Jonathan took the opportunity and immediately pushed his way towards Minnie. He helped her push the hospital bed along.
“Minnie, my friend is having a birthday party tomorrow, want to be my plus one and have some fun?”
“Let’s talk about it tomorrow. I have some things to do at home, I may not have time.”
Minnie lowered her head, she was slightly embarrassed.
Ever since she took 200, 000 dollars from Jonathan to repay her boyfriend’s debt, she still felt like she owed him for that favor.
She felt extremely guilty every time she saw Jonathan!
“That’s fine! We’ll wait until you have free time, my friend will celebrate his birthday any day that you’re free!”
“I, I haven’t decided yet.”
Marvin’s birthday was in June. It was now September.
He realized that he had become a tool for Jonathan in pursuing this girl.
As a good friend, Marvin carefully took a step back, blocking Chris’ way when he noticed that Chris was about to walk towards Minnie.
When Chris realized what had happened, Jonathan, Marvin, and the others had already left via the elevator.
Credence was lying motionless on the hospital bed with a cast plate on his legs. His feet were wrapped in several layers of white gauze and his face looked pale, as though he was dead.
His eyes, which were as deep as the open sea, burst open as he glanced at Marvin and Jonathan.
His thin, pale lips trembled as he spoke, “How is my wife?”
“Have you found a suitable bone marrow for Belle?”
The entire time, he never once asked about his own injuries. He was completely focused on Dorothy and Belle.
Marvin and Jonathan looked up at each other, and their eyes met. They didn’t know how to break the news to him.
They haven’t received any calls from Germaine, which meant that Dorothy was still in surgery.
As to his question about finding a matching bone marrow, it was a no.
Credence had just completed his operation. If they told him the whole truth, he would panic and find it hard to accept.
Jonathan was anxious. He had no time to flirt with Minnie now. He took a deep breath. “Credence, aren’t you concerned about your own legs? D*mn it man, your legs are broken. You were this close to becoming a disabled person. Did you know that?”
“As long as I know I’m alive, then it’s fine.” Credence’s eyes look resolute. His dark eyes swept across Jonathan and Marvin’s faces. He could tell that they were hiding something from him. A flash of pain surged from his eyes as he muttered in a low voice, “I can’t move right now, you must help me find a compatible bone marrow for Belle, I don’t want to disappoint Dorothy.”
“She’s suffered for an entire decade because of me. No more, no more!”
He would bear her pain for her for the rest of their lives.
Jonathan and Marvin both trembled at his words. They stared at Credence’s dejected face and felt a great pain within. It felt like a knife was being twisted into their hearts.
Marvin raised his eyebrows and sighed. “Credence, you’re right. As a man, no, as a successful man, it is only natural that you’d bear more responsibilities than others. Don’t worry about the bone marrow, leave that matter to us.”
Jonathan nodded solemnly. “Credence, Marv, and I will put all our focus on this, If we gather all our resources and connections, I’m sure we’ll find a match, just relax.”
Minnie was standing nearby. Even though she had no idea of what has happened to this handsome man on the bed, as an onlooker, she could tell that Credence really loved his wife.
He loved his wife more than he could ever imagine.
This was the first time she had seen such loyalty from a man with so much fame and fortune. She was shocked at this discovery.
She was very curious. Just what kind of outstanding woman could his wife be to have such a serious man like him, be so deeply in love with her.
She slowly looked away. Out of the corner of her eye, she absent-mindedly glanced over at Jonathan. She quietly stared at his thin and lean frame and was dazed for a moment.
She assumed that Jonathan, the frivolous playboy that he was, would have friends who were just like him. Joyful and liked to flirt with girls. She never expected him to be in the company of a man who was so loyal to love…
Perhaps, Jonathan wasn’t as bad as he seemed.
While Minnie was deep in thought, Jonathan noticed she had been staring at him. He slightly turned his head aside, tapped the bridge of his nose, and looked up. He struck an enigmatic pose as though he was gazing at the sky. “Minnie, have you come to realize just how handsome I am? Have you decided that I am the only man for you and that you now wish to marry me?”
Upon hearing this, Minnie immediately took back her initial impression of him. What she fool she must be to have thought better of him.
She clenched her fists and gnashed her teeth. “Mr. Stanton, you shouldn’t be so shameless.”
“If I can’t have you, then what good would shame do for me?”
Minnie was livid, her face screwed up in anger. She told herself to calm down and not to take anything he said seriously. However, when she looked up at Jonathan’s smiling face, her anger burned hotter still. “Jonathan, would it kill you to not flirt with for one day?”
After shouting at him, she left without expecting a response.
Jonathan quickly followed her. “Of course I’ll die if I stop flirting with you! It would be a most miserable death, it would be as bad as burning myself alive.”
“Go to hell!”
Minnie’s reaction was swift and explosive.
She grabbed a yellow mop from a janitor working in the corridor and threw it at Jonathan.
She was so angry that she wanted to smash Jonathan’s face. She didn’t care if she’d lose her job.
Jonathan was so focused on teasing Minnie. He was caught off guard against the sudden yellow mop in mid-air. Marvin, who was standing next to him, had quickly pulled Jonathan back, helping him narrowly avoid the mop.
Jonathan still had more to say, but Marvin kicked him away. He was in so much pain that he couldn’t stand up straight. As he was about to lie down, Marvin scolded him. “Can’t you read the room? Stop f*cking around! Did you even hear what Credence said?”
“What did he say?” Jonathan turned to look at Credence. He was still lying in the hospital with a dumbfounded look on his face.
“Credence said he wants to be discharged immediately. He wants to go to the hospital where Dorothy is. He’ll feel a lot better over there.
“What kind of a joke is that?” Jonathan refused without thinking. “No, absolutely not! Credence, you can’t use your legs. You are at serious risk of losing them if you even try!”
“As long as I’m not dead, then it’s fine by me!” Credence’s expression hardened as he removed his blanket. He was about to prop up his heavy body from the hospital bed.
Seeing this, Jonathan and Marvin quickly pushed him down to stop him from hurting himself.
Credence couldn’t muster much strength with his arms, but he deftly escaped their restraints. He wanted to get out of bed. His eyes surged with a passionate blaze of fire. He repeated in a hoarse voice, “Let me go. I want to be with her. I need to shoulder her pain. I want to be by her side!”
Upon listening to his painful cries, Marvin and Jonathan could no longer refuse. They both nodded in agreement.
After some well-coordinated arrangements, within the hour, Credence arrived at the hospital where Dorothy was staying.
Outside the operating room, Juelz and Germaine were standing on both sides of the door. Their hearts were heavy, neither of them was in the mood to talk.
Hearing the ruckus coming from the elevator, Juelz turned around to see who it was.
When he saw Marvin and Jonathan pushing Credence along in a wheelchair, his eyes starting turning red.
“Credence, you promised me that you’d take good care of her. I believed you! But just a few days later, she’s now in the emergency room… B*stard, is this how you take care of her?”
