Chapter 409 White Lies

Dorothy didn’t hear anything Marvin was saying. All of her attention was focused on Credence. Her eyes were red and tears were forming.
After a while, she looked up at the bright sky outside the window and smiled.
He was alive!
Thank goodness, he was all right!
Having heard the sound of steady footsteps behind her and Marvin’s serious voice, she turned around. She stared at the man who looked as tall as Credence in front of her and nodded. “Mr. Jules, please tell me what happened last night”
She believed that Juelz wasn’t involved, but she was doubtful about Jeremy. So she had to stay sharp and be extra careful.
Jeremy was a man whose hands were stained with unimaginable amounts of blood, yet he was still her cousin. This was very hard to believe.
Marvin didn’t speak right away. Instead, he carefully observed Dorothy. He realized that she didn’t hear anything he had said earlier, and felt relieved. He calmed himself down and tried to play it cool.
He cleared his throat then gave a brief description of the events from the night before. Hiding the fact that Credence was only pretending to be injured, he told her everything else.
“As a woman, I can understand why Melanie wants to fight him. But why does Jeremy continue to harass him? I’ve been thinking about it, but I just can’t seem to find a reason why.”
She thanked Marvin, before turning back to look at Credence’s closed eyes. She then asked. “Do you know why Jeremy keeps acting this way? I’ve seen his mother. I don’t see any similarities between her and my mother. I never imagined I would be related to Jeremy. This all sounds made up.”
“Actually, Credence and I haven’t a clue.”
Marvin glanced over at Credence on the bed. He was never good at telling lies. He looked back at Dorothy’s crystal-clear eyes, touched his nose, and said. “Jeremy has always wanted to kill Credence. I’ve arranged for someone to look into this. Once we find out, I’m certain that Credence will tell you everything, personally.”
Dorothy wasn’t certain that Credence would tell her the truth, but she didn’t want to make things difficult for Marvin either. She simply nodded. She figured since Credence was still unconscious from the anesthetics, he probably wouldn’t be waking up anytime soon. She decided to go back to her ward to rest for the time being.
She had been waiting for a very, very, long time. Now that the operation was a success, she felt incredibly tired and sleepy.
“Mr. Jules, please take care of things here. I feel tired, I think I should go back to my ward to rest.”
He said, “Alright, leave Credence to me!”
Dorothy turned around and was about to walk out when she heard a faint, but familiar voice. It was Credence’s voice. “Honey, don’t go!” They sounded rough and filled with pain.
These simple words were like heavy stones that weighed heavily on Dorothy’s heart,  anchoring her on the spot. She couldn’t move a muscle.
She clenched her fists until her palms hurt. She hid her emotions so well, no one could tell what she was thinking at that moment. Once the pain subsided, she responded with a simple “hmm”.
She was compelled to never show her weak side to Credence ever again. Because doing so would only set her up for another mess of painful disappointments from him.
However, she couldn’t allow herself to refuse him!
“Credence, since you are awake, I won’t take up your time here. I still have to interrogate Melanie. My father has ordered me to dig up as much information as we can from Melanie in the next two days. We plan to apprehend every single one of those drug dealers she is connected to in Jenciga in one fell swoop.”
“Go ahead!”
Credence had a fierce look in his eye. But he gave his orders calmly. “Marvin, if Melanie won’t talk, inject the newly developed virus into her body, see how long she’ll last.”
“Sure thing.”
Marvin was well aware of how lethal the virus was. He broke out into a cold sweat.
It didn’t matter whether it was a man or a woman, anyone who offended Credence would end up in a fate worse than death.
Up till now, Jeremy seemed to have the upper hand against Credence with his schemes. But this was only because Credence allowed it, as he wanted to investigate Jeremy’s relationship with Ysabelle.
As Marvin left, he closed the door behind him, leaving Dorothy alone with Credence. His eyes were filled with passion as he gazed at her. The room felt very intimate for a moment.
Dorothy took a deep breath and avoided his gaze. She slowly walked to his bedside. Peering down at him she asked, “Credence, so much has happened, don’t you think it’s time for you to explain to me what’s going on?”
“Yes, of course. I have to.”
The man chuckled. As Dorothy touched the white quilt resting on his chest, he swiftly grabbed her slender wrist. Using a little bit of strength, he gently pulled her into his embrace.
Dorothy was pulled into his arms and was tightly held against his strong, muscular body.
She panicked. She was worried about the child in her womb and was careful not to be too rough in pushing him back.
When she broke free, her hand accidentally swept over his groin, and all the nerves in her body tensed up. She could feel his breath on her smooth forehead. “My dear wife, there are so many things I want to tell you. It’ll take several days to tell you everything. How about this? Come on to my bed and rest with me now. When you wake up, I’ll tell you everything you want to know, including how much I love you. What do you say?”
Dorothy kept her lips sealed while avoiding his burning gaze. “Credence, let me go! Let me go! Why would I want to hear what you have to say? I just want to hear the truth, the whole truth.”
“The truth is, I love you! I will love only you for the rest of my life, I won’t love anyone else!”
Credence was wrapped in white bandages. He looked like he was seriously injured, but that really wasn’t the case.
His injuries managed to look very convincing thanks to Jonathan and Marvin.
He had worked in the corporate world for a very long time, and he wasn’t an honest man. If he were to successfully win over the woman he loved, he would still need to tell the odd white lie every once in a while.
Suddenly his eyes fell upon Dorothy’s red lips. They were very close to his chest.
He could no longer control the surging desire in his heart. He clutched her chin and kissed her lips which parted in surprise.
“Ah!”
Before she could scream out, Credence gripped her body tightly.
Using just enough force, he lifted up the hem of her skirt and moved his hands along her smooth thighs. He continued upwards, getting closer and closer, inch by inch!
