone. He lowered his voice and said coldly, “Marvin, you’d better have a good reason for calling me.”
“Credence, the test results from Dorothy’s parents are out. It… doesn’t look very optimistic. I think it would be best for you to read it yourself.”
If it wasn’t very optimistic, then it was very likely not a match, wasn’t it?
Credence’s face stiffened, but when Dorothy looked over, he quickly recovered. He narrowed his eyes and said, “Okay, I got it, I will be there right away.”
Dorothy was still in a daze from the sudden passionate kiss. She didn’t come back to her senses even after a while, so she didn’t know who called him. She stared at him blankly and asked, “Who was that? Where are you going?”
She was already under a lot of pressure because of Belle’s illness. Credence had to hide the truth for now for the sake of her health. “Benjamin called, he said there were a lot of important documents that I needed to sign off on. He will be here in five minutes, I’ll meet him at the office on this floor.”
“Okay, you should go and finish your work.”
“Alright. I’ll be right back to be you after I’m done.”
Credence unlocked the wheels on his wheelchair, turned around, and quickly rolled towards the door.
Dorothy sat on the bed and watched as he rolled further and further away. Just as he opened the door and was about to go out, a thought flashed through her mind. , “It’s almost been three hours. Once you’re done with the company affairs, can you go and check on the test results?”
Credence turned around and looked at the expectant look in her eyes. He panicked but nodded in response. “Okay.”
After moving out of the ward, Credence’s handsome face darkened.
