Dorothy looked at Germaine and rushed over to her. Jeremy followed closely behind. A faint but sinister smile was on his face accompanied by a snow-white cigar in between his cold thin lips.
Dorothy burned with rage as she saw him. This man was the reason Credence was lying on the operating table in a coma. Her glare was as sharp as a beam of light that could pierce his skull. Every word she spoke was filled with so much rage and hatred, it seemed like her teeth would break.
“Jeremy! You murderer! Why are you here?”
Jeremy had been paying attention to Germaine this entire time. When he heard Dorothy’s angry outburst, he took the cigar from his mouth and his smile deepened. “I came to see Germaine. I figured I’d drop by to see if Credence had died yet at the same time. Besides, I didn’t do anything to Credence last night. I haven’t committed anything as serious as murder.”
Germaine had been focusing entirely on Dorothy and Belle. She hurried over from the ward and didn’t realize that Jeremy had been quietly following her. She turned around and saw him standing very close to her then laughed bitterly at him. “Jeremy, destroying me wasn’t enough, now you’re after Dory too? Don’t forget, you’re cousins. You’re both related by blood. If you actually end up killing Credence, what is Dory supposed to do?”
“As far as I know, Credence hasn’t done anything to rob you of your business, let alone your woman. Why would you do this to him?”
“Jeremy, I’ve known you for so many years, and you’d always either end up in fights, committing crimes, and/or murders. Are you mentally ill?”
“Germaine, Credence is here because he deliberately provoked Melanie. I had nothing to do with it.”
Seeing how aggressive Germaine was, Jeremy was slightly taken aback. He pondered if she had regained her feisty spirit. “However, I am indeed ill, and you’re the only cure that ails me.”
Juelz, who was crouched beside Belle, got angry when he heard Jeremy. He stood up and stared at him. “I was involved with you and Melanie’s plot against Credence. Are you actually denying the fact that you plotted to kill Credence last night?”
He took note of Belle and held himself back from getting violent, so as not to traumatize her. If Belle wasn’t here though, he would have rushed over and beat Jeremy close to death.
He was livid, and nearly forgot how much weaker he was compared to Jeremy. He would’ve been kicked away before either of his fists would reach him.
“If I really did it, then I would have admitted it. If I didn’t, it means I didn’t. There is no need to lie when you’re in my position.” Jeremy shrugged, but his eyes slowly sank down. “Juelz, you weren’t brave enough, so you ran away. It’s no wonder you keep losing to Credence when it comes to women! This was such a good opportunity, and you wasted it.”
Dorothy was still in shock, having learned that she and Jeremy were cousins. Although she had suspected it for some time, when Germaine straight up stated it as fact, she found it a little hard to accept.
It was the same when she had to accept the news that Leilani was her real mother. She was very confused, very resistant, and she wished it wasn’t true.
It wasn’t until Germaine gave her a gentle nudge that she came back to her senses. She knew Jeremy was trying to get a reaction out of her. Dorothy took a deep breath and calmly said. “Jeremy, don’t pin all the blame on Juelz. He told me that you were the one who brought him into it. You persuaded him to take part in your scheme. Besides, when Belle had a high fever last night, Juelz took care of her all night long. I’d advise you not to cause any more trouble. I can still recognize a liar when I see one.”
Jeremy glanced over at Dorothy and sneered. “Only a stupid woman like you would think of Juelz as a good person! It is such a shame that an entertainment genius like Leilani had to give gave birth to a stupid daughter like you. It is truly a shock that you are so much dumber than her. Besides, this quarrel is between Credence and me, so stay out of it!”
He then turned to look at Germaine. She firmly stuck her middle finger at him. He flashed his charming eyes and evil smiled at her. “Germaine, I have some urgent business to attend to, so please excuse me. By the way, please inform that flirt of a doctor, that if he dares to talk to you again, I will have him killed! I’d like to see him try.”
“F**k off! I can hook up with whoever I want. It’s none of your business. Jeremy, you’re insane!”
Germaine grabbed the bag full of food from the chair and threw it at him.
Jeremy stood in place and didn’t move away. He let the steaming buns hit his chest, and drop to the ground. He laughed. It was an extremely lazy laugh. “Germaine, it looks like you still care about me after all. I like it!”
He then walked away. As he walked past Belle, he looked down at her. The little girl raised her head and looked back at him. Her big blue eyes were followed by a sweet smile. “I know you! So you are not my Daddy, but my uncle. Are you nice like Daddy Juelz or my god mama?”
He looked at Belle’s big blue eyes, they were almost the same as Ysabelle’s, except they were so innocent looking. Jeremy was at a loss for words, and his cold heart softened for a moment. He nodded and left.
F*ck, Dorothy and Credence, he hated them, but this little girl was so adorable.
He was a man who had committed all kinds of evil. It was hard to say whether someone like him would ever be able to marry and have children of his own.
If God took pity on him and was willing to grant him an ordinary married life, he would marry Germaine and have a daughter just like Belle. This would be enough.
He feared that this would only remain a dream!
…
Five hours later, the heavy doors of the emergency room finally opened. Several doctors walked out, they looked tired and solemn.
Dorothy stood up and saw Credence lying on the bed, as he was carefully being pushed out by the nurses.
The first thing she saw was how white and clean the whole bed looked.
Credence’s sunken face was even whiter than the bedsheets. His chest was rising up and down slowly. He was alive.
She had been waiting anxiously for such a long time. Fortunately, he got out of the operating room alive.
Dorothy was worried that Belle would get frightened if she saw the grisly scene of the operating table. She had told Germaine and Juelz to take her back to her ward.
“Dory, I’ll take care of Belle. You, on the other hand, should take better care of yourself, you’re pregnant, don’t tire yourself out.”
Germaine knew that she was very worried about Credence, she simply nodded, took Belle’s hand, and walked away.
Juelz hesitated for a moment then turned to Dorothy. “Dory, if Credence wakes up, please tell him I’m sorry!”
If he wasn’t so selfish, Credence might not have gotten so seriously injured.
Dorothy did not turn around. She did not see the guilt and loss he had in his eyes. She simply nodded and followed the stretcher.
She was four months into her pregnancy and couldn’t walk very fast. She could only manage a slow but steady pace.
As Dorothy entered Credence’s ward, which Marvin had prepared, she found that it was opposite to hers. What a coincidence.
Credence was already lying on the hospital bed. His tall and slender body was still.
She moved her eyes up along his entire body, inch by inch. She did not know if it was an illusion, but amidst the light and shadows, she seemed to see the corners of his mouth curling up into a smile.
“Credence, are you awake? Stop pretending…”
Marvin pushed the door open and stepped in. He saw Dorothy standing in front of the bed, staring at Credence. She looked as though she had just realized something, either that or she was still completely kept in the dark.
He did not know how much she had heard. Marvin’s heart began to throb violently!
